This is an open thread. Can you folks tell me the Top 5 things you would like to change? While I can't guarantee a change, I can guarantee that all feedback will be considered by the appropriate folks in the organization.

Non members can leave comments in the forums with:
mintfeeedback (username)
feedback (password)

To make things easy, I would recommend leaving the feature (transactions, for example) with your comments after it. Something like...

Transactions:
Alerts:
Accounts:

1. Custom categories
2. Quick Update All Button (or automatic update) on overview page
3. My transactions have details, at least they are shown on the alt text on the transaction. It'd be nice if you could click the transaction and see all the details.
4. With spending trends... when you click on the pie chart to show the breakdowns of spending... it'd be nice of on the right hand side, by the "Your Favorites" thing, the latest 5 or so transactions for THAT category are displayed. So each time you click a different category it shows transactions for that cat.
5. Can you give me free money? Haha jk. Thinking about this one.

Only if you can send me free money first:) I do take PayPal;-)

In priority order:

Accounts: Resolve connection issues so that I can add all of my credit cards. I'm sure this the toughest part of developing Mint because you're dealing with third parties, and I'm sure you're working very hard on it, but it really is the most important thing. If I can't include all of my accounts, all of the other great features are moot.
Transactions: Split one transaction between two categories. Saw some posts about this so I know it's on your radar. It's a biggie.
Transactions: Click the name (or maybe a pencil icon next to the magnifying glass) to rename. Click the category (or an icon) to recategorize.
Alerts: Being able to set low balance and credit limit warnings on a per-account basis. My family checking account needs to stay above $500 because my bank pays a higher interest rate on the first $500, and most of my bills are paid out of the account. I also have a personal "slush fund" checking account. The balance in that account only needs to stay above $5.
Overview: Editable account nick names. I was really impressed that the nick names for my accounts that I'd established on my bank's online banking came through to Mint. But it would be nice to be able to edit them (especially for accounts that I can't nick name through the institution's website). It would be nice to be able to edit the bank/credit card name too. (I have two Discover cards.)

...And a bonus pie-in-the-sky idea: Along with inline editing of categories, it would be nice if the most likely categories were listed first. Safeway would automatically be categorized as Groceries; click it and it would list Gas/Fuel next (although ideally the system might be able to figure that out from the location?). There could even be a color coding or some other indicator of how sure the system is about its auto-categorization. It would show that it's pretty sure that Vonage should be categorized as Phone, but less sure that Target should be categorized as shopping (since it could also be groceries, pharmacy, etc.), and 100% sure if the transaction was re-categorized manually.

Agree on all points. Specifically #3 and #5

1) Transactions: Splits
2) Transactions: Custom Categories
3) Transactions: Memorized Splits (paychecks, ATM fee, mortgage)
4) Transactions: Manual Entries
5) Transactions: Annualized option (option to mark 6-month insurance payment to spread over 6 months for "monthly spending" report so it doesn't look like you're over-budget just because you made your semi-annual pmt that month)

1) Transactions: split transactions between categories
2) Transactions: Custom Categories
3) Spending Trends: The pie chart should allow drilling down from categories to transactions that make up the total for that category
4) Transactions: Allow manually entering transactions
5) Transactions: Improve Categorize and Rename functions in transactions tab. UI is not clear, especially when you want to make permanent changes between a merchant and a category or merchant name and display name. While you're at it, fix the logic you use for deciding the display name for a merchant. I get some pretty bizarre results (like "T" for "T MOBILE USA" or "Fred" for "FRED MEYER" (a store))

Split transactions between multiple categories. I.E. purchase at Target | 20% = clothes | 30% = Items for the home | 50% = Entertainment. Without this my spending trends will never be accurate.

Budgeting with good reports... Ability to create month end, monthly to date, quarterly, or yearly reports against amounts assigned to each category.

Reconciliation process where I can indicate that I understand what a transaction was for. With multiple people in my family using our accounts, sometimes I need to review some expenditures with others before I reconcile them to make sure I'm classifying them correctly. And of course the ability to indicate each transaction as legit as I've needed to call my bank many times to dispute an oddball charge.

Linking Transfers between accounts somehow. Being able to indicate that a $200 payment from my checking account links to the $200 deposit within my Credit Card Account.

Bill tracking for more then just the credit card bills in my accounts. Looking for ability to enter in Utilities bills, Mortgage Payments, or other Loan payments. Then being able to reconcile (link) my transactions to specific bills when they come through with history reports on previous bill's payed.

And I also totally agree with these from above:

Set alerts per-account basis
Custom Categories
Editable account nick names
Update All Accounts Button

Thanks for the great work so far!

1. Category Splits
2. Clickable Icons for renaming & re-categorizing
3. Recognition of annualized & one-time payments (would make spending data more accurate)
4. Per Account Alerts
5. SMS interface - enter transactions, check account balances and current month category/budget spending via SMS Alerts

FYI on #5: Clearcheckbook has does a very good job of this . . . maybe you could look to them for ideas on implementation

1. Parse debit card transactions from University of Michigan Credit Union Visa check card correctly. Currently, every transaction made with that card simply appears as a "Check" transaction.
2. Improve the parsing of transactions in general, a ticket purchase on Ticketmaster was categorized as a home improvement.
3. Fix problems adding Citibank and Chase credit cards.
4. Add support for car loans, student loans etc.
5. Allow per account alerts to be specified instead of a general alert.

Chase should be better today. Please try again later (there's a few residual issues...).

Transaction information will most certainly get better. For now, I can only recommend that folks recategorize/rename:(

Thank you so much for making Mint and letting me use the beta! I've been dreaming for years now of a great online budgeting/money tracking solution that my wife and I can both use. You're very close. Here are my suggestions:

1) Transaction Splits - Absolutely necessary for accurately tracking our spending.

2) Budgeting - I need an online tool that can help us set and monitor a budget. Seems like the spending trends area could really be worked into a good solution for that. There are some good suggestions here about a budget: http://forums.mint.com/showthread.php?t=681

3) Custom transaction categories - Ability to add to and delete from the default list.

4) Better way to edit transaction names and categories than scrolling all the way to the top or bottom of the list. Like how a magnify glass appears now when you roll over a transaction, perhaps there could be a little pencil or some icon to let you edit the transaction name and category preferably in line. I love the way 37signal's Basecamp and Backpack programs work for entering and editing data.

5) Import data from other programs (especially Quicken). It would be nice to be able to monitor our spending with more history.

I could make some other suggestions, but if the my first 3 here were to be taken care of I may never have to launch Quicken again. That would be wonderful!

I'd like to add my IRA's to the mix. JPMorganfunds is not yet registered and while you have the general category "investments", you don't as of yet feature IRA's, 401k, etc.

Add utility providers and insurance companies

Read the entire account history of what my bank makes available, not only back to a random date a page and half into my account history

I would like a way to hide or remove an individual account. Let me clarify, I had two Amex accounts, one is now inactive but is still being listed by Amex, I no longer want to see this account but it comes in automatically as you bring in the account info.

Add custom categories when the categories Mint has featured do not meet my needs

I really like the idea, UI, and the execution of your web product, but I am unable to use it because none of my financial institutions will connect with your site. I concur with others that an option to upload .csv, quicken, ms money data files needs to be available. I completely understand your desire for an "it just works" environment, but it seems likes there's an imbalance between ease of use and functionality. You have sacrificed to much functionality for extreme ease of use. You must have the framework already in place to import this kind of data, is that not something that could be rolled out as a secondary option in the GUI when automatic data import fails? This should be #1 I believe, even to the detriment of getting more banks automatically syncing. I have 2 accounts with Bank of America (the largest institution in the US), and even they will not function. Just constructive criticism.

Thanks

I love the service - something like this is long overdue. But to really help manage my financial life, I'd need to include:

1. Student loans
2. Car loans
3. Mortgages
4. Investment/Retirement accounts
5. Ability to track any other unsupported accounts manually

I've already sent two of these into the suggestion box, but here is my list:

1. Set budget limits. I want to setup amounts for categories or category groups and see my monthly progress against those limits.

2. Future spending. I'd like to mark transactions as recurring, and be able to add in future items that will be coming up so that the tool can calculate my future cash flow. (Similar to MS Money, but better)

3. Custom categories

4. Next to the magnifying glass, add a "E" or something so that I can change the category and name right there on the item, so I don't have to scroll back up to the buttons on a long list.

5. This is probably a tough one, but Wells Fargo (and I'm sure other banks) do check images. It would be awesome if you could show the check image, and then I could easily go through and categorize my checks. Perhaps almost in a thumbnail / full image view similar to Flickr. Gather up all of the checks, show me one, I click the category and/or type in a name, then click next to see the next image. That would rock.

I like the potential of this tool and am looking forward to new features and upgrades.

Oops, new one I just found

5++: Need to be able to select what the auto-matching matches on when renaming entries. Sometimes my bank does wierd things with transfers or other auto transactions that makes them hard to match up to the real name and category.

I love the concept of Mint, but it just doesn't have enough features yet to be truly useful. Without the two functions below, I don't really have any use for Mint.

The ability to divide up transactions
The ability to add investment accounts

It would also be nice to be able to add custom accounts, like cash, value of real estate, precious metals held etc.

I signed up yesterday.

One thing I really want to see is transaction splits. Mint says my grocery bill is $110, when in actuality I bought $50 in groceries, and received $60 money back to pay my roommate for utilities. I do this all the time, so my "breakdown" is really off.

I'd also like to see custom categories.

Thanks.

The ability to enter a transaction manually that is later reconciled when downloaded from my bank (the way quicken works)
the ability to make that entry over SMS (also retrieve balances over SMS)
Scheduled transactions?...I haven't poked around enough, maybe its there, but I haven't seen it yet.

Really without the first one, the usefulness of the tool is limited for me.

an API would also be nice...but thats a nice to have, if there is an api, I can make an iphone interface for myself :)

Transactions: Manual entry of Transactions
Transactions: Importing of data (use of Quicken compatible would work for older transactions --more people will switch if they can have access to all their financial history)
Transactions: Categories --customized categories
Accounts: I've been having trouble accessing my Capital One online savings account.

A few suggestions that pertain to accounts really. Possibly adding stock/retirement sites, specifically stockbny and ING retirement funds :-). Just be easier to monitor it all on one great site.

1. Fix account connection issues. I know it's been said and I'm sure your working feverishly on it. Just figured I'd add it again.

2. Manual Accounts? Some feature like this. I'm a server/bartender. I work on tips. So cash is like another account for me. It would be nice to be able to keep track of how much cash I made every night and how much I spent at the bar or where ever by adding a manual transaction to my Cash account. The only problem I can see with this is that your cash account could easily become unbalanced if you, say, deposit cash into your bank and forget to add a transaction for removing the cash from your account. I think if you kept manual account seperate from the rest of the accounts, this wouldn't matter that much. This should actually be my #1 as it's the biggest feature I'm craving.

