1) Display income as part of the budget. Additionally it would be nice to see some sort of visual comparison of spending vs. income for the month.
2) Intelligent sorting and grouping of the categories on the budget screen; subcategories (e.g. Clothes & Accessories) should be displayed hierarchically under their parent categories (e.g., Shopping), with subtotals for each group. This feature could be togglable, to switch between the current flat display and a hierarchical display.
I'm also looking forward to entering loans (mortgage, student, and auto for me). Nice work on the site thus far!

This is a great service. I tried wesabe but it was unreliable at updating my transactions. I would like to have the ability to add a custom category to transactions, for example, cost of goods sold, for business expenses. Maybe you could add a secondary user-defined category in addition to standard categories, which I could then display or hide on my mint pages.
I use quickbooks pro 2007 for my business, mainly for invoicing.

I need access to all of my finances in one place. Your interface is one of the best I've seen but it is not very useful to me without:
1. Bills - cell phone, landlines, utilities, etc. - including minimum due, due date and balance. Niceties would be interest rate and credit limit.
2. Loans - Mortgage, car payment, student loans etc. including due dates, minimum and balance.
3. 401K, 403B and HSA/FSA accounts.
4. Auto and Life insurance payments.
5. More control on alerts, graphing and categories.
Thanks for good work

Budget tool: Allow the removal of all categories
Budget tool: Allow sub categories so not everything is additive. Read below
my main gripe is that on the front page with the budget tool that I can't specify a main category as a budget then break it down to subcategories.
Example if i put food and dining at 300. I would also like to break down my food into fast food 50, restraunts 100 etc
That way I only care about my overall food budget, but I could have a fast breakdown of my spending on that page.

1.) Support for Firefox 3 (still in beta) and Safari 3 (full release)
2.) User defined spending categories
3.) Download account history > 1 month or an import feature
4.) Color code different accounts in the Transactions tab
5.) Remove unused categories from Budget window on the Overview tab

1) Ability to manually add transactions for credit cards not supported
2) Ability to either change the dates of transactions OR change the start and end date of a month. I may pay a bill on 3/31 but I want it to be part of April's transactions/budget.
3) Ability to show historical budget vs actual results (I may just take screen shots for now).
4) Allow the creation of an annual budget
5) Allow the creation of personal categories

1. e-Bills - Ability to receive the actual statements from the billers.
2. Greater selection of categories. Ie. Home Security System from user inputs so we can compare with other users versus we entering our own categories. Split Utilities - > Electric, Gas/Oil, Water & Sewer.
3. Auto Loans/Mortgage loans
5. Cash Acct/Petty Cash to manually add transactions.
6. Savings Offers to specific areas. ie. I do not have Time Warner on my area. I only am able to choose between Comcast or Dish/DirecTV. My next town over can choose RCN. More in-depth in plan selection, one example is I have DirecTV and i have their best plan, it keeps telling me Comcast will save 700 dollars a year. But that is the standard plan, maybe an option where we can select the specific plan we have.
7. Setup Personal Goals.
8. Track Income on Trends from diff areas, Paycheck, Interest, Bonus.
9. IRA/Brokerage Accts
10. CD Accts (Maybe we manually input them), maybe then offers can be recommended at other banks/cu.

Ledger: ability to manually enter future transactions so that you can see your actual balance.
As someone who chronically bounces checks or overspends my bank account, I need a feature that allows me to enter the money I've spent that day, or a check that I've written that may not be cashed for a week, and see a balance that reflects those future transactions.
I'm not sure how in demand this is, as I didn't see anyone else recommend it on this thread - maybe people have some other way they track this effectively, but so far, I've not seen it, except on the Quicken Online demo...
I love your site (I've tried Wesabe and was disappointed) but I have to be able to track my daily spending and checks in the mail in the same tool that I track my accounts.
Thank you!

I've actually seen this requested a number of times & don't know if there is an easy fix. The primary reason is that you have an issue of settled vs. unsettled transactions; this would balance eventually.

Damon,
I wonder if it could be a separate applet perhaps on the Transaction page but above or below the transaction list. It would simply take the current account balance and allow the user to enter their current spending in line items, and calculate a running total. Exactly like I'm supposed to do in my checkbook, but never do.
Then, as accounts are electronically updated and charges posted in the transactions lists, if there is a dollar amount match from the ledger it would simply be deleted. Heck, I'd even be glad to delete them from the ledger manually as they electronically appear on my transaction list.
I think this is what the Quicken one that I saw does. This keeps the entries on the part of the user (in the ledger) separate from the electronic ones being uploaded from the bank. That way there is no need to build some sort of complicated reconciliation tool.

What would it take to get a Category for Cigarettes and Alcohol. I am a smoker who would like to see what I spend a month in smokes.
How about the ability to log in to a specific account from Mint's overview page?

Hi jockeyjoc,
"What would it take to get a Category for Cigarettes and Alcohol. I am a smoker who would like to see what I spend a month in smokes."
This will probably be solved when we look at putting labels into spending trends (work in progress).
Hi mjsmith,
"Any chance we could get a graph of our income vs. expenses for a given month?"
My personal take is that this will be solved as we get more account types in the system.

1. Budget: Need a full section devoted to budgeting, with projected income and expenditures for the year. If this were robust I would gladly pay for the service.
2. Categories: Custom categories, or more extensive category selection.
3. Transactions: memorized split transactions, especially paychecks. Several transactions are deducted out of my paycheck before deposit of the net amount.
4. Transactions: better handling of transfers between accounts.
5. Transactions: manual import for unsupported banks, or manual entry of transactions.
In general I like Mint so far. I hope you resolve these limitations creatively and become my go-to website for finances instead of Quicken.

Budgeting: Until I can delete the default categories I don't think I'll really use the budgeting feature as it's hard to get a grasp on it with all the clutter. Some of the defaults don't apply to me so it's hard to get a good picture of what I'm actually trying to budget for with them in the way.
Transactions: It would be great to have some sort of way to see "new" transactions that have been added since the last time I visited because often Mint gets the business names/categories wrong so I have to go through and fix those myself which isn't a big deal but I'd just like to be able to quickly see which transactions I need to double-check.
Transactions: Custom categories
Trends: More "locations" options to compare to (e.g. Nashville, TN :))

Okay, so I've emailed in some of these changes and even posted a separate post about the account linking idea, but my top 5 are:
1)Add an account -linking feature, so that my husband's account and mine could be linked for certain categories (utilities, groceries, mortgage, household spending). This feature still allows the autonomy of two sets of spending, but can incorporate multiple household members. Think of the possibilities... teens/college students could have their spending linked to their parents accounts. If you add this feature, I would include a "hide this account from the family" feature so that privacy could be ensured.
2)It would be great to have a debt reduction tool in place. I joined mint because I was way over my head in consumer debt, plus student loans, mortgage, and a car loan. I would love to be able to track my progress. For example, I love how Mint shows me my debt ratio, but it would be nice to see how much debt I've removed since joining or to track debt over the long term (I'm imagining a bar chart feature in trends.) It would be helpful to know that my debt was at an all time high in Dec. 05, a low in March 08, etc
3) Show reduction of debt as a percentage of the big pie. I would love to know if I'm hitting my target of allocating x% of my income to debt reduction. Currently, I just calculate this in excel or something.
4) If not custom categories, then at least expand the layers below the big categories -- public transportation, tolls under auto; garden under household, bars under food. Add a present category since gifts which is what I use seems to be organized around charitable giving.
5) Add a tax deductible check box by the transactions. I use the label category, but it would be nice to be able to "run a report."

Two disclaimers for this post, I have never used Mint and I work in computer security.
The reason I haven't signed up for Mint is that you don't support OpenID, I disagree with the posting about it being too difficult. This is from someone who has convinced a wide range of people to use OpenID almost all of them non-technical. I've got too many logins as it is.
You should take a look at Vidoop, they are doing a lot to make logins more secure and are working toward a way to monetize the login process. Its definitely worth a look.
Having multiple people with access to one account would be very useful for me. My wife and I have separate passwords to all of our sites whenever possible.
The other areas that would be useful for me are supporting brokerages, prosper, mortgages and sharebuilder. I have tried Yodlee in the past but had an issue with one of my ShareBuilder accounts, it was a joint account that Yodlee loaded twice.

Just join a couple of minutes ago after a friend recommended me to take a look to mint.com. Amazing job guys! So simple and so useful. I bought MS Money long time ago and it has been there sitting in my laptop for too many months. Mint.com is just faster and simpler.
Ok. So my top 5 suggestions are:
1. Custom Categories. This was a little bit dissapointing. Specially because there is no "Metro/Subway" category and I do spend my money regularly in that type of transportation.
2. Selecting Account Tool. My wife and I have both corporate credit cards and we would love to be able to sometime de-select our corporate credit cards from our MINT account so our summary is only personal expenses. We get reimbursed by our employers for our corporate expenses but right now those expenses are distorting our trend summary. It would be great to be able to select or de-select accounts without having to erase them from the account. This feature should be relatively easy to program given that you already have something very similar (e.g. erase the account).
3. Group Accounts. If you were able to have #2. Then the next feature to have would be able to group accounts. That way I can group my accounts (bank, credit cards and investment), my wife's accounts and my corporate accounts. Then I would be able to see a summary for each of the different groups. This would also be an excellent feature for people that have their own company. The current solution for this is to have different MINT accounts (one for me, one for my wife, and one for the corporate accounts). There is two problems with this. The first is that I have an Amex that is Corporate and another Amex that is Personal. That complicates a little bit that solutions. The second problems is that you can't see all the accounts summary in one.
4. It would be great to be able to upload all the info from Money. I know that in my case it doesn't matter because i didn't have much but there are some people (e.g. my brother) that would love to be able to upload all his information from MS Money to MINT.
5. The last one is something that is not that urgent but hopefully you would have it in the future. Assets and Debt trackers. Yes, I know... it is too tough... it is just difficult to be able to add a student loan, or a mortgage, or a house... but it would be so useful if you were able to do it. And please! reinvent this feature, don't take the feature that MS Money has... it is not worth it. You were already able to make the other parts of MS Money so much easier... I know expect you are going to do the same for tracking Assets and Debts.
One last thing... Thank you!
"How about the ability to log in to a specific account from Mint's overview page?"
Not sure I follow. Can you expand?
Yeah, say I have 3 accounts on the Mint overview page: AMEX, ING, and Chase. For some reason I want to visit the ING site. Instead of having to log into the ING's site time and time again, it would be great if Mint linked me there and automatically logged me in. I think Yodlee has this feature...

