View Full Version : Viewing "Trace" items under Merchant

For my bank at least under Merchant when viewing transactions there are a bunch of "Trace" entries. These all appear to be written out checks...

Is there something I can do to have Mint categorize those transaction items better? I don't mind renaming those items but my bank already has it setup as my example below.

ex:
Description: Check #0000 - Trace# 0000000000
Category/Misc: scanned image of cashed check

I understand automating this may be difficult especially of written checks and possible different ways individual banks catergorize and describe transactions but this would be very helpful for my use of Mint.

Thanks,
Brian

Does just changing the category and saving it as a rule to always categorize those items not solve the issue?

Maybe going into a little more detail would be helpful... what specifically do you mean when you say "better"?

Thank you for your reply mlebarron.

I have already added the rule to take care of the category (which works well) but that doesn't address the other issue I mentioned.
I would define a "better" way to describe/categorize check transactions as:

Merchant column - having who the check was made out to instead of just "Trace". Even better a link which displays an image of the cashed check itself (my bank already does this)

Category column - already addressed by making rule to automatically save as "Check"

Amount and Date columns - fine as is

Not sure how else to descibe what I mean.
Basically it comes down to Mint handling all the transactions quite well (IME) with the lone exception of naming/detailing check transactions.
I do understand I may be oversimplfying what has to happen on the back end for these type changes to take place but non-the-less I figured I'd mention my issue while using Mint.

I apprecaite your time and opinion.