3. Maybe some line-graph options?

4. To go along with #2. It would be cool if there was a way to send a text message with some text and a dollar amount to create a new transaction for your manual account from the road. Would probably help people stay up to date and keep up with your 'automatic' thing. If I can send a quick text message any time I spend some cash, I'm going to get home later to check my accounts and everything is still going to be balanced. Perfect! x=)

5. Just stability. Totally understandable that after being featured on so many sites over the past week that your site is up and down as far as stability is concerned, but I couldn't think of a 5th thing I really need from your site so I thought I'd mention it again. Keep up the great work!

Steve.

I have just started using Mint today. I really enjoy it but, as with any beta I have been involved with, there are some features I would like to see. Here is my list of 5 wants that I have compiled. I have ranked them in order of importance to me.

1) Alerts: Allow multiple email addresses. My husband and I both use the system and would both like to receive the alerts.
2) Transactions: Split transactions between categories.
3) Transactions: Custom categories and/or edit categories.
4) Transactions: Indicate the account transactions belong to within the 'All Accounts' view. Maybe by be color coding accounts. It might be worth this being an account option as people could be picky about the colors they want to see or if they want the color coding to show account categories such as checking account(s), savings account(s), credit card account(s) etc.
5) Transactions: Download transaction data.

In my opinion, the biggest thing I see missing in Mint is being able to set up savings milestones. It is incredibly useful to see where your money is going, but it is equally useful (in my opinion) to be able to look at the problem the other way around--i want to put $1000 a month into savings, how off from that am I (and what are easy expenses to cut).

I currently just use Excel to track those goals for me, but Mint is much, much prettier :)

p.s., etrade brokerage accounts!

As much as the ability to cross-categorize may be nice, it's a pretty advanced feature. I'd definitely prefer (NOWNOWNOW) the abililty to categorize and rename with as few clicks as possible.

Also, I just noticed: you're only recommending credit cards to people who have them. For shame! Look at my savings/checking/whatever and make a guess, at least! ;)

For top "5", it'd be:

1) as mentioned above "inline" rename/recat (agh, the cliiiiicking!)

2) export function (If you love something set it free...)

3) import function (And if it comes back, it'll bring its quicken files from 1992)

4) more stats drilldown/average comparison reports (Somehow, knowing I pay 30% less for my gas than people in Hawaii makes me less sad to not live on the beach)

5) "Life Issues/Goal" templates - don't just report on what HAS happened, tell me how my financial picture would look once I add a second carpayment, or a baby to the mix... And then find me some discounts on cars and babies. Or, er, whatever it is that babies need. Even if I'm just saving up for a vacation, give me some options/sliders for cost vs. time of year, etc...

Too ambitious? Anything that can "help me look forward" is going to be just as useful as looking back... But both in one place is my nirvana... And perhaps mint-revenue-stream-2.0 for you guys? ;)

Pretty much just 1 suggestion and that is to get Citizens Bank Working

09-20-2007, 05:49 PM
1. No more duplicate transactions

2. Correctly categorized transactions (I'm sick of having the majority of my transactions imported as "No Category")

3. A more accurate Spending Trends page. Most of the info on there, at least on mine, is just wrong. For example, it says I spent $132 on Restaurants, yet when I check the transactions that fall under that category and within the timeline I'm viewing, it totals to less than $132.

4. The ability to add bill and loan accounts.

5. Custom categories and remove the "No Category" category, it's useless.

1. Cash account with transaction entry. Optionally, ATM withdrawals would transfer to this account. This coupled with a mobile interface would be killer. (For the record, I have an iPhone)

2. There are action items for "rename", "categorize", "label" and "note" at the top and bottom of transaction lists. But working in a long list requires scrolling back up or down to use them. Why not add these actions to the floating transaction detail that appears on the right when a transaction is highlighted? Furthermore, why not make them editable in that area instead of using the transparent dialog thingy that is being used?

3. I have much more transaction history available in my online accounts than is being retrieved. I would like to increase the amount that is being retrieved for a better trends analysis.

4. Better categorization features. Custom categories and splits come to mind.

5. Access to more account types/partners. I would be nice to get a complete net worth by linking to investment and retirement accounts. (Fidelity, Merrill Lynch, Mellon and UBS, ftr)

6. Sync with desktop finance software or export to open format. No offense intended, but this is a startup. It would be nice to know that our data won't be lost if we're diligent about backing it up locally.

7. Custom account naming.

8. More elegant handling of expired sessions. I was editing a transaction and after making the change (or so I thought) I was booted to a login page.
BTW, kudos on compatibility with Safari.

1. ability to add my Advanta Business Card

2. exclusion of individual accounts (hide my personal accounts when i'm looking at my business accounts). In the meantime, even color coding by account would be useful.

3. Split transactions! When I deposit multiple checks, I need to know what is what.

4. Custom categories

#1, 2, and 3 are simply dealbreakers. :(

Please add the ability to hide or disable an account under a particular financial institution. I maintain multiple accounts with my bank (under the same online banking login), but only one of them is relevant to my personal finances. Having the others appear just messes up the total balance, etc; there appears to be no way to remove a particular account, just an entire financial institution.

2. Brokerage firms (ie. Scottrade)

Accounts: As already noted, investment and loan accounts would be nice.

Institutions: Sallie Mae has a good amount of our money (student loans for my spouse and I), and another good amount is collecting massive interest at Ameriprise Financial. As soon as these two are working well, the site's value will double.

Projection: Even projecting values by averages would be great.

Transactions: I should be able to recategorize and rename transactions by just clicking on the category and name. The magnifying glass should filter (by category or name).

Weekly Trends: My wife and I try to budget weekly, which makes it easier to keep track. The trends page only goes down to the month, though. (Looks great, and has all the information we need, but at too large a granularity.)

Import and Export: Very important to be able to get one's data out of a financial site. Also useful to be able to push. Not a deal-breaker for me, though.

Net Worth History: Along with the projection, a line graph of net worth (or other values) would be useful, and provide a bit of pride (when the derivative is positive) and a bit of incentive (when negative).

Oh, and did I mention I need Sallie Mae (currently can't connect) and Ameriprise (can't find) to work?

Awesome site, by the way. And I like knowing how you make your money: affiliate services actually make sense in this case. You're bringing a service together with a client, so the service makes money, you make money, and the client (us) saves money. Everybody wins!

Keep it up.

Great site, thanks for doing it. Aggregating financial info in a single tool has long been an idea of mine. Nice interface, too!

My top 5 feature requests:
1) Due dates listed for credit card bills on the accounts and overview pages
2) Incorporate other debt sources such as home loans/car loans from our bank
3) Either do auto-updating of account info upon log-in or have an "update all" button.
4) Be able to type in categories with an auto-completion function -- I would not have expected to find student loan in "kids" for example, because I'm paying off my own loan, not a child's...
5) Your forum has some weird delays built into it -- I'm not really sure why. I've often had to switch away from from the forum and back again to be able to type in the message field. Seems like some kind of bug...

Cheers,

1) custom categories
2) custom sub-categories that roll up under categories
3) ability to split up a single transaction to different categories (example - split food and merchandise in single transaction from Target)
4) have all the transactions for a category show up when I click on it in the pie chart view in "spending trends"
5) love the site so far - please keep up the great work!

1. Custom Smart Categories that remember the transaction and files it correctly the next time it comes through.
2. Addition of student loans, mortgages, brokerage accounts, ect.
3. Monthly Income Reports
4. Net worth tracking
5. I don't have a five... Amazing service! :)

1- Accounts : _ should be able to arrange/soort my account on summery and transaction page. as of now I ahve 18 cards :( and only use 2. I have to search through the cards list on left side to find them. if not arrange there should be some sort option like maximum use balance amount etc.
2- Transaction- when looking at all the transaction there should be a way of findinf the card/account related to it.
3- Transaction - mannual transaction entry for cash transactions.
4- Catagory: user defined category
5- allow me to make my own query base chart or more flexible transaction display.

Not up to 5 yet, but here's a few quickies:

1) Checks. I need something other than just the amount. My bank (national city) provides an image of each of my checks through their website; that would be enough. Just allow me to look at the image and I'll manually categorize it.
HOWEVER I'd love to see OCR or something that could figure out who it's to and what the memo is for and then categorize it automatically.

2) Account names. My Checking account currently has the exact same name as my savings account in the txt messages I get. (I'm about to buy a car in cash, so the $ amounts are not currently a good indication of which is which..)

3) Load times. All of the AJAX stuff is pretty snappy, but going from overview to transactions seems to take at least 10 seconds.

That's it for right now.. mint is, on the whole, amazing.

*added*
4) Random log outs. I'm always doing other stuff at the same time as playing with mint, and it seems like the logout timer is very short. This is worsened by how mint appears to be still logged in and doesn't inform me until I actually try to do something. So consider kicking up the time limit, but either way please have the page inform me when I've been logged out and can't actually do anything.

*edit*
Your forum actually just did this to me, only it handled it much better. I was editing a typo above and clicking save gave me a stupid error message (still better than nothing), but clicking advanced edit allowed me to log back in then continue editing my message *without loosing my changes*.

1) Display my Citibank Checking Plus account. It's a line of credit attached to my checking account that keeps me from being overdrawn. Also connect the -$200 labeled "Bank of America" from my checking account with the $200 paid to my Bank of America credit card.
2) Allow drill down from the pie chart to specific transactions.
3) Add mass transit (subway, bus, commuter rail, etc.) to the category list and allow for the creation of custom categories.
4) After I check a transaction and recategorize it, uncheck it. Otherwise I have to scroll, find it again, uncheck it, and then check the next transaction I want to recategorize. Also, fix the transaction sorting. When I sort by category and then click to the next page of transactions, the second page is sorted by date, and when I try to re-sort by category it takes me back to the first page.
5) Fix the slow load times. I shouldn't have to go off and check my email every time I change tabs.

2) Budgeting feature (with "envelopes" that are tagged for food, entertainment, gas, clothes, etc...each one has a limit for what can be spent in that category over a certain period of time....)

3) Ability to add debts that are due to individuals (instead of banks/credit cards). I have two personal loans for my car and schooling that i would like to have visible so that i have their payment in the back of my mind at all times while reviewing my finances

4) SMS updates for my accounts sent to my phone upon request

5) KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!