Guys - this is a great tool. Have been using now for about 30-days and it's really starting to look good.
Suggestions.
1) Ability to add pending payments. I use a web-bill payment function and would like to be able to "project" or see the impact of these future transactions. Same applies to checks as I still write a couple of these each month.
2) Categoreis, I know this is out there a lot, but the ability to have a WORK - category. Sub-category reimbursed and unreimbursed. Lastly under work my wife is a nurse and I have ran across Continuing education and license fees.
Again - throughly enjoy and have been a local Mintamonial. From my reading you really are working on implementing features that users request!

1. Custom categories, sorry if it's redundant. I think the categories listing should offer the option to add custom sub-categories to each category, and also an option to add a totally new category with custom sub-categories. That would give me better control of how things appear on the spending trend reports, assuming it wouldn't be too difficult to adapt the reports to seamlessly show the new categories alongside the standard categories. I don't see how this would be difficult to implement at all, of course I haven't seen the programming behind how everything works.
2. I would like the overview to include a box showing total income this month - expenses, and then total saved (or over spent). (I saw it on Quicken, and thought it was pretty cool to see so clearly how much I'm saving or spending).
3. Option to decline savings offers, I don't mind spending a little bit extra each month for blockbuster because I get free in-store exchanges. Maybe declined offers can just fade into the background (the way it does when there's no offers) that way it's apparent to me looking at the overview screen whether or not I've seen that offer already. And they "declined" offers should still be around in case you I change my mind and decide to get it.
4. "How do you compare?" charts don't seem to be working for me. I've added my accounts, and yet the "Bank Account Earnings" chart says I'm earning 0.00% interest. And the Credit Card Interest Rate chart shows my interest rate as "?". Although the gas spending chart seems to be working fine. You should fix those, I can provide a screenshot if you'd like.
5. Credit Card billing dates. I always forget when my credit card bills are due, I'd like to see the next billing date for each of my credit cards next to the name of the card on the Overview page. Perhaps make it red if it has not been paid, green if it has.
And one last small suggestion, add a "Year to date" option for the spending trends.
This site is great! I love it already :)

User generated categories.
Investment tracking - IRA, 401(k), etc.
Savings component. My automatic savings is always just linked as a transfer but I'd love to be able to see a piece of my pie chart as "savings" rather than have to label it as such.

I just noticed that even Social Security checks are showing as pending. When are you going to take care of this problem. I have 7 transaction that are showing as "pending" and that is a major problem for me and others like me. I know this is a free service, but if we are going to use this service it should reflect the real transactions to be able to use it for budgeting etc. Any response from the Administrator of this service will be appreciated. The main reason I use Mint is for budgeting. The quick budget set-up is what made me stay at Mint.com
The graphical display for monthly budget and expenses is great.
My suggestions for improvement are:
1. Budget: I would like to see a dedicated page for budgeting, with income and expenditures reconciliation.
2. Categories: Custom categories. It doesn’t matter how difficult it is to program, this feature alone would separate Mint from most financial software.
3. Budget: I would like to view previous months budget with expense summary.
4. Advertising: I think it would be OK to have banner ads or other low-key advertising to pay for the site if the current method does not provide enough funding. I have seen paid sites that show advertisements.
5. Overview Page: The ability to control this page like a custom home page by adding, subtracting, and arranging content.
duplicating others, i know, but just to stress what I'd really like:
1. personalized categories. The first thing I'd do is separate out groceries from other types of food spending. Then I'd need cats like "biz phone" "biz rent" and a bunch of other not universal.
2. a cash account. I want to put in and categorize my cash expenditures

I don't have five things, just one: support for CSV import. Not because I would enjoy manually importing my transactions more than having Mint do it for me automatically, but because I bank at a small regional credit union, and it may be a while before Mint supports them (yes, I have done the searches, following all the tips, and subsequently filed a request for Mint to support them).
All my credit card and investment/retirement accounts are supported, but without the bank transactions, Mint is a whole lot less useful. In fact, I don't use it much at all, even though I see the potential (which is probably why I don't have four more things I'd like to see changed).
I know automatic import is a key element of Mint's usability, and I too love it, but when it's not possible, manual import makes the difference between Mint being useful or not.
I hope you'll consider adding this feature to tide folks like me over until you can get automatic import working with our accounts.
Regards,
-myk

1. Ability to store History. As of the moment data is only going back a few months
2. Import: .csv, Money or Quicken data
3. Reports searches based on categories, summary income/expenses on a custom date range
4. Showing Due dates on Credit cards accounts
5. Bill pay? link up with billeo.com?
6. Update the Special offers area (as i understand that is how you guys make $$), but solve issues w/ the APR, cash back & show offer for not only 1 but multiple institutions of the same type (i.e. if showing savings on a Checking account, show other options apart from the highest savings because service levels are sometimes different)
FYI. I think you guys have a great product as a 'beta' version.

I think my 5 might be different from many others:
1. APIs, I would love to use mint as a way to do some deep analysis into my accounts. Mint has all kinds of great data (im talking about just my accounts) It would be great to be able to extract that information in a meaningful way to me.
2. Since #1 isn't going to happen, what would be really clever is to have an interface where I can run my own analysis and reports. Something like an Excel spreadsheet that would allow me to import data and manipulate it. I have had other personal finance software and their standard reporting tools leave a lot to be desired.
2. Track my Paycheck (there are 401k transactions, health care and most importantly taxes).
3. Track my investments. I bet you are already working on this.
4. I would like to have a tax tab where it could tell me about how much I owe, how much I have already paid, predicted amounts for end of year... This gets very important when making investment decisions.

Budget: Custom amounts. Why the limited slider? Sure it's pretty but the levels may not reflect how I use my poor boy / rich punk account. Why not a text box(es)?
Budget: If Cash/ATM is a category, why can't I make a budget for it? This is super important. I want to know if I'm avoiding other budgets by simply hitting the ATM too hard
Alerts: Make them more granular. I might need to know about a budget getting lower in one account than in another. I could care less if my savings has a balance of $20. But if my checking falls under $2,000 I'm misbehaving badly.
Transactions: Dig deeper. I can pull up the past several months of transactions on firsttechcu.com, and I'm not talking about archived PDF copies. So why can't I tell Mint to go further back? The impact is, as a new Mint user, I don't fully realize the analytical potential of this service, since I have a very limited set of data to start working with. A month or less of starting data is kind of annoying to try and work with.
Transactions: I'm going to raise my hand here on custom categories as well. For instance, part of my rent check is paying for storage; I can't effectively split my categories to reflect that. So what I pay in rent is currently mis-represented, simple because there's no appropriate category for storage. So I abstractly say, that's rent.
As an aside, I find the verbage of "ways to save" to be a little oily. Just tell your consumers it's an "offer". A lot of the best functionality in Mint is the fact that it lets me see where my money is going. So when I see that section I think, yay! They're going to analyze my trends somehow. But instead I get an offer for a particular product.
Now if it's genuinely polling the other institutions that fit my demographic somehow, then, ok, I might say that's a way to save. And to be useful it would have to take into account where I am, and what I'm eligible for. A little heuristics would also be helpful, in the way of, if this didn't interest me, why not? because these other products may also not be for me.
If this is a company buying your support on your site, to say, hey go check these nice folks out, that's sly. And as a consumer, I don't appreciate sly. Especially when we're handling my fanances. :-)

Delete/Hide Feature: If the duplication issue cannot be fixed, then a delete/hide feature is imperative--without it, Mint simply becomes inaccurate.
Income Tools: I'd like to track and see my different income streams just like I do for my expenses. I have a full-time job plus run two home-businesses and would like to see how much is coming in from each.
Track Cash: The ability to enter cash transactions (expense and income). Definitely a cash category for the budget tool.
More Customizable Alerts: I'd like to be able to set specific notifications for each account. Some of my accounts tend to ride under $100; others should be larger. I would like to differentiate the two. Maybe also have an alert for credit used as a percentage. For example, I'd like to be notified if my Citibank card has used more than 75% of its credit limit.
Import Data: I'd like to upload earlier statements from my accounts, rather than have to 'start fresh' with data from this year alone.

