View Full Version : In Planning: Separate rollover from month budget

In the planning page, for Budgeted Expenses (though I guess this would be useful for income as well), it would be great to be able to see how much of the budget is added because of rollover.
Instead of
$xxx left of $3000
it would be more helpful to see (IMO)
$xxx left of $3000 ($2100 w/o rollover)
That way if I update my budget for that month I don't go over what I am supposed to spending (in this example, the amount would be 2100)
Having a section to see all the roll overs for each category would be great, but that is something else.

So, I'm in a different bind. I have various savings funds set up to plan for known, long term expenses (I set aside money for gifts for the holidays, vacations, future car purchases, etc.) and the rollover budget makes all the sense in the world from this perspective.
But I started these funds back in March, when the rollover budget wasn't a thing one could do, and it appears that if I set up a rollover budget in March now, it will automatically move it to October (today). So in spite of the fact that I have set that money aside and used $0 of the budget line item that funds those funds, Mint still wants to say that I only have October's budget available to make these large purchases.
Any way to go back and update the march budget so that rollover can be recognized from then?

Ryan, to my knowledge, there is no way to go back to that. (In other words, the rollover is not retroactive). I've seen a few others request that feature on the forums though.

I have to agree with BluePhoenix. There are many budget lines that I want to include a rollover, but I don't always want to use the leftover. Electricity for instance - say I budget $50. It is great knowing that if I go over budget that I can use my rollover, but if I use less electricity by conserving I want to be able to see that and pat myself on the back. Showing both "rollover amount left" and "actual monthly budget" would be very nice.
