View Full Version : Question: How to correctly categorize transactions?
There are some transactions, that are in no Category. I want to change them to like 'Gas' or 'Groceries'. How do I do this in a manner, that they do get reflected in the rest of the charts?
Thanks.

Do you mean so it shows in Spending Trends? I believe that there's some buggy issues that aren't properly updating the categorization changes:(
No, I actually was reffering to "Transactions".
If I am able to correctly 'categorize' transactions under proper category, then they should reflect properly in the "Spending Trends".
I see a lot of transactions from my credit card that belong to "No Category". Whereas, just by looking at the name, I can tell if they are grocery or Gas or shopping.
It would be great if I can do this. We can do in Quicken, and its a great feature. I would love it if we can do it in MINT.
Thanks.

On the "Transactions" page...
1. Put a check next to the transaction(s) you want to recategorize.
2. Click on the categorize button.
3. The screen will present you with a number of options.
If you don't see a category that is supported, I would recommend using similar steps to "label" the transactions.

i am having this problem. all of the items that i categorized under "cash and atm" and "check" appear under spending trends under "no category". it accounts for %41 of my total spending so it really throws off the picture for me. is this a bug that is currently being addressed? can we expect a solution soon?

Hi Damon,
I assume this issue must have been fixed by now, but I'm also running into this problem.
I did the following:
1) Search for a vendor
2) Click on the column header checkbox to select all items
3) Click "Categorize"
4) Click the category
5) Click the round "X" image to close the category window
The new category shows up on all the items, but when I browse away and back to the list, they're back to "No Category".
Is there a "Save" button I'm missing somewhere?
I tried Safari 3.0.4 and Firefox 2.0.0.11 on Mac OS X 10.5.1.

Hello, I'm having the same issue.

I'm having the same issues as some others. Recategorization does not work. I think the user interface on the whole recategorize screen is a little clunky. I have to check the "Always apply rule" box and then click the link of the category. After that I have to make sure not to mouseover any other links or it changes the category to that item. There's also no Save button, just the close window "X".
Is this a Mac problem? I'm using Safari with the latest Leopard build.