I would like to see the following:

. split transactions (absolutely necessary)

. virtual accounts that we manage ourselves (thinking
of saving for that Hawaiian vacation, make monthly
transfers to a virtual account resulting in your mint.com
front-page overview showing adjusted balances)

. programmatic API (i want to write scripts that are able
to mash-up my data in various ways)

. budgeting features (ability to set monthly limits for
various categories and a budget page showing where my
spending stacks up to my configured limits)

Side note... I wouldn't have a problem if you started using Google Ads or something (only text-based ads plz). You are
doing a great job and deserve more/greater compensation to
keep it up! :-)

1. Spending charts by account - I'd like to be able to track my spending by account... some of my bank accounts/ccs are business only, some are personal. I'd like to be able to view and track them separately.

2. I strongly second virtual accounts for saving/earmarking money for certain things.

I completely disagree with the poster above about text ads. Please do not ad advertising. Part of the reason I love mint is the beauty of it. Don't mess with this. I think the account referrals will be far more lucrative anyway.

Transactions:
Flag a transaction for multiple categories (Example: my Comcast bill is for both Cable TV and Internet)

Ways to Save:
Please do at least some region checking--for example, I am offered Verizon FiOS television service even though I am outside of any Verizon service area. I'd LOVE to switch to FiOS, but I can't.

Accounts:
I would love to at least be able to view my balance from my investment portfolio, even if it doesn't have full info, its nice to be able to see my balance at a glance in Mint. Full info would be the icing!

Seriously great work--I was in the beta and now using it live...and I'm much more inclined to log into Mint than any of my financial institutions.

As has been suggested, I too would find it useful to track my investments through Mint.

Moving forward, it'd also be nice to have Mint "widgets" for Yahoo! Widgets, Google Widgets, Netvibes, etc -- for at a glance info.

I didn't read all the others posts so this may be a double, but I do think it would be nice to be able to manually upload bank account information, from the file that banks allow you to download of your history.

Also possibly support for windows mobile devices, and anyother handheld internet connected devices would be awesome.

1)after rename or category, uncheck the transaction(s)
2)make the rename/categorize buttons accessible without scrolling
3)on rename create a rule based off original transaction not Mint label
4)Transaction paging not visible enough, took 1 hr of usage before locating it
5)Spending trends date range > put tick marks at boundaries of months, not center

Great service so far, but I'd love to see these things:

1.) More graphing and more general ocd geekiness so I can slice my finances 4500 ways. Most important is a trend for overall finances (basically last year, last month, last week). Deeper spending trends.

2.) the ability to show all my transactions (or up to 200 or so) on one transaction page.

3.) an RSS feed/link for the forums on my overall view page

4.) Investments (TIAA-CREF!) and student loans (Sallie Mae) and the option to turn them off/exclude them to get a financial picture without them.

5.) transfer matching: when I do a transfer to one account, it shows up in the other and both are included as individual transactions. I want to clip them together somehow.

H0mey
09-27-2007, 06:32 PM
1. Add an option to modify any of the rules you have set or simply the option to turn off a rule that was set by mistake.

2. Transactions: Split one transaction between two categories.

3. Editable account nick names.

4. Custom categories

5. My transactions have details, at least they are shown on the alt text on the transaction. It'd be nice if you could click the transaction and see all the details.

These are the biggest things that I would like to see.

Thanks,

Most of the features I would like to see have been covered, so I won't repeat them. Some other things...

I would like to be able to jump to one of my accounts. For example, I am looking over my transactions on Mint and decide I want to pay a credit card. It would be great if I could just click over to the credit card's site.

Also, I am really detailed in reviewing my transactions. I would like a feature where new transactions come in "unreviewed" and I could mark them as "reviewed". Of course, then I would want some kind of report of all unreviewed transactions, so I could quickly review them.

On a similar note... is there a way to view all No Category items quickly?

MsMoneybags

Please make it so we can see how it is pulling the average. Mine are all messed up. For example, my alert says "you spent too much on rent this month, your avg is $25". Huh, I wish.

I tried deleting the transactions from June, thinking that may skew it (since only like 4 June transactions showed up, obviously not all my regular expenses). I also meticulously categoried everything. I still dont get why all my averages are off.

Also, it would be cool if you could change the month on something. Say I pay Octobers rent early, It would now show I paid $1400 in rent this month and $0 in october (when It really shoudl show $700 each. I should be able to change the October rent to october date or be categorized for a different month).

Keep up the good work though, i love Mint! I'm referring anyone that will listen.

Transaction details. I see more detail per transaction on my bank's website. In order to see the full description of a transaction, I have to click "Rename"
Searchable notes - I go through my transactions and leave important notes (like, "remember to cancel this service"), but there's no way to find my notes later. Search doesn't include anything I've put into notes
A central repository or roll-up for all items I've labeled or added notes to.
A way to add or rename categories.

A few people have already said it but Sallie Mae and even additional student loans such as Citibank's http://www.studentloan.com would be great!

From my personal experience, sharing Mint with others, it seems like the majority of people that want to use mint.com are in the 18-30 range while the 35-60 range are too hesitant (something about thinking their paper statements sitting in their mailbox are more secure than an encrypted server :-p). My point being is a lot of those 18-30 year olds have some form of student loans so it would be a welcomed addition.

I only have one request, but I feel like it is relatively important in order for Mint to grow in these early stages.

There should be some sort of well updated list saying what has recently been changed (namely financial institutions added to Mint). And when things will be changed in the future, some sort of time line, or priority list. This way people will know that you are not ignoring their banks or credit cards, and that they will be there eventually. Also, if you did this you could have an option to let someone opt to receive email about a certain institution when it's status changes.

Income: Ability to break down income into specific categories when a few checks are deposited at once.

Returns: Being able to go into old expenses and "attach" a return transaction to that expense, thus canceling it out.

Mutual Funds: Access to my Vanguard accounts, or at least a way to add in a cash account (for the time being) that I can update manually when I feel like it, to keep track of my overall net worth.

Income versus expense: Easier tracking of how much was earned in set period of time versus spent, with ability to adjust dates of deposits so it is accurate regarding when that money was earned.

Older Accounts: history before June.

Ability to exclude an account from reports. Amex associates both my personal and business accts with one ID, so the transactions are all reported together. I use Mint for my personal accounts so this is very inconvenient.
The "Rule" feature UI is confusing. Can I assign a new category AND make a rule to the new category at the same time, or do I need to click on the trans twice? A place to view and edit rules would make this feature a lot better.
I would prefer a drop-down for category assignment rather than the current pop-up simulation.
Import and export, at least to .CSV and Quicken formats
A report scheduler -- I would love it if I could create a report and have Mint deliver it to my in-box daily, weekly, and/or monthly in PDF, CSV, or HTML format.
OK, I am cheating and naming six. Brokerage account access is huge for me.

Also, I cannot get my Amsouth/Regions account signed up, but I know that is a priority for you.:D

Although many of these suggestions have been mentioned before, I want to be sure my vote is counted because I would love to see Mint succeed!

1. Categories: Customizable categories
2. Categories: After changing categories of checked items, it would be great to have those items unchecked automatically. Right now, after I make changes and move on to changing the category of a group of transactions, the ones I just changed remain selected and I often forget to uncheck them... resulting in unwanted category changes. (did that make any sense)
3. Transaction: Consistent translation - by this I mean that sometimes Mint does a GREAT job of deciphering the garbage that shows up in my bank statement (i.e. VZWRLSS*APOCC VISW = Verizon Wireless) but sometimes I'll get a string of transactions labeled as "ATM Withdrawal" when they were really "POS Transaction - Safeway Co."
4. Import older Quicken/Microsoft Money data to give a bigger historical picture (I personally hate starting over with each new finance tracker)
5. Categories: If possible, get rid of the clicking. In-line editing would save me approximately 300 clicks each week :)

Keep up the good work!

1. Include prosper.com accounts + brokerage accounts, even if its just - balance.
2. Better navigation. There is currently no way to get back to the transactions page after clicking on an individual transaction. Highly irritating! Also, easier change of transaction categories and names.
3. Splitting transactions.
4. Get credit card interest rates and CD interest rates. Its currently recommending meaningless credit cards and checking accounts because it doesn't know my Chase bank CC interest rate and doesn't know my e*trade CD is earning interest.
5. More social features, like comparing your spending pie chart to other people in your age group. Let people access spending averages to mash them up at a site like swivel.com

1. Brokerage account support
2. The ability to edit bank/credit card account information. One of my credit cards shows up without information about APR and if it has rewards. (It's a Chase Reward's card.) If I could edit it myself, that would be good enough for me.
3. My University of Michigan Credit Union account doesn't list my credit card. It only lists my Share Savings account.
4. More Trends control. For a Trends section, their aren't that many that I can control. I'd like to be able to ignore certain categories and view spending as a line graph over time. I'd like to see my income as well as expenses. There's more that I'm not thinking of though.
5. I'd like to be able to split certain purchases over multiple months.

Thanks a bunch for everything that's been done so far.

First off ... MINT is awesome. Clean, fast and with a good interface. In addition to all the really great ideas already expressed by others (especially investment account aggregation) ...

I would like to see the addition of being able to manually add fixed assets and liabilities. This would help in two ways:

(a) Create a short-term fix for accounts where live data aggregation is impossible (smaller banks or those that don't have web access)

(b) Allow the addition of Fixed Assets (like homes, cars, etc) and Liabilities (mortgages and personal loans).

When these are added, the summary picture will be a better representation of a person's TOTAL financial picture.

1. Custom Categories & sub-categories
2. Ability to keep account(s) from flowing into Mint from a given institution at which I have multiple accounts. Ex: I have 3 accts at a given bank but one of them is a business account which I don't want flowing into my Mint profile.

1 & 2 above are keeping me from switching to Mint for my personal finance mgmt.

3. Better transaction description. I have to frequently log into the bank website to see the full description.
4. Ability to enter budget numbers by category / sub-category.

Overall, I like where you're going. Keep it up!

I'd like to be able to set what time my accounts update. They seem to update very early (ie, before changes are made). It would be nice if I could say "update every day at 8 am, 12 pm and 6 pm" and let it do it's thing.

Also, I'd like to be able to trend things by account. I have the Chase Freedom card where you get 3% back on the top 3 categories where you spend money. If I could JUST trend the transactions from that card, it would make it easier to figure out my top 3 categories.

While not the perfect solution for everyone, I was wondering how many folks were creating labels for the custom categories?

Sub accounts: Something we're definitely working on supporting (removal of accounts from one login, etc.).

Accounts: In your lists of bank accounts you list the Merrill Lynch credit card site, but not their CMA (debit card style) site. I am happy you included ML, and I do have a credit card with them, but right now this website is of very little use to me until you guy get the CMA section going. I am excited about mint.com and hope to use it soon.