My suggested feature is to fix the issues with adding Sovereign Bank accounts.
First and foremost: Thanks to the mint team for providing a great service! Nobody's perfect, alas, so here's my list of desired changes:
(1) Fix issues with missing and duplicate transactions, e.g., by allowing me to manually add and delete transactions.
(2) Cash and income: Track cash expenditures and income(s) in the same way as expenses. (Income is already registered to some extent, but not analyzed. Cash income and purchases could be added by manual entries.)
(3) More flexible budgets: Some budgets (e.g., traveling, taxes, big purchases) make more sense for yearly or 3-monthly periods than on a monthly basis. Similarly, allow to roll-over unused budgets into consecutive months.
(4) Visual analysis tools: The pie chart in Trends is pretty useless. Instead, I'd like to track expenses in various categories over flexible periods of time. (For instance, how did my spending on bills/car/shopping develop over the past n months?) A simple line graph (different trend lines for different categories) would do the trick.
(5) Analyze and visualize income vs. expenses over flexible periods of time. (This is really a combination of points 2 and 4.)
While points (2) to (5) would add nice features, fixing (1) is crucial, as it limits the (enormous) potential of mint as a finance tool. Cheers,
h

While I disagree about the spending pie chart being useless (I love that I can drill through expense categories! :D), I do love the idea of a line graph. It's brilliant, then we could have a spending history chart, a simple line graph with a line for each of the main categories showing how much we spent in each category over the past however many months we want (12 sounds good to me). Bonus points if we can click a line to "drill down" to the sub-categories, and then click again to "drill down" to merchants exactly the same way we do with the pie chart.

4. Make the interface a little more intuitive. When I click on a category (or some icon near the actual category) bring up a window that lists categories. When I click on an icon near the name, bring up a window asking what to rename the transaction as. Maybe that little magnifying glass can serve as that little icon.
5. I want more flexibility with my budget. I want different low balance alerts for each account and the ability to create my own budget.
5.1 I want to track my budget with graphs and charts besides just that single pie chart.
I love the Mint interface! Very simple and easy to read.

1. Custom categories: Enough said
2. Future transactions: Manually enter a transaction and then have the opportunity to reconcile it to the automatic transactions once it goes through. Some transactions take a considerable amount of time to process and so the current report is not an accurate reflection of the account.
3. Reconciliation: I want to mark transactions that I've reconciled with receipts, statements, etc.. I want to be able to identify any transactions that are unaccounted for. I know this can be done with labels but a simple checkbox would be much cleaner.
4. Income versus spending: How much am I saving/losing every month?
5. Extended monthly spending reporting: How about just a basic list of average monthly spending for all categories? If this is already available, let me know. I couldn't figure out how to get a view like this.
1. Calendar view that summarizes spending/income by week. For example, we try to transfer excess cash to a high-interest rate savings account, however if I see that in the next week of a month, we usually outspend our income, I will keep extra cash on hand to cover bills without transfering money back.
2. Be able to specify which accounts contribute to the "Cash vs Debt" metric on the overview page. I was able to add an IRA account to "Assets" which is valid, but it throws off the "Cash" number.
3. A Budgetting page where I can set up budgets and compare to spending over various time periods.
4. I would like Mint to review the categories again. Sometimes I find it awkward to categorize an expense. For example, a new printer for the computer is a "Shopping-Electronics", but since it is for the Home system, I want it in "Home Improvements".
Oh, BTW, I don't want Mint to allow individual Category editting. I find comparisons to city, state, US spending to be very useful and it would be meaningless if people used unique categories. Suggestion #4 above is getting at more reliable comparisons by tying spending more to its intended use and not just "Shopping"
Otherwise, I think Mint.com is a great resource. Keep up the good work.

If the Mint team ever considers adding this feature, please add security measures with it. Otherwise it would provide a convenient way for a criminal to rob all my bank accounts at once.
If that feature is ever added, please make sure I can "opt-out" - one of my FAVORITE things about Mint is that it is a READ-ONLY service - I don't have to worry about it telling my bank what to do! Maybe Mint could offer a separate type of account that could be linked, for those who want it?
If I can't opt out, and I can't select having "Read-only" status, I can't feel comfortable using Mint. Security features are not enough.
Right now, I only feel like someone could see where I have accounts and how much they are worth. If someone can take action through Mint, I'm not comfortable having this information on the internet. I would have to go back to something based on my own computer, like MS Money.

I would like to change your sign up process. I have spent hours researching the many online options offered us now in the financial tracking arena, chose Mint, and signed up prepared to input my most personal financial information and I can get NOWHERE! I click the "click to add any bank" which has a curser but it does not respond, I try to contact and it will not let me in. After all my research I am so disallusioned. I can't even get to step one and had to join this forum to even ask for help.
About to go elsewhere and put in my two cents to let others know.
I am really frustrated!
How often does your system fail like this?

I was going to say something like that, but I was trying to be compromising. I would definitely prefer to be able to opt-out of allowing Mint to make transactions between accounts.

Most of these have already been mentioned, but "the squeaky wheel" and all that... :)
Recurring / forecasted transactions
Yes, there are issues with matching forecasted transactions with downloaded transactions. There have also been suggestions on how to tackle those issues.
This would allow for a "cash flow" report. I currently have my recurring bills in Excel with a chart showing how much "spending money" I should have. The chart also shows my lowest balance in the future, so even if I have an extra $150 this paycheck, I can easily see that I'll drop to only $50 next paycheck and I know not to spend the other $100.
Better categorization
Custom categories would eliminate the ability to compare my spending with other people; I realize this. Instead, I suggest adding a whole slew of categories to cover almost every situation imaginable. On your selection screen, show the five most used categories in each group with a list to see all categories in a given group.
Expanded account support
Loans / mortgages / student loans
Assets such as cars, houses
stocks / mutual funds / investments
IRA / 401k / retirement funds
account transfers / Petty Cash fund
I always transfer money from my main spending account to a secondary account and pay my rent from the secondary account. It would be nice if Mint could recognize the debit from one account as the corollary to the credit in the other account.
Transfers to a petty cash account should be excluded from reporting. Transactions from the petty cash account should be reported against. This would require support for manual transactions in the petty cash account.

Mint already does not include transactions categorized as "Transfers" (and also "Credit Card Payments") in Spending reports. Although when I first started using Mint it had mis-categorized some of my transfers and credit card payments, but ever since I set a categorization rule it's been working great. :)
Also, you asked for account renaming...you can already rename your accounts on the Accounts page, just click the "Edit" button for the account you want to rename.

One suggestion...
Have an opt-out for categories from spending trends. My spending trends graph is way off base because it includes my credit card bill, when that's already calculated in the individually categorized expenses.
This feature could also let me opt out of money transfers from my different accounts, which also skews my trends chart. thanks for this site! it's great and i love using it!

Whoa! I sure hope your PM isn't planning on implementing everything he/she reads on this forum thread. If you do, you might as well make a web version of Quicken or MS Money. The beauty of Mint is in its simplicity (ease-of-use) and gorgeous aesthetics (what a combo!). I've been using it for all of 5 minutes and I'm already in love. Granted EVERY USER will have some feature or other that they just MUST have. For example I couldn't find a way to exclude one or more transactions from the trends report (maybe it's there and I just can't find it); However Mint needs to continue developing NOT based on the feedback of all its users (contrary to what you may have been taught to do) but rather develop to the two or three "personas" (google it) you've established. I've been a PM for years and can describe from my own experience the long term adverse effects of "listening to the customer", to the exclusion of the market and the personas you've established. I wish Mint the best. I read about it in the WSJ and it sounded interesting, especially since I'm tired of using Quicken to do my budgeting and trend tracking (as I do my billpay from my online bank account). I HATE the fact that quicken isn't smart enough to auto-categorize my transactions (other than copying what I've done to prior same transactions, which I think is the killer feature that makes Mint so, well, minty. Also the comparison bar chart is great, as I can use it to track my spending against averages in my city. Well I could keep rambling, but I guess that's enough for now. KISS!

For example: I download all my bank transactions into an OFX or OFC file, and import them into Mint.
Seems easy enough. I can grab more transactions than Mint that way.

The ability to automatically save past budgets (per month). I would like to get an idea of where my over- and under-spending trends are in relationship to what I think they should be. Also, if I go over budget in one category for a previous month, I might want to reduce the budget for the current month by that overage amount.

I'd like an effective date, which I can use for trends and budget. So let's say I pay my mortgage on the 12th of May, but it is really against income from April. I should be able to effective date the transaction to April so it appears in that report.
I'd like to go to have the trends page remember my last settings. Furthermore, if I go to detailed transactions, I should be able to go back to where I left off on the trends.
I'd like to view trend reports for specific date ranges. So instead of Apr 1 to May 31, I'd like to do Apr 5 to Apr 10.
I'd like to be able to purge older transactions. To this end, I'd also like a date range for searches, and I'd like the transaction page to remember my earlier date setting, so that whenever I open it, it brings back transactions from the early date setting (lower bound) to current.

