I've seen a few similar posts about this topic, most of which refer to shoeboxed.com, and it would be nice if mint.com could tie in with them somehow, but I will state my ideal vision of this topic anyway.

I think it would be wonderful to have the ability to upload images of scanned or photographed receipts to mint.com. A user could then manually tie their receipts to their transactions, so that they have a digital record of the receipt, as well as a reassurance that they truly made the purchase.

Additionally, Mint.com could use some form of Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology to recognize the text on the receipt. If the text does not match properly, then a mint.com user could manually edit the relevant text on the receipt (price of transaction, and keywords).

Mint.com could then search for transactions that match the text and price listed on the receipt with a transaction on mint.com. If no transactions are found, the receipt could then be manually tied to a transaction. There would be an option to verify every automatic receipt tying, so that it wouldn't match them to the wrong transactions.

Perhaps the receipt was uploaded before the coinciding transaction was processed. In that case, I think it would be neat if the receipt would just wait for each transaction to come through, and attempt to find one that matches it's text.

One final thought: perhaps a mint.com user does not own a digital camera, or a scanner. These users could manually type price and keywords to a transaction, and later tie these "receipts" to their transactions. The overall goal being personal verification that they made the transaction that is being reported.