(the actual address I use for the CMA log in is https://www.fs.ml.com/login/login.asp?site=mlol?mlhp

I'd like better utilization of labels. Not only would I like a better frontend for labeling transactions, I'd like to be able to incorporate labels in my spending overviews. For instance, I can currently use the Spending Overview to see how much I've spent on food, and I can break that down to see what I'm spending on groceries versus restaurants- but I'd like to be able to break that down further and see how much money I'm spending on Italian restaurants vs. Japanese restaurants, or Breakfast vs. Dinner.

I'd also like to be able to automatically assign labels- always label charges from Sweet Basil as Thai, or whatever.

Transactions: Fix the duplicates issue. I like Mint because it saves me data entry, but fixing the duplicates manually is about as inconvenient as data entry.

Transactions: SPLITS. I keep saying you're considering implementing this functionality, not that you're committed to it.

Transactions: Custom categories.

Spending: A way to compare my spending trends -- in terms of merchant, category, and account-- with goals (maximums and minimums), not just historical spending.

Alerts: Make delivery more timely. They're useless to me now, as I receive information 3-4 days after a transaction.

Transactions: Better sorting/filtering. Also, if you've sorted on something other than date, the pagination doesn't remember that setting.

Data entry: Exporting/importing/manual entry.

Cash handling: this is back to the splits. There is no such thing as an expense called "cash". You spend that cash on something, and usually several somethings. If I withdraw something from the ATM, I should be able to note that I spent that money on something--and that I used cash to pay for it.

There's a similar service as mint now available on my BoA checking account--complete with the ability to add outside accounts! They don't let me do splits, that I can figure out, but I can also layer in investment accounts and the like. And export. And also custom categories and goals. They're starting to look mighty appealing.

Thanks...appreciate the thought folks put in the responses.

The biggest enhancement in my opinion would be to pull in more transaction history from added accounts. For example, I can go back years with my Chase account, but for some reason Mint will only pull in a month or two.

1. Transactions: Custom categories! It definitely seems as though the categories were designed by a man...what about categories such as "beauty supplies"?
2. Accounts: Accepting and tracking 401ks, investments, loans, etc.
3. Transactions & Budgets: Advice and tips on how to budget out your finances. Or, how about the ability to pre-distribute a select amount of money for a given category? Something like envelopes.
4. Transactions: Tracking saving for different things. Such as, a wedding, a car, and a Powerbook?
5. Transactions: Having a different area for savings goals, vs. spending maximums.

2. Custom Categories
3. Accounts: When I signed up (yesterday) and setup my bank accounts I only got 18 transactions from the past month. But on the bank's site I can see transactions from 6 statements ago. I want to see everything. It would make the site much more impressive for a new user to be able to see more data. The graphs would be more complete, etc. I can't really do much with the site yet because I don't even have a full month's data in there.
4. More advanced rules in the Transaction rename/categories section. I want to be able to say, for example, if The merchant INCLUDES 'walmart' anywhere in the string then the Merchant name is 'Wal-Mart'. Or, if the merchant is includes 'walmart', AND the amount is BETWEEN $20 and $35 then the category is Fuel, ELSE the category is groceries. Stuff like that.
5. More graphs and analysis. I want my data analyzed like crazy. Give me line graphs of historical spending based on date, merchant, category, etc. Everything you can think of. Maybe custom graphs as well.

Looks good for being in beta!

Sorry if all these have been discussed before ..

- Custom Accounts. I understand if a local credit union is going to be supported after major banks. But, in the meanwhile I would like to have add accounts that I will manually reconcile
- The above request could be used for things like Brokerage accounts (which by the way has a fine line with Money market and other savings accounts these days), mortgages etc.
- Frequent flier miles
- Ability to recategorize transactions. For example a transaction I made at a department store is showing up as a Restaurant expense. This might already be available with labels? Couldn't quite figure it out
- Spurious messages about "Bill is due in 5 days..", when the bills have already been paid :) This seems to be using some poor heuristics.

I know you already have your top 5 but,

Splits:
I split almost every lunch with my co-workers and dinner with the wife. Quicken sees these payments as income and screws up everything. I'm sure there's a fix, but haven't found it yet. This is crucial. (and very difficult I'm sure.)

Offline (import/export):
I'm of the opinion that web-app phase is awesome but only when combined with something that can go 'offline' when I'm travelling around. That's what will determine the long-term players. Nothing fancy, just an option to do it. Even .csv format would be good.

4) View, change, and delete categorization and renaming rules.
5) View, change, and delete categorization and renaming rules.

It's really becoming a major annoyance for me. I was quite disappointed that this problem wasn't fixed in the latest release.

I have a few incorrect rules. When I manually fix the categories of my incorrectly categorized transactions, they revert back to their original and incorrect category the next day.

Cheers,
Mike

I've seen these before, but thought I'd add my 2-cents of the 5 changes I'd like to see.

Transactions: As many have said, a HUGE need is the ability to split transactions between categories!
Transactions: How about the ability to show when I last logged in, and know what new transactions there are since last time I logged in? I usually look through all the transactions to make sure categories are correct. Sometimes I forget where I left off...
Categorizing: Add/modify/delete categories
Categorizing: An "OK" button. Sometimes I click the category I want and nothing happens.
Ways to Save: Ability to "hide" or say "No thanks" to "ways to save" that don't work for me/aren't right, or even that I might have already. There are a few listed for me that make no sense or are unhelpful (for example, it tells me I can save on Verizon cell phone bill by switching to a Verizon land line)

I really like 2 and use Excel for this now.

But here are my top 5:
1) brokerage account compatibility (fidelity.com, thinkorswim.com)

2) weekly email updates: These need to have more than just balance listings and current transactions. I think a more valuable approach would be to have monthly budget limits with current expenditures towards those limits.

3) savings goals: there needs to be a way to setup savings goals and have them tracked weekly in the email so people will work towards those things can keep track of them easily (currently tracked in excel for me). Also, these savings goals should become spending categories so when you categorize a transaction as "savings toward vacation", your savings goal is automatically updated.

4) manual transactions and csv support. I can live with no brokerage hookups as long as I can manually enter cash and brokerage account transactions manually. I use my brokerage account as a checking and bill paying account so I need this function to make the trends feature really work.

5) transfer reconciliation. This is very tough, I know. The logic would have to be something like "If you find a transfer out for $200, look at all other accounts and if you have a transfer in for that amount, reconcile. If it is ambiguous, ask."

Sorry, 6) Money map...if reconciliation works, a nice piece of eye candy would be to show how money flows from one account to another graphically. This would be useful for things like documenting money flows for your spouse who may not know the full lay of the land (like my situation).

Beautiful website! I'm a bookkeeper, and really appreciate the ease of use and streamlined nature of this program!

My suggestions:
1) Make Categories editable - Change name, delete, add new.
2) Export data to spreadsheet or other financial management program in the form of monthly reports
3) Ability to customize the Spending Trends view - to include the Categories one is most interested in
4) Ability to view entire Spending trends vs. budget in list form (not just the partial view on the Spending trends page)

Thank you for providing this service!

(1) I understand this service to be a tracking/planning tool, but it would be incredibly useful for me to be able to PAY bills rather than my bank doing it directly. Mint could be the UberQuicken or or UberMoney program so many would find useful. Many, not all, of us want that ONE service... if we want this to be all inclusive (maybe we don't) then it will record every financial transaction...or at least all that we want to record.

(2) In addition to the ability to manually edit unsupported transactions and set schedules for these things, I think important would be the ability to manually slice up, for example, a grocery store atm transaction (I get most of my cash at the grocery store...or for mint to look for keywords...this can be difficult since each atm will do things differently...the problem mint faces is that there doesn't seem to be any standards, therefore customization will be the saving grace of this service so that people can tailor a non-standards based service into a personalized one...

(2a) Very helpful creating a trail for cash transactions:
"paid babysitter"
"paid back friend"
"birthday cash to nephew"
"won a giftcard"
"luck at lotto $50"

(3) email distribution list for alerts...or simply the ability to add multiple accounts and assign alert types to them.

(4) Creating categories or the ability to create categories like:
"Needs"
"Wants"
"Frivilous"
"Reward"
"Unexpected Circumstance"

For those manual transactions, we need the ability to be able to impart fiscal discipline as we create organization...prompting would be helpful like:

You made this purchase on this day, please categorize it
(1) Unexpected (2) Cash (3) Food (4) Gift (5) Mix and Match

The more this service can be tailored to prompt and push us, the better we'll see our decisions and actions visualized.

I would be so bold to suggest that a majority of us don't have the fiscal discipline we'd like to have, so turning on the ability to "confront" ourselves or our challenges would be helpful.

I don't think I'm able to articulate this well, but I thought I would take a stab at it and see if it prompts an idea.

Overview/Budgets: After setting a number of budgets it would be nice to have a 'total budgeted amount' at the bottom. That would give you a good reality check of whether your monthly spending goals are realistic.

It also should be a complete listing of budgeted spending, for example $500 of 'Not Budgeted spending should show up on that page as well since that would tell me that I need to be sure to track those categories as well.

Transactions: Broken record (and I hear that they are coming but...) Being able to Split a transaction. That alone will clean up my categories and budget reporting.

Transactions: I can search for all transactions that are labeled 'MyLabel' (tag:MyLabel), but there is no way to search for all transactions that don't have that label (!tag:MyLabel) or that have no label. I use that to label each transaction as 'Reviewed'

Tag/Labels: Just an observation that tags are called 'Labels' when you create them, but when you search on them the search is 'tag:MyLabel', I'd assume that it should be 'label:MyLabel' just to be consistent.

Accounts: Allow a manual way to enter in the interest rate for an account or the rewards (even if it was just a text field) so it will be available to compare against when viewing competing 'Ways to Save'

Transactions: RSS - How about an RSS feed of my transactions. Just to keep up with what's going on with my accounts?

Transactions: Allow me to manually import historical data. I can download a csv or qif file with the last 6 months of transactions on it. Let me import that since the automatic process only seems to get a current statement's worth.

really just one thing.

Budgeting: Let me define when a month begins and ends. I'd love to be able to say, for example, that July is actually June 19th to July 20th or ..15th to 16th..etc.

Other than that it's an amazing tool and I love it.

I'm surprised I haven't seen this already, although I did not read through in as much detail as I could have. I have seen a lot of mention of budgeting, but not necessarily in the detail I would like. I would love to schedule when all of my bills are due. I don't even care if mint does not allow me to pay them through its interface (although that would be fantastic), but I want mint to be able to tell me when a bill is due. Obviously I would have to enter that information myself the first time, as I do in Quicken (I don't expect mint to make a deal with every company that sends me a bill). But once it is entered the first time mint can tell me when bills are due soon (as it does with credit cards), how much they are (either a static amount or an average of the last x payments) and possibly a link to the website for payment.