New user here and I really like the idea, minor issue getting my Credit Union on-line but I'm sure you guys are scrambling to link up with all the financial institutes which is a very big job. However, the whole concept only appeals to me when I can link all my financial accounts. So, I'll use Mint as a beta user for now and continue to rely on Qicken for all my data.
I see the list of improvements has pretty much what I would ask for, with the exception of printing. At year end, I do need to print the list of transactions for my accountant. I see I can import a .crv file and do it that way but I'm sure the good people at Mint can provide a print feature that is elegant.
Thanks, Pat

1: I would like to be able to click and drag my accounts on the My Accounts section so I can rearrange the order.
2: I'd also like to be able to create a rule on categorizing something based on title and on dollar amount in the transactions section. (ie. I transfer money to someone else each month for the mortgage payment, but at other times I transfer money for groceries or other things. If I could put a rule on the transfers based on title and amount then I wouldn't have to categorize every months mortgage payment).
3: Can't wait for the student loans and mortgages to be included! :)
4: It'd be pretty cool if the different account types were background color coded. A small color difference would make it easier at a glance to differentiate between bank accounts, cc's, and investments. This could also be cool if you used a slightly different color for debits versus credits in the transactions section.
5: It would also be cool if on the ways to save section you could hide or remove offers once you've reviewed them and either decided to use them or not.
Keep up the amazing work! And thanks so much for making such a quality web 2.0 product! :D

1. don't jettison all my login info for an account when login fails for some reason. if i change a password for an account, i will need to update it here and i don't need to do the whole thing all over again, too. OR if the bank or whatever asks for new/different security questions, for example.
2. allow at least limited manual entry of debt or credit -- it will do, for example, until certain account types can't be added (student loans) or when there's trouble with a particular bank (see the stuff around citi). but i'd like to be able to see it with the other stuff as part of the Big Picture, even if i'm having to update the numbers manually, and even if i'm not tracking payments or debits or whatever.
3. add items to a category or otherwise modify categories, instead of just adding tags.

I have many of my monthly expenses (gym membership, commuter pass, TAXES, disability insurance, etc.) automatically deducted from my paycheck. They're categorized there in exactly the same way as my credit card and checking account transactions, and represent a big part of my monthly expenses. The company that handles it is ADP, and I notice when I do my taxes that TurboTax has no problem going to ADP and downloading all this information into my tax return. It would be great if Mint could do the same thing. Any chance?

I can think of two things:
1. I can see some wanting to be able to add or customize categories.
2. At the end of the day, the whole point of monitoring money/trends is to maintain budgets and/or accomplish financial goals. So for me, the biggest thing would be to add more budgeting features and/or goal setting. Namely, I like the budget widget on the overview page, but it is only for the current month; being able to choose a different month or have YTD info etc. would be nice.

I'm looking for a thread on support for mortgages. I would like to be able to set mine up - automatically via download, or manually is fine too. The tool should allow me to input a few simple items such as rate, loan amount, down payment, and start date. It should have an easy method for dealing with ARM adjustments as time goes by. It should also allow me to pull in or manually input estimated values in order to gauge equity.

The biggest thing that I want to see is a bill calendar. That is the one thing that keeps me going back to Microsoft Money. I can put in my bills and it lets me know when they are due and automatically coincides with the ones I have paid and not paid. I can't wait for Mint to be able to do that.

1) General-sometimes my mortgage goes through on the first and sometimes it goes through on the 29th if that happens in the same month it really messes up my trends. One month it looks like I spent nothing and the next I go way over. Is there a way to assign a transaction to a month?
2) Overview-Fix rounding issue. I have a category that is currently at 310 total transactions but shows up as 320 on my budget
3) Investing-hope you get this working soon that would be a dream!
4) Update- could my accounts update in the overview screen so I don't have to get reverted back to the accounts page. It would be nice to look at my budget while waiting instead of the accounts
5) Transactions: Annualized option (option to mark 6-month insurance payment to spread over 6 months for "monthly spending" report so it doesn't look like you're over-budget just because you made your semi-annual pmt that month)-this was from another user but I think it is crucial
Keep up the great work. This is amazing and I will definitely be sticking with you guys through all of your improvements

I have to say that overall I'm impressed with mint. It does 80% of what I'd like a personal finance product to do, and it looks great while it does it! While there are a number of things I'd like to see, here's my list of the 5 biggest things that would make mint closer to a "perfect" product for me:
1. Support for manual accounts
I have some accounts (personal loans, student loans, car loans, cash accounts, etc.) that either don't have online connectivity or aren't supported by mint. If I could create those accounts and then either hand key in my transactions and/or have the ability to import data (csv, ofx, xls, etc.) that would be wonderful.
2. Support for manual transaction entry
It would be very useful to be able to manually enter in transactions, either into the manual accounts I mentioned above or just to enter in transactions that haven't posted to my accounts that do connect to mint.
3. Keep splits shown as one transaction
Right now if I split a transaction between multiple categories it's being shown as two separate line items. It would be more helpful if the original amount of the transaction was shown and then when you select it you can see the detail of the split. Since the statement from my financial institution will show the original amount and not the splits, having them on separate line items makes it more difficult to reconcile.
4. Showing Check Numbers
If a check is downloaded from my bank into mint it shows at "Check 791". If I change the Merchant name to reflect who I wrote the check to, the check number isn't visible on the list of transactions.
5. Reports
Having some canned reports available to print out for historical purposes would be great. The ability to create our own custom reports would be even better.

My wife is a smoker. She purchases cigarettes at just about every convenience store that also sells gas. Each $4.00 transaction gets categorized as "GAS/FUEL" as a result. My tracking is off for both categories.
Allowing a user to create a rule for each category would allow for the proper classification of the charges.
My idea:
If purchase is less than [user specified threshold] in [user defined category] then recategorize the purchase into [user rule specified category] and flag it as such.
I'm sure you could resolve this faster than I can get her to stop smoking. I've been suggesting that for years.

Hi Damon,
I only started using Mint a few weeks ago, but here are my initial top 5 (in no particular order):
1. Transactions: Ability to add categories, plus the ability to edit all data (Merchant name, category, split, etc) from main page.
2. Overview: Spreadsheet-type output of budgets, where I can select multiple months to review and print.
3. Transactions: Because I have both checking and savings accounts included in my transactions, a transfer of $ to a savings account shows up twice--as a payment out of my checking account and as a payment to the savings account. I would like to see the overall balance of my savings accounts included in my overview, but I'd like to be able to exclude them from the transactions view.
4. Transactions: I'd like to see my payroll deductions (insurance premiums and other company benefits that automatically come out of my pay) accounted for as categorized transactions.
5. Transactions: Ability to add more history from my accounts. I know it's available online through my individual accounts, but when I opened my Mint account each vendor had a different range of data coming into Mint.
6. Transactions: Ability to change the "accrued" date of a transaction, so that it accurately reflects which month the transaction should actually be posted to. This is for transactions that, for whatever reason, end up being posted in a different month from when they were actually accrued.
Bonus Big One: Accurate calculations! I'm finding inaccuracies on both my budget alerts and trends. Budget alerts show that I'm over by $X when the category is actually under limit. Trend charts don't seem to accurately calculate transactions. For example, I noticed on my "Gifts" category that all five entries for a month were simply being added, when 3 were debits (payments out) and 2 were credits (refunds). This, in turn reflected that I'd spent far more on the category than I actually had. It's impossible to effectively use Mint's service if I'm not getting an accurate reflection of my finances!
OK, I know I cheated and there are really 7 here, but they're all really important! It was too "Sophie's Choice" to have to pare it down to 5. =)

Transactions: Ability to manually upload OFX files.
Transactions: A petty cash account for cash or other transactions to be manually entered.
Categories: Tracking for public transit. More people are using public transportation as gas prices rise, and it would be nice to track that specifically.
Accounts: Some banks (not credit unions) in Alaska would be nice.

There needs to be a way to track income as well as spending. For a given month or other time period, I should be able to see the "bottom line", in other words, income minus expenditures equals net gain. I previously used Quicken, and it did this very well (in fact it was prominently displayed on the main summary screen). I really like what I've seen so far with Mint, but if there is no way to easily track income and show the net gain or loss for a time period, then I will have to go back to Quicken or find something else. If there's another way to do this currently, I would much appreciate any suggestions.

1. Let us put in custom categories! (beer, clubs, video games, etc. - Each person has some sort of weekly thing there money goes to)
2. In the Trends area, let us remove categories from the graph. My mortgage will always be HUGE, and thats a fixed monthly chunk of my money. What I really want to track is where my variable spending is, and the graph looks out of proportion if I cant get that mortgage part out of there.
3. In the transactions tab, instead of having to double click a transaction to move it to a different category, how about having a side bar on the left that show the categories as either folders or movable type of labels that we can drag and drop and it'll change it for us. This would be a lot of faster, and if the first thing i suggested is done, then this gives total control and easy mobility and functionality to organize your spending more accurately. I'm just to lazy to recategorize everything by clicking on them one at a time.
Thanks guys! Good product so far... awesome if you get those 3 things incorporated.

1. Mortgage and School Loan Accounts. I see you're working on this. I would love to track these.
2. Custom Charts and Reports. It would be great if I could easily create a chart or report that allowed me to track specific data. i.e. Cash Flow, Net Worth, Variable Spending. It would also be nice if I could designate what accounts to include in these custom reports. I have multiple bank and credit card accounts. Some are mine, some are my wifes, and some are joint. I'd like the ability to view spending trends seperatly to pinpoint spending patterns.

As a product manager, I've struggled with web 1.0 forums to make the development backlog transparent to the community and to give users more control over the development priorities. Last month, I finally gave up on forums...
The idea's platform was made available for purchase earlier this year http://www.salesforce.com/products/ideas/. It is based largely on a tool Salesforce deployed to allow its community to submit, comment on, and vote for ideas. My company started using it last month by enrolling 100 early adopters and users that frequently make great suggestions. It costs a few thousand dollars a year, but community engagement and satisfaction is going through the roof. It has also become much, much easier to manage and prioritize our development backlog.
Thanks for soliciting suggestions. I hope this helps you.

It would be great to get a few more months of old transactions. Most of my accounts support at least three months and I would love to have transactions from the beginning of the year.

