I have been using Mint for about a year now and I would like to request a feature for the budget section which takes into consideration the mismatch between actual cash expenditures and when these expenditures should be applied to budgets.

It seems that certain users are having issues with (1) bulk payments (e.g., yearly, semi-annual installments) or (2) delayed posting of cash transactions (e.g., payment for utility bills which hit the bank on 7/1 but they were actually for the month of June).

I know that users can change the transaction date but I would like to keep this useful data point. Instead can we have two additional "adjustment" entries for accrual accounting purposes? (a) what budgeted month that the transaction should be applied to and (b) duration

Here are specific examples and solutions for the 2 problem mentioned above:

(i) Bulk payments - prepaid insurance premium: spreading a semi-annual $1,000 payment made on June 1, 2009 across the next 6 months:
Adjustment (a) - budgeted month starts in June 1, 2009
Adjustment (b) - duration 6 months (until November 30, 2009)

(ii) Bulk payments - vacation expenses: spreading expenses for trip over 12 months for a trip taken over Memorial day weekend
Adjustment (a) - budgeted month starts in May 2009
Adjustment (b) - duration is 12 months

(iii) Delayed postings - payment of 2 months of cable bills (one is for the previous months assuming 30 days past due and one is for the current month). payment made June 1, 2009 for months May and June
Adjustment (a) - budgeted month starts in May 2009
Adjustment (b) - duration is 2 months

Also, along with this adjustment, it would be really helpful to have the slide bar for the time in the "Trends" section for the "Budget" section which should address the "envelope"-type concerns.

Thanks!