Actually yodlee somehow automagically does pull the due dates of the bills and sends me reminders. I do of course select which companies I get bills from but then it allows me to enter manual ones as well. Now if Mint could do this and then throw an iCal feed out so that I could subscribe to this with my calendar it would be great. That way I wouldn't need email reminders(less Bacn in my email)

If they could be pulled in, that would be amazing. I'm just saying it's not 100% necessary. Pulling to an iCal feed would certainly be fantastic -- I currently have a calendar in my google calendar where I have manually entered all of my bills, but I can't mark them as paid or enter the amount in any meaningful way.

Here are my suggestions. I know some of them have been said already.

Accounts: The ability to add our store credit and gift cards as an account. I have many walgreens gift cards that I get after submitting rebates and it would be great if mint can track them automatically (or manually, because I dunno if mint will be able to get the balance automatically. but i know some stores let you look up the balance on their website using the gift card number as login.)

Accounts: track my 401k balance
Accounts: track my stocks
Transactions: the ability to split up transactions to multiple categories

I can't think of any more right now, but I'm sure more will come.

Transactions: Split transactions between multiple categories
This is a deal killer for me. I've wanted to use Mint but I can't switch to it fully yet until this particular feature is added. I need to be able to track what I spend on Sales Tax among other things. My goal is to be able to quit using the POS product I currently use, but without this, I can't.
Transactions: The ability to attach receipts/invoices to transactions.
This is also a must for me. I have to have it before switching completely. I haven't seen much about this particular feature from other users, which is disconcerting.
Accounts: An ability to track cash spending. Maybe a manual Cash account?
Accounts: Ability to track 401k/stock/mortgages/helocs
Accounts: The ability to import data from other financial software--to have a greater length of history.

That's all I have right now. I'm definitely keeping my eye on Mint, and I can't wait to see what's to come.

2. Ability to mark certain transactions as "memorized", user configurable to occur at some interval, and with an option to set the number of occurances remaining.
3. Balance forecast user configurable to consider memorized transactions and/or category averages for forecast.
4. Investment Account / 401k support

For me to refer my family & friends to Mint.com these issues need to be fixed.

1. User-defined categories
2. Manual entry of transactions
3. Splitting of transactions (by category)
4. View the budget results not just based on current date

I feel strongly that by fixing these issues. Mint.com will be much more popular.

As far as I am concerned the budgeting tools are by FAR the weakest part of Mint.com. I was hoping to be able to use Mint instead of Mvelopes, but the system is not even close. I can't imagine how it can be useful to have pre-set budgeting categories that you can't change, and to only offer a few pre-set available categories to add. If consumers can't choose their own budgeting categories with whatever names they need, and set their own amounts, or delete those they don't want, then this service can't compete with a service like Mvelopes that lets you name your own envelopes and set your own amounts. For someone like me, my main concern is being able to set a detailed monthly budget and allocate transactions as they come in to keep me on track. Until Mint.com does this I'll have to keep paying for another service!

Damon

Note: This is our first iteration on a budgeting feature & you will most certainly see changes down the road.

Additional note: The preset budgeting categories are there because they are the largest areas of discretionary spending by most consumers. The other budgets, of which you can create up to 70, can be edited/deleted/changed.

In case you are still interested in suggestions:

1) Monthly reports. Could be a customizable report sent to my email address that gives me a recap of how I've done for the month with relation to my budget and previous months. Could include an option to manual trigger a report as well.

2) History: this month's budget has no meaning to me unless I can compare to how I did last month or prior.

3) Custom categories. Being a software developer though, I can understand the complexities with this.

4) Disable auto naming. By default I have had a number of transactions nammed to something totally misleading (e.g. my Washington Mutual mortgage payment was named something like WaMu Children Services or something like that. It was then auto-categorized in one of the Children categories.

5) Mortgage/Invesment account support

Lastly, I'd like to mention that I have used a number of online and desktop money management solutions. While its not yet there for me to use on a regular basis (in many ways b/c of lack of some of the above feature suggestions), what is there is very straight forward and easy to use. With future feature enhancements I could see myself using Mint as my primary budgeting tool as I believe it brings a fresh and uncomplicated approach to finance account aggregation and money management.

Hi! Thanks for such a great product! My new fiance and I are using it to combine our finances and get more organized. it's so useful!

My top 5 changes:

1. Transactions: Student loan repayment tracker (alert me of opportunities to get a better rate.)

2. Transactions: people have already mentioned transaction splitting. This would be amazing for big expenses like home renovation or weddings. We could create our own categories (wedding) and subcategories (flowers) to handle our budget.

It would also be cool if you had a smart split that recognized an ATM withdrawal of $81.75 to be $80 cash and a $1.75 atm fee.

3. Spending trends: select which account data to show. would love to see different pies for different credit cards. (can we already do this?)

4. Spending trends: be able to remove/customize the graphs below the pie chart. (i.e. i live in the city and don't have gas expenses)

5. Offer a "click-to-sum" option that sums the transactions I select.

Mid next week you will me able to split transactions and as part of that release we will also implement some changes that will attempt to accurately identify and split ATM fees.

You can isolate accounts to report on by hiding one or more accounts. This is probably not as easy as it should be (i.e. the option is off of the accounts tab, not the spending trends tab). We will look at making this easier in a future release.

New user here...

There are two things sorely missing here.

1. Cash transactions! This is huge. I want to be able to manually add an account (my wallet) and register transfers from my checking account to my wallet (ie. ATM withdrawls). I should then be able to manually track the spending done out of my wallet. Being able to split ATM withdrawls will be a start but we need true cash tracking.

2. Once #1 has been resolved, the next aspect would be to add a mobile component. This is unnecessary without being able to input cash transactions, but I would love to be able to spend cash, whip out my cell phone, and punch in what I just spent on a mobile version of this site.

Implement those two suggestions and this site will be gold.

I'm very new to Mint.com, but I would like to see the following two changes:

1. Custom categories
2. Date changes :: Sometimes things will be paid for in a month that it isn't actually budgeted for. For example, we bought nearly $100 in groceries on Oct. 31. That was supposed to come from our November budget, but the date pushed it into October.

Great site. Very useful. Thanks.

I wish I could add 4 more, but because I cannot add my primary checking, savings and loan accounts (Commerce), I really cannot explore all of mint's features, or lack there of!:)

What is odd is that I have been using Yodlee and it can log into all of my accounts with no issues whatsoever. Seeing as mint.com uses Yodlee to connect to the banks, I find this peculiar.

Transactions: I really need my bank account transactions to upload when I update those bank accounts. Now the update only uploads the current totals in each account. Do others experience this problem?

Categories: It would be nice to have the category changes made repeat the next time such a transaction is uploaded. As of now I often have to redo the category change several times.

Budgets: Is there a way to add additional budget categories or change the names of some existing ones?

Now that I've been on Mint.com for a few more idea, I have a few more ideas (some of which have already been suggested, I'm sure). Here they are:

1. Annual budgeting :: While some parts of my budget(groceries, gas, etc.) are budgeted monthly, others things (gifts, vacation, auto repair) are budgeted throughout the year. This, of course, is so that I don't have to budget $600 for Christmas in December. I can budget $50 per month instead. I'd love to see that function added. It would be great to see what's budgeted there carried over each month.

2. Spending Trends - Based on Income Instead of Total Expenses :: Currently, the spending trend percentages are based on my total expenses, not on my income. This skews the results because savings and other unspent money is not factored in.

3. Printer-Friendly Pages :: I would like to be able to print pages from this in a cleaner and more efficient way.

Keep up the great way. Thanks for a great service.

1. Customizable categories. This is huge and probably the only reason I haven't continue to use Mint daily. I can't see how much I'm spending on public transportation vs. overall travel, water/gas/elect. vs. overall utilities, etc.
2. Personal check details. BofA has a feature where you can actually see the check you wrote, in case you can't recall what it was for.
3. A "vice-tracker" feature to see how much you're spending on things like alcohol, cigs, strip clubs, etc. And maybe online counselors to help you with your issues?
4. Figure out a better way to handle transfers. If my roommates transfer money into my account for rent, then I pay rent, reporting is off.
5. Budgeting and forecasting. If I want to really build estimates in the future for how my income will change or for future cash out/inflows, there has to be a better way than just saying that during this period I'll only spend this much on gas.

6. I know you said 5, but this one's long-term: If you want to get really detailed you can break down each purchase and suggest offerings from other companies. Splits approach this idea, and I love splits, but I'm thinking this could also serve your interests. Say you can get a breakdown of everything I bought at Safeway one week and compared it to the sale that Albertson's/Kroger/some other grocer was having that week. You could tell me how much I would have saved had I shopped at "x" place. Or, if you notice I'm spending way too much for my Grande Cappucino at Starbucks, and there's a coffee shop across the street from where I live that offers a better one for less- send me there.

It's a long way off, but something to keep in mind.

1) Allow the import of historical data from quicken and MS Money. Some bank accounts no longer exist, and it is useful to construct a historical trend. People get attached to their years of data and don't want to give it up.

2) Support brokerage, 401k, IRA, loans, etc. The holy grail is to actually have a single point to get a view on Net Worth and you won't kill Quicken / Money until you've got it all.

I would like to see descriptions collected with all POS transactions. I cannot, for the life of me, understand why this information is so hard to come by? At the very least, show us the name of the vendor from which the purchase was made so that we can categorize the expense properly.

I have had a difficult time getting this information from my bank. I don't know that Mint is at fault here.

I could probably think of 25 things that would be "nice" but, in the interest of focusing on what I think is really important, I would recommend the following:

1. Custom Categories: It has been suggested multiple times, but this would be a great feature and would free Mint from having to think of all possible categories that someone might want.

2. Reports: Just a simple report that shows, for a customizable time frame, my categories, the budgeted amount, and the actual amount spent, with totals.

1. Login to your Mint account.
2. Go to the “Transactions” tab.

4. Place a check in the box next to the transaction.
5. Press the “split” option.

I like what everyone else has said so far, but here's my two cents:
Making all types of accounts available- mortgage, lines of credit, other banks and credit unions not currently supported, money market accounts, etc. You really can't get the FULL picture until everything is showing.

If you can't link them directly, then allow us to manually enter information regarding our other accounts. I don't even mean downloading in some other format manually, I mean MANUALLY enter in your site the balance and current transactions of an account that isn't supported by mint.

Manually add transactions. I know it sounds like the same as above, but I mean that I would like to be able to add transactions where I paid cash for something. How else can we track this against our budget?

Be able to chose a time period when viewing anything on mint. spending trends, budget vs. actual, etc. It would be great to see YTD or MTD or 1 month or 1 quarter or even 1 day. Whatever WE want to see.