I have only one recommendation: MANUAL TRANSACTIONS!!! I have only used the web site for a few days, but I immediately became aware of the inability to input manual transactions. While I use my credit and bank cards alot, I still do take out cash. Having my ATM transactions populate is only partially helpful (I can see whether I am taking out too much cash in general, for instance, or paying too much in ATM fees), but there is no way yo track cash transactions, and that is a serious limitation of the software. I have a Excel spreasheet at home that I use to track expenses, and this has the functionality of adding in whatever type of transaction I want. I should be able to remove ATM cash transactions and replace them with other manual transactions if I so choose. Whether I am reconciling each and every alst dollar is not the biggest priority, but that I at least at reflecting the reality of spending my cash on a day to day basis. And until Mint.com does this I don't see how it is much better than my Excel spreadsheet (other than updating the bank transactions automatically, which is a huge time saver)...

Actually, if you withdraw cash from the ATM. You CAN manually SPLIT those transactions. Splitting a transaction allows you to separate one single transaction into several different transactions, each would have it's own name, category and amount. Meaning, if you withdraw $40 from your ATM, and then spend $5 at McDonald's, you can use the "Split" feature to separate the $5 you spent at McDonald's into it's own transaction.
To split a transaction, just select the transaction from the list, and then click the "Split" button (next to Rename & Categorize"), then you can enter the name, category, and amount to be split from the total (and click the "Split" button next to the amount to split a transaction as many times as you want). Whatever is left will still be listed as the original transaction.

It would be fantastic if your accounts could permanently remember the security questions, usernames, and passwords you assigned to them. Frequently mint is buggy and need you to "Try again" which then prompts you to enter in all your security questions, username, and password again. With 11 accounts added and many many questions, its really annoying guessing which questions I chose some 5 years ago.

adding a mortgage feature would provide a meaningful balance sheet. I'd like to see my net worth on mint.com. The investment features are great! Adding mortgages (and other types of debt)would make it complete.
I know I'm not the first to request this. What is the timing of the upgrade to include this? Thanks.

My biggest concerns at the moment are the following:
1) Transfers between accounts show up twice so my transactions and overviews are all wonky.
2) My automatic transactions are not adding up properly and categories that are either on/under budget keep getting flagged as over budget. This is really frustrating because when I see the alert, my reaction is that someone hacked into my accounts when the issue is mathematics not identity theft.
Other than the two points above, I love the site and so do my friends.
Thanks.

I'm impressed! I've used Quicken for years. I know this is still in development, but WOW! It's easy to use and provides rich features.
What I'd like most:
the ability to exclude particular transactions and accounts from reports; and
the ability to include mortgages and loan accounts.
Also, perhaps it's there but I haven't yet found it: Is it possible to create a report that shows category transaction detail and summary? I see the pie chart, but not the ability to see the categorized summary and detail.
That's all I see right now, after a very quick skimming of the product. I appreciate being able to customize field names and add notes.
Truly amazing!

You can drill down on the pie chart to see more detailed information(just click a slice!), and at any point you can click the "Search Expenses" button under the pie chart to see the list of transactions that are currently shown on the pie chart. How's that for a categorized summary and detail? :)

the three features I would really like to see are
1) Have a bar graph showing account levels so we can see our monthly cash flow to see if over time an account is trending up or down.
2) custom categories
3) import csv from banks not on your list

Accounts: Please give the ability to create custom accounts with manual entry.
You could even not allow manual entry on linked accounts to ensure that they remain balanced but please allow manual entry on un-linked custom accounts.
ADVANTAGES:
1. Us control freaks who use MS Money / Quicken can kick them to the curb and track our CASH payments manually.
2. People can track personal loans and other assets like rental security deposits etc.
3. Any time anybody complains: "Wah! You don't support my Banko-de-la-turd-bowl 403(b) account!!" You can say: "Thank you for the feedback, we're working on it! **In the meantime, you can track it manually if you like!**"
DISADVANTAGES
1. More coding for your engineers...
Has a decision been made about this, has it been ruled out as beyond the scope of what mint is going to do? Is it on the way? I *really* want to switch but just can't until this feature appears...
THANK YOU!

Why does everyone keep saying splits? Unless this was added since they posted, you can split a transaction. Check its box, then click "Split" and voila!
1. Transactions: System should automatically categorize a CC payment from your bank account to your CC account (if the CC count is included in your Mint transactions) as "Exclude from Mint." Otherwise, if I put $100 from Target on my CC, then pay the CC bill from my bank account, it looks like I spent $200--that makes it fairly cumbersome to use.
2. Transactions: Better accuracy in naming transactions. It comes through on my bank statement as something like "Scott's Store" (groceries) then appears on Mint as "Scott's Paving and Sealing," a home expense. This also makes hinders the site's ability to be helpful.
3. Transactions: I agree that custom categories are a must. Or create a "Miscelaneous" (or both). I can use No Category as miscelaneous, but then it doesn't show up in my budget and I want it to.
4. Faster - I know the system is doing a lot and pulling from various sites, so it's understandably slow. Any enhancements you can make to speed though would be extremely helpful.
5. Accuracy - I have spent about $200 in one category (and it's categorized correctly) and $0 appears in that category's budget.
Other than those rather huge issues, it's a powerful tool with ability to revolutionize personal finance (no sarcasm included)!

I've just started playing with Mint (and running it in conjunction with for-pay Quicken.com right now) and the one thing I'd really, really vote for is the ability for me to add in my upcoming transactions. Specifically, for like when I write a check. I want it shown that the money is gone from my account IMMEDIATELY and not after the check has cleared.
And yes, some of us still do use checks for things.

People still use paper checks? Really? LOL.
Add income tracking. I've been playing with Quicken Online, and they have a nice, simple "I've earned - I've spent = I've saved" display. It's something I've been wanting for a while, and IMO it's the only feature they really have over you guys.
As an extension to #1, income tracking for individual accounts, so I could see how much I'm putting into savings, for example.
Can't wait for your investment account support!
Firefox 3 support. I keep running into fairly minor, but still annoying bugs that I think are due to Firefox 3.

1) Custom categories. Sometimes I get a hairbrained idea and want to see how much I am spending with certain groups of people -- girlfriends, boyfriends, family etc... I can categorize things as gifts or restaurants, but it doesn't let me see an amount I have spent on/with each group in the pie chart. I want to clarify that I completely understand I can 'do the math' myself, but I like the idea of being able to categorize and see an amount on Mint. I also understand I can LABEL these things, but I can't see them in the pie chart or print a report. Please correct me if I am wrong.
2) It would be helpful to color code or 'format code' (ie, bold face) incoming vs. outgoing transactions. I think this is the same thing people a referring to when they mention 'linking'. It gets confusing to me when I am looking at all of my account transactions by date. I have tried hard to train myself to look at the value and recognize the amounts in prenthesis are going out, but color or formatting would help me a lot.
3) A virtual account for special events our purposes is a really cool idea. (As it stands, I have renamed my saving account for this purpose.)
4) Allowing me to designate a payment that is coming out my checking account as a payment to my savings would help me see my savings and how it is growing. Right now I categorize it as an investment.
5) Reporting features would be a very cool added feature. Let me see how much I spent this month vs. last month, or saved for that matter.
I love this site, and it gives me more information in one place than I have ever had before. I tell everyone I can about it, and actually find myself using less cash so that my transactions will be recorded here. I understand that the customizing we are asking for makes your coding job a nightmare. I appreciate your efforts. Erin

What is going on with the budgeting tool rounding UP to the nearest $10 mark? I have just one transaction, an exact $500 transaction, in a budget and it tells me it's $510. Why would that even be rounded up? And all of my other categories are rounded up to the nearest $10 as well, which is not helpful. I find myself going to the transactions tab to look at "this month" to find the categories and use *those* totals to see how much I've actually spent. Please stop rounding so much.

The biggest thing that I want to see is a bill calendar. That is the one thing that keeps me going back to Microsoft Money. I can put in my bills and it lets me know when they are due and automatically coincides with the ones I have paid and not paid. I can't wait for Mint to be able to do that.
I agree. The #1 reason I continue to rely on Microsoft Money is for the bill calendar / tracking. I know mint tells me when certain credit card payments are due, but I have no idea when my electric, water, cable, student loan, etc, etc bills are due unless I open MS Money. This is a glaring deficiency and is keeping me from committing serious time to using Mint. Once you get a bill calendar -- the next thing you want to create is a cash flow forecast. That is the 2nd most useful tool I find in MS money. Since I keep as much money in high-rate savings accounts and as little as possible in checking, it's imperative to see a cash flow forecast, so I have sufficient funds to pay all my bills. Budgeting is low on my priority list, since I think it is more about how you spend your money in the real world, not how well some computer program tracks it for me.
Just my two cents. Kudos on the site design -- aesthetically it looks great. Just need to beef up its capabilities.