Finally, allow us to make our own budget categories. I wouldn't call purchases like Tide a "Home Improvement" but it seems the closest in the choices right now. I'd like to make my own and not have to pick from your list. Also, make the list alphabetical, your list and how it's organzied doesn't make sense to my brain. I also think being able to create rules on our categories would be nice, too.

"Making all types of accounts available- mortgage, lines of credit, other banks and credit unions not currently supported, money market accounts, etc. You really can't get the FULL picture until everything is showing."

Things we most certainly hope to support.

Manual transactions: I know it seems like an easy solution to folks. It would, however, create some issues if we were to blend automatically downloaded transactions & manually added transactions. I am still personally pushing for it, though...

It would be great when you are in pie chart mode to be able to drill down and back up from the details. When you do further analysis of, say, Utilities, you get the list of transactions but can't go back to the pie chart, you're stuck in transactions. The back button doesn't allow you to return to that view either. You end up starting the process all over again. Would be great to at least have Back button capabilities.

Other than that so far, this is great. Get Fidelity Investments on board and my financial history is complete!:D

Thanks!

I'm a relatively new user of Mint, but would love to see:
1) Expand rule making capability to include "splits": specifically, I have a joint account which is funded by 55% my money and 45% someone elses money. I want each transaction to be split 45% excluded from Mint and 55% included in my financial picture. I would love to be able to set that up as a rule so that I didn't have to manually split every transaction.

2) Allow brokerage accounts, other accounts. Really hard to get the full financial picture without bringing in other kinds of accounts.

3) Allow splits and labels to be applied when multiple ledger lines are checked off. Splits are greyed out as soon as multiple items are selected. I would like to be able to split on a percentage basis all those selected.

That's all I've got for now... tune in next time for the other 2 suggestions...

Thanks again for Mint! I hope to see the following items:

Show all accounts. department stores, loans, utilities, department of motor vehicles, car insurance, cell phone, investments, annuitiies. Show every account that is on our credit reports.

show upcoming bills, per the account information listed above.

on Overview page, add 1 month projected balance based on average of last three month spending and regular salary (if it is regular)

on Spending Trend page, have a screen showing balances in all accounts per month for at least the last three months.

on the Spending Trends page, have screen showing a row for each account and a column for each month in order to show how money is spent each month. basically, a P&L report by month.

since the complete financial picture should be shown on mint, add a "Taxtime" tab, and include projected taxes for us, perhaps partner with leading online tax prep company.

thanks!

For those of us with medical spending accounts.. would be good to have an option to set the amount for the year and then have Mint:

1) Highlight/alert expenses that are potentially eligible
2) Analyze the past year/month to forecast what next year's medical expenditures are likely to be.
3) Alert when end-of-year approachs and $$ remain in the spending account

1. envelope budgeting
2. more robust customization options (top priority there for me would be allow users to actually see the category rules they've set, and to edit them)
3. actually, number 2 (above) broken down into different kinds of customization is basically the only thing other than envelope budgeting that I'd really like, other than bug fixes

Let us make our own category lists. Until this is done, I can't justify using your service. (Sorry if that sounds snooty, but the list as presented doesn't line up with how I need to budget.)

Budgets: I would like to see the ability to set the budget monthly out in the future. For example, I would like to budget a certain amount of money to utilities (which would be different and higher in summer and winter months), so I could enter a value for each month of the upcoming year.

Thanks for the great program and keep up the good work!

I think Mint is a great idea and I look forward to releasing the MS Money Shackles in the near future. That being said & having only used it for a little while there are a couple of features that I would really like to see implemented:

Transactions: The ability to manually enter purchases. It simply makes it easier to track my spending. If I have to always wait for updates from my bank, I may not have an accurate balance when I go to make a purchase (e.g. I have an outstanding check that hasn't been cashed and I forget about it). I'm guessing a big issue here would then be the synchronization of my manual entries and those imported from the financial institution.

Budget: The ability to exclude certain accounts from the budgeting process

1. Bill Pay features or billpay reminders
2. Ability to manually enter some accounts that are not available online.
3. Ability to create a budget for the future.
4. Export ability for taxes
5. import credit report data

Top 5 things I'd like to see:

1. Customized categories--preferably not just the names, but the ability to move subcategories around. I want to put "rent" under the "bills" category rather than "housing."
2. A longer transaction history. I would like to download the entire transaction history that my bank (Bank of America) offers, rather than just the three months that Mint gets. Alternatively, if this doesn't violate copyright laws, it would be great if Mint could read downloaded transaction history from my banks (this is how I import data into Quicken - with a downloaded .qfx file)
3 and 4. When I split a transaction, Mint does two things that I would like changed. First, it shows up in the transaction list as two separate transactions (a $200 transaction gets split into two $100 transactions, for example). Second, when these two transactions show up, the transaction list goes back to the first page, so I have to scroll through the pages again to get back to the transaction I was looking at. It's just a little annoyance, but since you're asking for 5 things... :-)
5. Well, those were the only 4 things I have seen that I would like changed. The transaction history and the custom categories are the big ones. Those issues are keeping me from solely using Mint, and using Quicken instead.

Thanks for the great product, and I really hope you make these changes!

* Categories: Being able to customize the categories would be huge.
* Multi-user access: Right now, my wife has to use my e-mail/password combo. It would be great if she could use her own e-mail/password to login into the same account. That could also pave the way for "private" and "shared" accounts.
* Accounts: Automatically update all accounts when signing in. Even with the nightly updates that are supposed to occur, I find that updating my accounts is one of the first things I do when logging in.
* Accounts: A "Cash Account" would be great. That's really the only place I would want "manual" transaction entry, but it would let me do things like track cash purchases and incoming checks from others. E.g. I spend $100 on tickets to some show, and my friend pays me back for his ticket with a $50 check/cash; being able to track that lets Mint know that I really only spent $50, because the other $50 is made up by the "deposit" in the cash account.
* Mobility: The UI is great on a full computer, but checking things out on a mobile-device screen is painful at best, and the AJAX support is spotty depending on the device.

1: Customizable categories

2: Customizable rules: Due to my own errors there are rules that want to delete but can't. I found out the hard way when I renamed a transaction, there was a rule in place that also re-categorized all the transactions with a name change. I had to go back a re-categorize each transaction individual. If I had access to "Edit Rules" this problem could be avoided.

3: Bill Pay

4: Ability to import transactions from the past year.

5. UI for iPhone

I've evaluated Yodlee, Geezeo, Quicken Online, Wesabe, and Mint, and I would put Yodlee and Mint at the top of my list. Unfortunately, the things I like about Mint are missing from Yodlee, and the things I like about Yodlee are missing from Mint. That being said, however, if both shored up their differences, I would still stay with Mint based on asthetics, ease of use, and understanding that personal finance customers are their first priorty, whereas Yodlee is well diversified in other areas and not always incented to enhance features or read suggestions of average joes like myself.

Things I'd like to see added/improved in Mint:

1) More flexible categorization/payee standardization rules (e.g. categorization rules by amount/payee combination)
2) Tracking loan accounts (e.g. car/mortgage)
3) Update all Accts option on overview page
4) Custom reports
5) Tracking cash accounts

2. More robust budgeting. I really like the budgeting feature, but it would be great if it were fleshed out a bit. Most importantly, when the month is over, it simply resets...you can't see how you finished the last month. it would be great to be able to see trends of how you're doing within your budget. Also, the custom categories would make budgeting easier as well.

i love mint. it's made my life a lot easier. thanks! :D

2) Change bank's login information at any time (not just when incorrect)
3) Improving the automatic transaction renaming

I'm very excited because Mint is so close to being exactly what I've been looking for. However, there are a couple of key features missing that make it actually worthless for the moment. Sorry to be blunt.

1 - Customizable categories. A lot of people have commented on this. Categorizing creatively is a critical financial tool for many.

2 - Printable reports.Reporting is a KEY feature. I need something for my records, and my accountant.

3 - Flexible reporting dates. The slider bar is great. But sometimes I need to generate a report that goes from a particular date. My small business has a different fiscal year, for instance.

4 - Something approximating Envelope budgeting. It's great to see where your money has gone. You've done an amazing job. If Mint could just as easily show how much money is left in a category, that would be unbelievable. Mvelopes tries to do this, but is clunky.

First of all I love Mint. It is way better for my purposes than all the other alternatives. There are a few things that I would like to see.

1. Ability to set the total budget. Right now the total at the bottom of the overview is generated by Mint. I would like to set that so that I can set a total monthly budget on the overview

2. A simple view of the money brought in and the money going out, and the net difference. Quicken Online has this, and it is the only thing they have that is better than Mint.

3. Add mortgage accounts and investment accounts to Mint.

4. A place to view, edit, and create categorization rules for transactions. As well as the ability to mark transactions as business, personal, etc. That way I could have business food transactions, and personal food transactions in a way that is different than just adding notes or tags.

5. Stretch Request: A place where I can manage, research, and prepare my yearly taxes.

I love Mint. Keep up the good work. I look forward to seeing where it goes and how it grows.

It's my 2nd day with Mint, but I'm already looking forward to getting a grip on my budget for 2008. The one feature I'd like is really an enhancement of a current one.

That is, I'd like phone alerts to be sent to both myself and my wife's phone. We're a team and both responsible for our spending so it's only reasonable that we should both receive spending alerts. If I have the alerts sent to her phone only then I feel like I'm left in the dark. If I receive it, I have to call her to pass on the alerts and she feels like I'm checking up on her or keeping tabs which is contrary to the goal of creating financial harmony within the family.

So please if you may, enable budget alerts for two phone numbers per household.

I absolutely agree with #2, #4 & #5, especially #4. I am trying to get Mint to meet all my budget needs, but I can't get one of my banks adding, so a manual input is crucial to track my budget.

1) Customizable categories
2) Rules Management (add,remove & modify)
3) Add a check box to apply a rule to all transactions instead of just going forward.
4) Manual transaction history w/ check against auto added items. After import of new items they are checked against current items to see if any duplicates appear. If any matches output into a report and let the user mark as duplicate or not.
5) The ability to print ( Is there a way currently that I am missing?)
6) Section to create custom printable & send able monthly reporting, where the user picks the variables and Mint generates the reports based on the users custom run date. This would allow users to setup custom reporting and dive down to the data the individual user cares about without creating another graphical web interface to view it. This may cause a problem as the user may not go to mint directly instead living off the reporting e-mails or txt msgs. Promotions and updates could be included in the reporting to get users interested in visiting the site. Of course any reporting should be stripped of personal information before sending and possibly add a feature to only list the translation cost, date and the category its in but, not the actual description for quick glance reporting.

Paperless is great but, its sometimes nice to print something when needed.

Here are some I'd like to see:

Transactions: Being able to delete a transaction from an account to remedy duplicate transactions (such as the bank posting a pending transaction and then the final transaction).