This isn't one of my top 5 suggestions BUT, the login for a guest is actually "mintfeedback" not "mintfeeedback" so the OP needs to be changed accordingly for very literal cut-and-paste persons such as myself!
I've been using Mint for about a week now and am enjoying myself thoroughly--it's a beautiful UI and fun to use. Just to reiterate what others have said, though, these are the issues which will eventually frustrate me to the point of closing my account, if they go unresolved for many more weeks:
#1: Transactions: I reeeeeally want to be able to custom-label my categories! Example: My addicted sig other spends $120/month on cigarettes and right now I have to call this Amusement because I can't think of a more appropriate name....
#2: Alerts: Showing me the same alerts every.single.time. I log in, when I've already "closed" them with the little x....is irritating.
#3: Overview: This rounding-up issue is the WORST for me. Example: I pay $942/month rent. And so every.single.time. I login, there's the alert--"You've gone over budget by $8!" because Overview is rounding the transaction up to $950--?!? Of course when I check in Transactions I'm not over budget at all. Or: I spend $10/month at Netflix, or with my ISP. Both categories are budgeted in for $10 but Overview says I'm $10 over, because it's rounding them up to $20 each?!??!
I agree strongly PPs who've said this makes the whole budget overview feature basically useless, for me anyway; I also agree that if it's a deliberate "feature" we have GOT to be able to turn it off in preferences! (Sorry for all the exclamation points, this one really makes me pull my hair out.)
#4: Not sure where: Bill pay. I have free bill pay through my bank and it would be sooooo nice to set that up here too, so I could budget for it!
#5: Not sure where: superdreamrequest: What if I could set budget goals for a whole chunk of time in advance? Six months, a year....I want to save for a washing machine. What if I could set that goal amount somehow in my savings account info and it would tell me how close I am to it right now? Something positive/constuctive as well as all this "you're over budget" negativity! ;)
#5b (I'm totally cheating): Transactions: What They Said.....specifically about income being in, say, green so I could eye it quicker (not just not in parentheses) or boldface or italics or something....even my bank does that....and my transfers to savings right now I'm having to call an "Investment" expense but again it's kind of negative-looking, like I'm hurling money away, when actually I'm *saving* it, and would like a nice pretty color and/or category for this too...maybe blue? And some sense of progress toward my goal, see above?
***
That's MY coding-nightmare list....thanks for all your hard work and vision thing--I'll def. stay tuned to see you move out of beta. (Oh and PS I may be anonymous but I am NOT a coward, I'm just too lazy to register, LOL)
1. Customizable Categories - I know this has been mentioned many times, but it's extremely annoying to me to have to mix in MY education expenditures with my kids' babysitting just because the category says "Kids & Education." This is a relatively simple change, and most of the other free sites offer it.
2. Investments Tracking - I see it's in the works. I'm waiting with bated breath. It should include portfolio tracking to reeeeally impress me.
3. Loan Tracking - Specifically, student loans. I can limp along with the "mortgage" category as an 'expense', but not having my student loans tracked makes my total assets and liabilities pretty skewed from reality.
4. Here's a more interesting one. I use a savings account both for emergencies and for saving up for things. I can track it here, but I have never seen a piece of financial software that effectively lets me use a 'Savings Tracker' - that is, allowing me to break the savings account into personal "subaccounts" for things like 'emergency fund', 'vacation', 'christmas', etc. and then parse the transactions (deposits into that account) out into the subaccounts and so forth. I would really use that.
5. you get the four above and I'll be a DEDICATED user. I love the interface. Keep it simple.
Joe
I love the idea of having drag and drop categorizing.
I couldn't agree more with this, especially the ability to manually adjust the estimated value of the real estate so that mint "sees" my equity.
Hi Damon,
I only started using Mint a few weeks ago, but here are my initial top 5 (in no particular order):
As for #4 above, if we were able to use customizable categories AND enter negatives and positives in the "split" screen, you could do a manual workaround for this using your pay stub.

1. Import from Quicken or other 3rd party Accouting Software.
2. Import from Turbo Tax.. Now that would be ideal... to be able to automatically categorize all your receipts and list them as they would appear or be placed into actual tax forms.. Yeah... but at least I can dream...
3. Have the option to open more than one Mint account - Business versus personal account. The personal account is quite understood by Mint folks, however, the business side of the coin would be a little more indepth. The business side would include importing from other payroll databas accounts, import from third party sources like WalMart's Buyer's database.
The business side would include several pie-charts to show different aspects of the business (capital spending pie-chart, employee cost pie-chart, different level of insurance pie-charts, etc).
The business side would include calcuations and projections for future expenses, or plans for future expenses. It would provide scenarios on how to accomplish these goals based upon all provided set of information.
4. Calculations for future monthly expenses. Calcualtions for future or deferred changes (e.g. loss of job, new Job, new salary, commission based, etc)... projections or suggestions on how to move pass the current situation to improving the future situations.
Mint could provide suggested guidance on how to improve or cut back on expenses.
Mint could provide an overall financial guidance based upon all data. The current financial situation be it good or bad.
Mint could provide links to the BBB for Credit counselors and their respective fees to help consumers with their financial checkbook.
5. From the investment side of things, Mint should be able to import 1099's from an investment firm. They should be able to pull in tax forms from the investment bank.
Mint should be able to provide Real estate portfolio guidance.
Mint should be able to compartmentalize investment folders. There are more catagories than simply "Investments".. expand this topic further.
Mint should break down Investment vehicles -- CDs, IRAs, SEPTA, etc...
Mint should break down maturity dates and alerts when they become due so they can be rolled over.
Mint should be able to break down expenses further. The business expense folder is too broad.
In closing, what I get now is a beatuiful and very helpful and easy product... I love to see my expenses, and to clarify my expenses.
The Wall Street Journal was right that Mint has a great thing going for it... I can see a larger company buying this company for the shear potential it brings to the table.
Hats off the Mint folks!
Sincerely,

I won't even try mint unless it imports my QIF file from MS Money.
I use a mac (yes I know, but I used a PC for 20 years first) and there is ONE piece of software I can't replace with something better - MS Money. If they offered Money for the Mac I would buy it for $300 if I could. Other forums web-wide are rife with complaints of no good finance software for macs, so I won't belabor that point. But, you just have to trust me that there is a solid market for a powerful financial application that is mac-compatible.
Better yet, if I could just manage my money on a platform-independent browser-based application, I would jump on that in a second. That way, if I ever do get rid of my mac (or my house burns down, or anything else), I can still get to my data. Mint is clearly trying to fill this role.
Problem is, of course, that from reading the forums (and I admit I haven't even tried Mint yet) that mint doesn't offer any way for me to import historical data and apparently doesn't offer me any way to back up that data to my own computer.
Look, it's not that I don't trust you guys to keep my data safe. But it's MY data - and I want to be able to hold it in my hand if I feel the need to. Likewise, I want to be able to upload my data to you. I would very happily pay $10/month for a web-based financial management application that could REPLACE MS Money, but you would have to pay ME $25/hour to start using this software because I would literally have to burn something like 100 hours manually transcribing data from MS Money to mint - or I would have to hire a temp to do it for me - and then there would be errors.
Like I said before, the mac market is wide open. There are thousands like me searching for something that can do what MS Money can do. In fact, I now use my mac for everything I do - except my personal finance. For that, I have a windows laptop in my desk drawer that gets pulled out once a week to enter receipts and import QIFs from my bank.
In fact, if you get import/export of QIFs working and I make the switch to mint, I will mail you my laptop with a thank you card - because I won't need it anymore.
By the way, Quicken online does not work on a mac - they use Active X - a windows "feature".
How about adding a line or bar graph that shows total income vs total expenditures on a monthly basis? I used to create something like this manually and found it useful to monitor my monthly cash flow.

Well, you are correct in saying that Mint does not allow you to import financial data at this time. (You actually can't even enter it manually so you won't need to waste the time/money doing it yourself).
However, Mint does allow you to export your financial data in the csv format. There's a link to do so on the transactions page, at the bottom of the transactions list directly under the date column.

I am really enjoying mint! I have actually put alot of work into pulling all of my financial life together in one place.
Surely someone has asked you this already but here goes...it would be nice if on "trends" a default custom setting could be set up which would allow one to default on the initial display being the current month rather than all of history which is what I always get now. I always have to do the extra click for "current month"
Also, when I display the pie chart for current month ( or any particular month) then click on a category to display individual txns , then it would be nice to hit a "back" button to re-display the pie chart (trends) for the month I was working with. Now it just re-displays the pie chart for all time and I have to click the current month ( this just seems unnecessary to me) Thanks for a fantastic product!

You've probably realized this, but Mint isn't trying to replace MS Money or Quicken. Mint's philosophy, in my own parlance, is that the easiest way to measure the flow of a river is to just stick a gauge in and let it start measuring. Sure, it would be nice if I could start using Mint and immediately have access to a year's worth of data to analyze, but I'm just as happy having a tool that starts working quickly and easily and more importantly requires almost no maintenance.

Surely someone has asked you this already but here goes...it would be nice if on "trends" a default custom setting could be set up which would allow one to default on the initial display being the current month rather than all of history which is what I always get now. I always have to do the extra click for "current month".I think Mint is sorely lacking customizable options. It's funny to notice that on this Forum you have a ton of customization options but on the main site you have basically none. (The forum's built by someone else.)
Also, when I display the pie chart for current month ( or any particular month) then click on a category to display individual txns , then it would be nice to hit a "back" button to re-display the pie chart (trends) for the month I was working with. Now it just re-displays the pie chart for all time and I have to click the current month ( this just seems unnecessary to me) Thanks for a fantastic product!I get hit by that too. It's because you're going from a Flash animation to a web page and then back again; the Flash always starts at the beginning.
I think there's a bit of an interface design problem there, because in effect there's a button that does the same thing twice and something different third time. Clicking on a pie slice drills down; clicking on a slice of the new pie drills down again; clicking on one of those slices takes you to another web page. It makes sense (Category -> subcategory -> merchants -> list of transactions) but there should something on the final pie that lets you know that clicking on it will bring you to a list of transactions on a different page, particularly when you always have to start from the beginning on the Trends page.

1. Business expense and reimbursement
2. Custom Categories
3. Ability to specify number or people on mint account.
I am tracking two people's bank accounts in one mint account, so the "compare myself to others" data is incorrect. I should be able to compare myself to other couples, just as a family of four should be able to compare themselves to another family of four.

Trends - Track Income sources for ex. Social Security, Tax Return, Paycheck, Expense reimbursement, etc.
I love what you all have done with Mint it is a great source it is far superior to Quicken Online in every feature except you dont support my credit card account held at U.S. Bank nor do you support my Checking account advance account at U.S. Bank. I am surprised because you use the same login information and same site to retrieve this information.

1)Trends:
It would be useful to see not only spending habits, but also savings habits (over time). I don't just want to know where my money is going each month, I want to know if I have more money in the bank now than I did this time last week/month/year. Mint could make this easy, since it consolidates information from all my accounts.
Perhaps you could make a bar graph showing the same information we see in our overview (with each bar divided into different colors to show how much is from each account) spread out over weeks/months/years to help users visualize "big picture" trends affecting their financial health.
2)Overview:
Let me get rid of the default budgets that I don't use.
3-5)Keep up the good work.

2. Be able to change the name and the category of several transactions at the same time. I have like 20, with the same name and the same category that are wrong, I dont want to go one by one.
3. Be able to add my husband's personal checking account, without adding the Joint checking and repeading all the transactions.
4. Add bills and payees. See the upcoming payments in a calendar and add then to the budget ahead of payment.
5. Add an Assets to Liabilities chart. Graph the trends of your in's and out's. (Line and bar graph)

To give you my top 5:
1. More trends flexibility and detail; See spending trends by week/month/quarter/year/all time.
2. Income vs. spending comparison: see income compared to spending trend by week/month/quarter/year/all time.
3. Income categories: salary, interest, dividends, other, etc.
4. See return on investment for individual investments in the investments categories. (ROI by investment by week/month/quarter/ytd/ year and all time).
5. Customizable tables and graphs. I want to be able to chart all my data in various ways, with different chart types and date ranges.
Currently mint looks very simple and basic to me. I can see that changes are in the works and I'm willing to stick around to see how things turn out. However, I won't be sticking around too long I don't see constant progress.
The potential is there and you guy's are on the right track for now.

... of people who need a better way to track cash. We have lots of transactions based on cash received that's then used to purchase items. Without a way to track that, Mint leaves too big a hole in our budgeting/tracking. We won't be able to use Mint until we can track cash transactions -- not ATM transactions.
I'd like to be able to create reminders for upcoming transactions.
Being able to create them from previous transactions, and get an alert when the new transaction appears (like a bill paid) would be a bonus.

1. I am one of those users for whom the budget doesn't fill in at all - all categories appear to be $0. This is a big deal (the whole point I am using mint), so an ETA on the fix would be really good to have.
2. An option to see all transactions that are not going into one of the categories on my budget, to make sure that nothing is flying under the radar because of some categorization slipup.
3. The fun facts on the right side of the transactions column shows numbers for that vendor, which doesn't match the numbers in the main window if you've done a search by category. The numbers on the right should reflect the information pulled up in the main window.
4. You should be able to save a default location in the SpendSpace instead of having to put it in every time.
5. There should be a tab to manage income like you manage the debit transactions, like how much from where and in what category. And some tools to compare income to expenses.
Some others - You should be able to change the category on several different items at once without it changing all of the names to 'Multiple Merchants'. Also, you should be able to change the time frame for the budget to whatever your fiscal month (or year or week or whatever) is. You should also be able to change the date of a transaction to apply to the correct fiscal time frame. And custom categories would be ideal. I know that you have to keep it within a certain parameter or the comparison feature becomes useless, but maybe allowing custom SUBcategories would be a good compromise.

Accounts:
I agree with above, compatibility is key, but on the plus side some accounts are very simple. I would love to be able to manually enter an account. Enter the starting balance, interest rate, and any regular fees. Then go into my transaction and mark any transfers/payments into or out of this account (hopefully mint will then figure out when a new transfer posts that it is also in this category). But then Mint should be able to figure out my daily balance. For example my student loan company Nelnet is not supported, but if you know my starting balance, interest rate, and payments, then you can figure out my final balance. This would also help to double check the my creditors are being honest. This formula should work with mortgages, and any fixed rate savings accounts as well.
That's my only request.

It is such a hassle to split ATM transactions in order to track cash expenditures. Wesabe allows users to create a cash account in order to create cash transactions.
A way to edit the date. I prefer to know the date I spent the money versus the date the charge was posted. Wesabe also allows users to edit date.
Ability to customize categories. Wesabe uses tags which is ok, I would prefer customized categories.
I'm also frustrated with the bug which doesn't allow some of my split cash transactions to show up in trends. It is the reason I am giving Wesabe a trial run.
I would prefer staying with mint... and would love if these requests were acted upon quickly.
Thank you for listening.
I would LOVE to get away from Quicken entirely as I have found MANY "issues" with it. Mint seems, from the last 30 minutes of playing with it, to be user friendly but not necessarily customizable as I have read in previous posts.
Bill pay is a definite need and something that I would pay for, as I do quicken now. It is not worth my time and effort to have several tools for financial tracking. I know you said that you were not looking to "replace" quicken, but for it to be a truly useful tool it need to be comprehensive.
Thank you!

The pie chart in Trends is a nice idea, but it's pretty useless for analyzing trends. It's hard to compare pie charts between different periods of time, even if you did make the colors consistent.
The best new feature for me would be a variation of the SpendSpace bar graph that shows *all* expenses (not just a particular category) over time. Importantly, each bar in the graph should be split horizontally into colored parts to reflect how much I spent in each category (much like the current pie charts). This would make it easy to see at a glance how much I'm spending from month to month, which categories are dominating it, and whether any categories are varying significantly over time.
Bonus points if you draw a second vertical bar for each month that shows my income. That way I could easily see whether I'm outspending my income in any particular month.
If it's too visually complex for some users, you could have a checkbox to toggle the horizontal breakdown of categories in each bar, and another checkbox to toggle the income bars.
I would be an instant Mint addict if you added these features.
(I'd also like the ability to import my past Quicken data, but I understand if that's not technically feasible.)
Thanks!

OK, so I just started using Mint.com. I don't quite have 5 yet. But right off the bat, here is what I noticed:
TRENDS: It would be nice if I could isolate the trends of specific credit cards. Basically, it would be nice to be able to view the trends of my personal expenses and my business expenses separately. Since I use one credit card for business expenses, this would be easily achieved by ONLY viewing the trends from that credit card.
CATEGORY: This one seems to be a hot topic. I was actually surprised that Mint doesn't let me name my categories. It seems like it does, but it doesn't let me save my new category names. I would like to name the categories for my business expenses so that they correspond to the categories I have already established for my accounting.
TRENDS: This is another topic I have read about in the forums. Trends needs to be monthly. Seems obvious.
BILLS: Is it possible to include bills as a category? In other words, car insurance, cell phone bills, utilities, etc.
Almost five. Honestly, Mint.com is not much more than a novelty idea to me if the above changes are not implemented. Nevertheless, my hat goes off to you for a great idea. Hopefully, the powers that be will steer Mint in the right direction.

Please add a category for public transportation: those of us who live in big cities don't own cars but spend a lot of money on buses, trains, etc.
Under the cash/atm listing, it would be helpful to have a category of reimbursable expenses. I often have business expenses that are subsequently returned to me in cash.
Finally, and I know you are working on this, I look forward to using mint to track accounts in multiple countries and currencies--a helpful tool for expats like me.

1. The ability to manually add transactions. This is critical if you deal at all with cash.
2. The same Trends and Overview features for Income, in addition to the Spending features it has now.
3. Custom categories and/or a more granular breakdown of categories and/or the ability for Trends to do breakdowns based on Labels
4. Search Transactions by Date
5. Report on things like net worth increase/decrease over time, average monthly spending, average monthly income, etc.
I'm also anxiously anticipating the integration with brokerage/retirement accounts and loan/mortgage providers.

1) Ability to import ALL history from accounts automatically. I'd rather not have to import it myself, but for Citibank I could export all the info in a file. A way to import it would be great.
2) If not, a way to delete history so that you can have all info starting from the same date would be good too. Like my Citibank account only has transactions from the prior month and my credit cards have it from a couple months ago. I want my all time trends to be accurate.

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION CATEGORY: This was mentioned a few posts ago, but the anonymous poster was absolutely right. I don't own a car (nor do any of my friends) and for some of us a public transit budget is almost 1,000 a month. Not having that in its own category is frustrating and though I can make the the substitution in my head, (auto parts = public transit) if I did have a car that wouldn't work.
ANNUALIZATION: I give to a number of charities and some of them prefer annual or bi-annual contributions to monthly ones. I like it too because I get to keep the interest on my gift for that first year and give at the end of the tax year. This causes a problem in Mint budgets however because inevitably my December charity budget is always overspent.
BUDGET EXCEPTIONS: This could be another way to solve the above problem of annual vs. monthly expenses. My girlfriend went out of the country last month and my phone bill went up. I never use all of my minutes but because of these special circumstances, I ended up paying considerably more to my wireless provider than I normally do or what I normally budget. Now every time I log in to Mint there are big alerts at the top of the screen telling me that I've spent far more than I should have or than I normally do. I don't want to change my budget because my bill will go back to normal this month but at the same time I would like to not see the alerts every time I log in. I should be able to input a new allowance for that month (x+y) but once the special circumstances have gone, return the normal monthly budget to whatever value of x that I originally budgeted.
ACKNOWLEDGE WAYS TO SAVE: The same logic above goes for the "Your Ways to Save" section. My online savings account gives me 3.5% APY, but Mint doesn't know that. As a result I am forced to read about WaMu's 3.3% offer when I know it isn't as good as what I have. At least once a week I click on that money bag icon thinking that I'll have a new recommendation from Mint but it's always the same. I should be able to say "thanks for telling me, now go away" to these helpful tips, or I should be able to report to Mint that I'm getting a better deal already and recommend it to other users.
INVESTMENTS: Like many people, the majority of my money is invested. I know that Mint is really about managing liquid assets, but it would be nice to see all of my money in one go. I got an invitation to join the Investments Beta a month or so ago but when I logged in there was nothing. Did anyone else get that?
All my ranting aside, I have no point of comparison when it comes to Mint as I've never used any other money management tool. I really like it so far.