Accounts & Transactions: Being able to manually add transactions and a cash account for tracking cash spending.

Spending Trends: Have the timeline be able to control the date range for the pie chart.

Budgeting: I read a thread about envelope budgeting which was a great idea!

Ways to Save: After reviewing an offer to save with another credit card, etc, I'd like to be able to delete the offer if it doesn't apply. That way it makes new offers easier to locate and evaluate.

Thanks for asking.

Mint.com is 100% worthless to me unless it starts allowing manually entered transactions. I schedule my bills in advance of the real payment date (meaning I may enter it into Quicken TODAY but it gets withdrawn a WEEK from now). In the mean time, my local Quicken is more "accurate" than my online statements since it reflects my true available balance.

I'm staying a member for a few months (in the hopes this shows up)... but I'm not really using the service until then.

1) More Spending Trend information. Mint users I'm sure are data junkies so you can't have enough ways to look at the information.

I actually liked the old bar graphs by category. The new Spend Space isn't useful to me-- knowing what the Jonses are spending is less helpful than seeing what my cash flow month-to-month would be.

2) Brokerage accounts and aggregate investment tracking! Big task, I realize, but I'd be willing to pay for such a service.

3) Custom Categories-- not just labels.

4) More Notification options -- This is a great feature of mint and lets us pick up fraudulent use of our accounts. Examples: ...if there are more than x transactions my credit card in x days.

5) Anticipatory budgets/bills -- After a year of use, mint should be able to figure out what items are monthly bills, then add it to a future bills list.

These might have been mentioned earlier, I didn't read all 20 pages. The summary tab does a great job of giving a snap shot of how I'm doing at this exact moment. But, once the month rolls over, it's hard to reconstruct how it all went down. Here are a few suggestions that would really help me get the big picture over time:

Income/Expenditures: It'd be great if it was easy to see my total income vs total spent for the current month (and each of the past several months). This is different than my current asset vs current debt. Though, you could get there by showing the trend of the asset/debt relationship. Maybe on a cool graph?

Budget over time: How am I doing on my budget over time? Can I see if I've been within my budget over 3 months? 6 months? Overall and within specific categories? This is especially helpful for categories that vary a lot from month to month but you're hoping are evening out over time.

Savings: I'd like to be able to budget savings and also have savings reflected on my spending trends.

Thank you! I really appreciate all the work you have done. I've used your savings offers to find a new credit card (so hopefully you got some income off that!). Even if you just kept what you have without breaking it, I'd be satisfied.

Mint is great! Its attractive interface has made me interested in managing my money again. That said, here are my five improvements:

1. Spending trends: The ability for the spending trends pie graph to show percentages against monthly income (entered manually) instead of percentages of total spending for that month. Seeing my spending as a percentage of my income matters as much (if not more) to me than the way the pie graph is displayed now.

2. Interface: Adding a budget tab that shows all my budget amounts at once, with a total (so I can compare against income)

3. Transactions: Faster way to rename and recategorize individual transactions

4. Categories: Add savings as a subcategory in the Financial/Investment Category

5. Further ways to look at/analyze savings and investments in addition to the current focus on spending

Mint is promising, but it has some problems with spending trends, as do most sites/programs like this:

1. All my spending is on my credit card. But the spending trends categorizes each of my credit card transactions AND then counts my paying of my credit card bill, thereby double-counting the expenditures.

2. A transfer from one bank account to another, even if told to be excluded from MINT is still referenced as a "purchase."

3. I'm not quite clear on how to customize the category headings in the spending summary.

I didn't have time to read them all, but I figure even if I repeat what someone else says, it may help in getting some changes.
First let me say Mint is really cool. I like the look of the site and it so far its easy to use.

So far that's all I can think of.

1. we should be able to customize the categories. this year one of my most significant budgetary issues and expense category will be paying for my wedding, and there is no place to stash those expenses.

2. i have a roommate and we split a lot of costs, and it is difficult to use the split feature and remove, for example, half of the grocery bills from my spending picture.

3. importing past transactions for new members to see how spending compares over the past year not just month.

I like Mint but it lacks some features I would like in order to use it fully. Here they are:

1. Obviously: Custom Categories. I know you want us to be able to compare what we spend in a category to what others spend, so having custom categories might make this difficult, but really its necessary in order to please us. So just do it already. :)

2. We really need to have some way of comparing our income to our spending. I'd like to be able to use mint to try and start actually saving some money!

3. You REALLY need to stop filling in our budget for us. Its fine if you want to initially, but I should be able to delete these initial budgets if I want! Its my mint, let me do with it what I please!

4. I think Mint does an excellent job of showing us information about transactions, but I have tons of transactions on a page and only two buttons for categorize. One is at the top, one at the bottom. To be honest the only thing I really have to do regularly is recategorize transactions, so it would be nice to have a button right on each transaction.

Edit: 5. I thought of another one which I think has already been mentioned but would be really nice. It would be excellent if you could break up a purchase over a certain time period. So for example I pay for domain hosting which is around $100 charge. I'd prefer this charge be broken up over 12 months in terms of my budgeting. Also it'd be great if under the Business Services category you had some "IT Costs" or "Website Charges" . Of course that could be fixed by just implementing my first recommendation!

That's all for now. But please, some of these are really nagging. I would hate to go back to Quicken!

1. Let us add our own categories for spending. In the absence of that, can't you add some more that better reflect people's spending? There's nothing for loans as opposed to credit cards, and plenty of people here have loans, I'm sure.

2. Split transactions. If I buy gas and cigarettes at a gas station, I'd like to be able to split the purchase.

3. Add a Cash account and let us enter our own transactions.

When adding a new account, why not allow the ability to manually enter the URL. It seems to me that the breakdown is between the link you have for the financial institution and the account itself.

The export/download transaction tool should include the category that you already assigned. I like the reports, but they are very general and standard, instead of building custom reports on the portal, give me the ability to download all the information and then do my own reports on excel. Overall, the site is great and I was able to introduce it to a couple of friends at work.
Thanks:)

1. Please add Canadian Banks so that I can use Mint too!!!
2. Help me organize my financial life (which not only includes banks and credit cards but also my investment accounts).
3. Let me identify my life goals and then suggest strategies how to achieve them. So for example one of the goals maybe to save $1million by the time I retire at 55yrs of age. You have my current saving details. Help me strategise how to get to the $1million mark.

I love the service so far, but here are my suggestions:

1. Add the ability to keep track of various rewards accounts, whether it be points and/or miles. (CapitalOne, Southwest Airlines, United Airlines, etc.)

2. I doubt you could do this, but it would be really cool if you could make transfers from within mint between your accounts.

3. Allow the user to set the log-out timeframe (i.e. 10 mins, 20 mins, 5 mins, etc.)

4. Others have said it, but just to add more options to the category menu.

That's it! Keep up the good work!

Some people don't have just 1 source of income. For instance I have paycheck, income from people that rent rooms in my house, stock investment dividends, when I cash out on CD/Bonds etc.

Would be nice to be able to do similar things as is done in the spending trends. So maybe make another tab called income trends. For some people this would be boring, others it might be very diverse.

Would at least be useful for me.

I would like to be able to use Mint and drop M$ Money, but I would really really need these features to be able to do that
1) Add future transactions so I can see and plan around cash flow issues between paychecks.
2) Add recurring transactions that automatically show up as manual entries in the transaction register x days before the schedule date.
3) Add a running balance for accounts (so that I can see the balance each day
4) (Required for 1 & 2) Add the ability to reconcile manually entered transactions against bank transactions.
5) See 1-4 :):)

1.) Get the budget working better. Each main top category should by default add up from the sub catagories plus what is what is not broke down in the main category OR be user set.

2.) OFFERS : I need decent offers to help you make some money. One offer of changing from a 5.99% APR with rewards to a 7.99% APR CC without rewards, does not do it for me. And 0% intro for 12 months will not save anything, but cost more, after the first year.

3.) Quirks of the site : You change the interest rate on things because it's wrong on almost everything, and then parts of the site still think you have only a %2 interest on Savings/Checking/Moneymarket for example.

4.) ACCOUNTS: Credit card points I thought only came with purchases, I'm showing points on your site with my interest on one account.

5.) Buget section again need a lot of work, it's the most powerful section of the website for people who use CC for everything. The section needs to be split, to your alert type budget category and each main category with an amount in it with subcategories indented in. And correct totals. All those doubles on the budget when you customize everything, sure make it look like I have a huge budget!

1. I'd really like to see the ability to Build a Budget and have each minor catagory add up to the total section-catagory. Currently it is very hard to work with. It should be a complete section/tab on top.

2. The ablity to set different notice amounts for different accounts so that my savings that has a low % doesnt let me know when I have less than $200 but my real savings account does.

Thanks for your hard work, love the site

I think it would make mint.com even more a success if you provided a calendar which would allow you to view your due dates for credit card, utility, and other monthly payments, as well as your paychecks, and bank transfers. I guess you could just add this to a personal calendar, but it would be great if it were part of the website here too.

read some entries, but can't get through them all so if I'm repeating, sorry!

1. Zecco! Free trading can't be beaten.
2. Car loans (I know many have mentioned this one)
3. A more (what I like to call) gaussian approach to budgeting. e.g. I budget $200 for vacationing per month. Then twice a year I might spend $600 on a vacation. So I'm not over my budget. Or same can be said for my electronics budget, so I can budget for big ticket items. Maybe an option to view some categories as quarterly or yearly would be cool.
4. Custom categories
5. The Chase transactions for my Checking account appends my transactions with M P (which stands for Mileage Plus). So then these are not recognized and categorized by Mint. Maybe you can find a way to set it up to ignore those first characters. I'm sure there are many Mileage Plus accounts!

1. Zecco

I agree with the need for zecco for all us web savvy money savers/investors. I was thrilled to find out I could include my etrade account. If I could see both through mint that would be fantastic.

Zecco: 10 Free stock trades a month.
Etrade: No fee mutual funds.

Using both is a beautiful thing. Seeing both through mint would be even better. (My heart still aches about citizens bank issues though)

2. Custom Categories

3, 4, 5. The progress has been great so far. I like the fact that my ING Direct pending transaction issues were fixed recently, and the inclusion of investment accounts happened way faster than I expected.

2) Income vs. Expense Line Graph (like yodlee)

Regarding post by Dugas:
"Budgeting with good reports... Ability to create month end, monthly to date, quarterly, or yearly reports against amounts assigned to each category."

If there is a way to go back and see how I did with budgets in February 2008, I would love to know how.

If not, reports from previous monthly (or more complex as Dugas suggested) would be a prime feature for improvement.

In the trend.event (https://wwws.mint.com/trend.event) section you can see your spending profile for items such as Food and Dining, and Mortgage/Rent. Only debits are included in the trend analysis, and this is reporting invalid numbers for my profile.

I am requesting the inclusion of credits along with debits for the net value of these trends.

For example in I have a debit of $2000 categorized as Mortgage/Rent paid to my landlord. But my roomate paid me a credit of $1000 which I categorized under Mortage/Rent. The current analysis presents (-$2000) instead of the realistic (-$1000) that my Mint spending profile should reflect.

If you have any questions please let me know. Thank you for your time!

I may not get to 5, but there are some things I'd like to see:

1. Export Mint data to Excel to work with it. I'd love to be able to pull data about my spending into Excel so that I can incorporate it into my budget and compare planned/actual.

2. Categorization: Being able to categorize my transactions for viewing by budget. I have everyday transactions and big-budget transactions that may fall into the same purchase category but I want to see them differently. For example, a new X-Box controller would fall into Electronics, as would the new Flat-screen TV, but the controller comes out of my every-day shopping budget and the TV comes from my long-term budget (i.e., I don't want to see it thrown in w/ my monthly trending).

3. Create my own categories.

bosska
03-04-2008, 09:24 AM
Spending Trends: Printable.
Spending Trends: Customizable output and/or additional reports.
Spending Trends: When looking at the pie graph, ability to click a category that takes you to that list of transactions. Example: I have $300 of No-Category transactions, I click that category next to the pie and it takes me to the transactions page and only displays transactions in that category. Or, I want to see exactly what purchases are under Shopping. (Since Shopping is some what ambiguous)

Great product. Thanks.

2) Cash Account (This is far more intuitive than splitting atm withdrawals)
3) Ability to account for shared expenses (Paid for dinner on credit, friend paid me cash)
4) Allow pie chart analysis of expenses by week. (Right now month is lowest interval)

These are the 4 things that have compelled me to goto Buxfer for the moment. But if you add them, I guarantee I'll be back. Mint has a much more enjoyable interface than anything out there, and the animated pie chart rocks! Keep up the good work, I look forward to coming back.

ACH items and bill pay items always seemed to get lumped into the same or similar merchants. I have to admit that you all have come a long way in helping us with these types of items by extending the information available for renaming (and auto-renaming).

The one thing I would like to see is the ability to rename the merchant based on not only the name but the cost as well, this would allow folks to rename those re-occuring ACH or bill pay items where the cost stays the same (or perhaps you could have a range).

If Merchant name is "Check With Imageinclearing CHECK" and value == $150.00 (or value > 125 < 175) Rename Merchant to "Cleaning Service". It might even be helpful to have a date selector to say that if this transaction happens between the 10th and 15th of the month, and has values between 125 and 175, and the name matches, then rename.

Then you could recategorize "Cleaning Service" to be a "Home Service".

I would love if the pie chart could somehow account for returned purchases. If it could just show the purchases and returns in the listing of transactions, and show the net amount spent in the pie, it would be perfect.

Please, please add student loan accounts soon! My overview looks really bad cuz I'm putting alot of money into my student loans :(

Also on the budget, I would like to be able to delete the default categories - for example I have no restaurant-specific budget, just an overall food and dining, but I can't take off the restaurant one.

Ability to change transaction dates! It is very annoying and disruptive to budgeting when end-of-month debit/credit purchases show up at the beginning of the following month.

I know the dates are sourced from the financial institutions, but we should be able to change them to fit our needs!

The 'Try Again' button needs to change its current functionality. If I click on 'Try Again', I expect it to try to update again. Not make me re-enter all my sign-up information again. And if I hit 'Cancel' then my account is removed. This is silly. I shouldn't be able to remove an account that has transactions that easily.

I'd like to use Mint instead of MS Money (and before that Quicken) and the one thing that I miss most (so far - 2 weeks) is not being able to customize the data that I export. I need to run certain custom exports by date range (and sometimes by category, or payee). Also and more importantly (for me to stop using MS Money or Quicken) is that the data exported is incomplete (original payee name not there etc.).

Along the same lines as exporting data, there are very few (none at all?) printing options?

In my mind, a personal financial tool should have at least rudimentary ways of exporting and printing. Currently, you can only export all of your data and the original payee is not there.

Ultimately, I would love to use Mint as my only financial tracking solution but I need to export data/reports for my own use and to provide to my accountant.

Apart from that I am extremely impressed with Mint and love the simplicity, beauty, user-friendliness and multi-platformness (IE, Safari etc) of the interface. 5 thumbs up my friends! I'm ready to buy mint stocks...

1) Categories: Put the "Cash & ATM" and "Check" subcategories under the "Transfer" category. I have no idea why it's under the "No Category" category, but it's deceiving when viewing the pie chart!

2) Custom categories.

3) More summary stuff. People have mentioned some good stuff in this thread like "networth" "networth +/-: month/year/etc"

4) Allow for ampersand (&) and other symbols in labels. Perhaps I'm just a perfectionist, but I much prefer "AT&T" to "ATT"!

5) Allow account labels to be used instead of your conventional name of the account in alerts. Not a big fan of seeing "! Your bill for 'Bank of America - WA & ID (Credit Card only)' is due in 3 days." - especially since I have two of them :P

I bet I'll be able to come up with a lot more later - but so far this is great!

Accounts - more accounts like mortgage and auto loans
Transactions - ability to import transactions from a file
Categories - ability to create custom categories
Goals - this is a cool feature in Wesabe. I think you guys need it too.
Goals categories for savings accounts - it would be useful to have a way where you can mark deposits into your savings account according to your goals. For instance, vacation and emergency fund would be helpful.

Most of these have probably been mentioned but I'd like to include my own current viewpoints:

1) Ability to name accounts... my wife and I both have accounts at Chase and it would be nice to be able to name them so that we dont just see 2 Chase credit cards on our dashboard.

2) A Backup button to create an entire file that contains all data with an ability to export this data to CSV format.

3) Ability to view transactions or net worth to any date range that the user specifices... right now its only for one year.

4) Dashboard UI customization. Give me the option to change colors, condense the accounts for a shorter view since its hard to scroll on small screens.

5) Support for stocks/mutual funds! I know its mentioned all over the place but its essential enough to bring it up again and again. A quick and simple solution would be a portfolio section that is already available on dozens of financial sites (Morningstar, Google Finance, Yahoo Finance, etc.) where you enter your own transactions. This way its not a truly automated process but allows people to see their total net worth in one place. Its only a temporary solution until you have a more true tracking of investment accounts.

Still a great start to personal finance in web 2.0 land!

I think this is already a feature. You can set "rules" to automatically name incoming transactions when you are in the Rename screen for the transaction. It will highlight the terms from the transaction that it's using to identify the item. Hope that helps.

It's been mentioned before, but I wanted to second the idea of a "Cash Account." I would love to be able to treat my ATM withdraws as moving funds into a cash account on which I could then manually enter transactions.

Currently, I use transaction splitting to approximate the above functionality; however, two issues keep it from meeting all my needs. First, all split transactions assume the same date as the original transaction. Not a large problem, but it throws off the accuracy of monthly budgeting. The second issue is more of an edge case, at least for me, but still bothersome. Oftentimes when my wife and I settle a bill at a restaurant in cash, we use some from my wallet and some from hers. Using transaction splitting, it appears that we went to the restaurant twice (frequently on different dates because of issue 1). With cash accounts, we could more closely show that she paid the bill and that I transferred money from my cash account to hers.

2) Ability to see spending trends per account, instead of for all accounts we have registered.

3) Ability to customize alerts to a specific or at least more diverse balances, like low account balance. $200 is kind of high for my account, would like to have an alert sent to me when it hits $50.

I think a good way to improve the budgeting feature and to give it power similar to envelope budgeting and/or cash flow forecast would be to include two verticle bars, one that represents monthly budgeted income and another that represents real balance plus upcoming scheduled income. Then connect these verticle bars to the horizontal budget bars by z lines, so you can visually see the effect each budget catagory has on lowering the income, both budgeted and real. And also include the ability to see out past one month in the budget feature.

My top two use cases in this product are 1) review spending breakdown for past periods (last month, previous month) and 2) correct categorization errors in last month transactions.

Therefore, I have two related requests:
1) Make it easier (one click) to select a month from the timeline. The button for current month is nice but I really am more interested in what I spent in the last month, or in a month previous to last month. Moving the little month markers on the timeline is a pain.

2) I usually use the pie chart area to identify possible categorization errors. When I want to drill into the transactions to fix errors it takes me away from the analysis area. Then when I have corrected the error (creating a rule or whatever) I need to go back to the analysis view and slog through selecting the last month on the timeline and drilling back into the pie chart to get back to where I was. This is also a huge pain.

It seems to me that a great deal of the value for me in this tool is the ability for the system to automatically categorize transactions. Categorization is far better and easier than desktop Quicken which I used to use long ago, however I still have to spend too much time correcting errors and as noted above it is annoying and a pain to select the last month, drill down, and then switch to the transaction view and then back to analysis. Make that easier and I'll stick around for awhile.

Thanks,
Todd

I know I already submitted a couple but here's a few more:

1) I find that when I update from my work computer/home computer, it doesn't stick when I access it from the other one - for example I might update while at work, but when I go home it's like that never happened.

2)I would also like to see the "try again" button not make me re-enter all my login details (unless of course the login is the part that's failing)

3) Many users requested to have credit card payments show up on the pie chart, and I think this should either be a separate pie chart or something that the user can turn off or on. Personally, I do my original spending on the credit card, so if I also saw the credit card payment, then my pie chart would be twice as big and have essentially duplicate information.

4) Please have the spending trends pie chart default to "this month" instead of "all time" - it takes longer to load and I usually want to see "this month" more often than "all time".

Seconding a few suggestions I have already seen:

- Ability to add your own spending categories
- Cash Accounts with manual transaction entry available

Also, I would like to see a button to flag a "buyers remorse" transaction, that is - to track all the things you're buying that you would like to cut down on for your budget.

Second, I would really like an account balance column along transactions. I know the data is updated sporadically and this data may not be included in the stream you pull from the banks but if it could be calculated based on transactions that would be FANTASTIC.

Just signed up for Mint .. Obviously, I've been missing out! Anyway, here are my thoughts so far for the pie in the sky!

1) Bill Payment - I suppose the next jumbo leap for Mint could be a feature to allow users to pay bills through the accounts that are linked to Mint. I'm not sure how all the 3rd party affliates would feel about that, but it would make mint another step closer to being truly a one stop shop for money management.

2) Accounts - Adding accounts beyond that of credit cards and banks would be very helpful. Many many people have mentioned it before, but it makes a world of sense.

I pretty much agree with all the other great suggestions that have been giving. Keep it up Mint :)