2. Customizable date ranges for budgeting and trends
3. Custom categories

Yes, please! All of these things will make Mint useful to me. For the most part, Mint is not yet useful -- except for the trends and comparisons, but I can't seem to import enough transaction history -- because it lacks the ability all my assets and liabilities of all types in one place. Then add the banking type features of Fidelity's mySmartCash (billpay by Checkfree, etc.)
Also, I got my first suggestion today to move my checking to HSBC, but the suggestion doesn't seem to be optimal. Wouldn't ING's Electric Orange be a considerably better idea? How does Mint decide the best savings opportunities for me?
Thanks! Coming right along. Adding investment accounts is a step in the right direction.

Only one thing on my mind: Investment portfolio tracking. MSN.com has an okay portfolio manager but I hate that it won't get transactions from the financial institution (they used to have that feature). I have an invesment manager and it would be great to see how he is doing with MINT. Something like investor.msn.com, but with automatic downloads from the institution. I use Schwab and Wells and would be willing to participate in testing if you need help with real-world data. One the most valuable things for me would be computing of the annualized return on each investment. Sometimes that turns out to be wildly large numbers, for example, if the stock moves quite a bit in a short amount of time. So it's not unusual to see a 2,000% annual return -- or a large decline sometimes. But it's the best way I know of measuring the real gain or loss.

First of all! I think you guys and gals are doing great job. Keep it up! Your site design and layout is superb.
To the things I would like tweaked:
1. Better customization on the rules - changing every transaction from the same store to the same category does not always work. How about being able to set a rule that allows for different options when the rule applies, i.e., when a transaction comes in with the street name and a bogus category.... allow rules that change that Merchant automatically as they do now, but also allow different categories to apply and maybe be questioned about them when you log in. E.g. Wal Mart purchases could fall into grocery, entertainment, clothing, etc categories. When logging in and there is a transaction from Wal mart, mint asks which of the predetermined categories should apply.
2. Tweaking the split function - I can only imagine a few instances where you would need to change the merchant on a transaction split, but more importantly is it to simply be able to split the purchase by category without creating separate transactions from the split. I could imagine a situation where an option allows a split to be split into separate transactions or simply split into categories, but the transaction stays the same. You should maybe be able to expand or hover over the transaction to see the split.
3 Indicating splits better - Somewhat related to the above point, but a critical point. When I currently split a transaction, nothing - as far as I an tell - indicates that it is part of a split transaction. There needs to be some way to reference what the original dollar amount was for in the split so when you reference it against a bank statement you can still identify what is going on.

1. The ability to track the income/expenses of my spouse for tax purposes, etc.
2. The ability to download data for use in a program such as TurboTax. This would be much appreciated around April!
3. The ability to customize categories would be a welcome addition
4. A reconcile feature so that I may check my accounts with my receipts
5. The ability to search for items that haven't been tagged

I love mint so far, just a few things I would like to see addressed.
1. I seem to lose transactions often, they appear on my bank statement but not mint, even if other transactions from that day came over.
2. As everyone else said, custom categories.
3. The ability to "factor into" a budget based on a bill. For example, if you have a rent transaction that is $800 but your current budget allots for $750, you should be able to update your budget based on the new transaction.
4. A section dedicated to monthly bills. Currently, I am doing this using label "Recurring costs". This allows me to see at a glance the totals for each bill that comes in.
5. Better budget view. The budget needs its own tab where changes/current state/info can be seen in detail.
Thanks for mint, I love it and hope to be able to continue using it to save myself from poverty.

I agree with many others on what to add and change, but for us, only one adjustment would make this work. Have tried Mint for not even a month and within a week, a big obstacle surfaced for us. I love the look and feel of Mint and will hang on a bit longer (or at least check in to see what adjustments might have been made), but really this won't work for us until...
Users can customize date ranges for budgets and trends. This is a must for our family as my husband gets paid at month's end, but it's our income for the next month, which is literally the very next day in most cases. Also, some bills are paid on that date, which end up being categorized in that month, but need to be in the month ahead. Maybe that's not the way to do budgeting, but that's how we do it and I need to have that flexibility to manage our budget through Mint.
Thanks.

Love the site. I'm going to roll all my suggestions up into one:
1-5: No Duplicates! I can live with random alerts, wrong over budget information, down time, less than perfect UI, and even not being able to access all my accounts. I can live with that because I know you'll fix 'em in the end. But data corruption -- even a little bit -- and I might stop using the site all together. :( So important to me.
For now, it looks like the auto ATM fee splitter feature is not removing the original transaction. So I see a $104 transaction and then a $100 transaction and a $4 transaction. Don't mind it doing that but please remove the first transaction.
And really, it's a bit scary that you guys even offered a remove duplicate check box... What other reason to add than then to work around a bug on your end? Ick. I hope once the bugs get worked out you guys remove that checkbox.
Overall I love the site! I hope I'm using it 10 years from now to manage all my finances! I told all my friends about it. Besides paytrust.com, mint.com is the only other site referral I've ever given!

1. Categorization needs to STAY once chosen.
Transactions seem to change their own categorization from time to time. This is particularly bad after I have manually set a transaction to "Business Services" and then a month later I look at it again and it has become "No Category".
A solution would be to make a flag for "manually categorized" or something for each transaction, and once a user has manually set the category, Mint will not change it automatically. Extending this, there should be a way to manually accept the categorization that Mint initially chose, so that it will not change randomly later.
This same argument could be made for naming.
2. Better Duplicate Transaction handling
First, a transaction that was posted normally in single form should never suddenly have a duplicate appear 8 months later! I expect transactions that I have reviewed months ago to stay as they are. Otherwise, Mint is changing history, as far as the records are concerned. This is really bad as far as accounting goes, because it looks like all of a sudden I paid double for a given expense! I see two options for this: (1) use a trailing 1, 2, or 3 month period so any transaction older than that will not be changed or added. (2) make a manual flag for each month that allows a user to "lock down" a month, or perhaps all history up to a certain time-think about it like balancing the checkbook at the end of the month. After you have resolved all transactions, you don't want history to change!
Second, I realize there is work being done in this area now, but so far the "Exclude from Mint" category and "Duplicate" flag have both failed for me, because they both reset to a different category or an unchecked state on some transactions. For others, they do appear to stick. This is frustrating when the actions don't behave the same for different transactions, and a complete killer for accounting if I cannot eliminate a duplicated charge from my records. If it looks like I spent $3,000 on a TV when I really spent $1,500, and I can't fix that, then the Trends view and my budgets are all skewed and lose all their value.
3. Rules Customization
This is a common enough request. More powerful rules would be incredible. I buy gas and get lunch at the same place (not as gross as it sounds, the gas station has a really nice deli attached to it :) ). If I could make a rule that says anything from this Amoco that is under $15 is a "Food and Dining" category, I would be ecstatic.
4. Ability to delete labels
I accidentally added a two-word label a long time ago when I was really trying to add multiple labels to a transaction at the same time. There's no way to remove that bogus label now.
---------------------
I'm going to mix it up here and mention a few popular requests that I don't think are all that important:
1. Better cash handling - just split your ATM withdrawals and name/categorize them however you want!
2. Better automatic categorization - this would be nice, but it's hard and the time would be much better spent on other things. Also, there are Rules that can help with this (although better rules would be very useful - see above ;) )
---------------------
Last, props!
1. Great job on adding the investment section and separating those account values from the cash value.

I didn't read through the thousands of posts to see if these were already noted, but here are a few simple concepts (assuming I'm not overlooking something)...
1. I would like to see more/better exporting capabilities. If I'm looking at the monthly trends, for example, I'd like to be able to easily export or print the specific data that I've drilled down to, right from that screen... And on the transactions screen I should be able to search by date (or even a month) and be able to export only that data. Right now, it appears that the only export feature requires you to export all associated transactions for a particular account.
2. When you're on the Trends tab and you drill down to a specified transaction (which may require multiple clicks), you can then view that transaction within the transactions tab, but there's no "go back" button that takes you back to what you were working on. Instead, you have to go back (via the browser back button) which requires you to start all over.
Thanks.

1-5: budgeting - 'other' category
I set up a bunch of categories for a budget, but some of my spending does not fit in those categories. I would like to see an "other" line that would show spending outside of the categories I've set.
Example: I think halfway through the month that I'm staying in budget because all my categories are in the green, however there is spending outside of those categories, from transactions not categorized etc. and in actuality I am spending too much too quickly for the month. should be as easy as subtracting total spent for the month in trends from the total spent in the marked budget categories, though I'm sure its more difficult...

1: Customizable Categories
The categories seem to have been created by someone who is Not Like Me. The entertainment choices are very limited. No place for yard/garden improvement. No place for Web hosting expenses, unless I throw that in with my ISP under Internet.
Right now I am putting horse feed under "pet food", riding lessons go under "education", and tack, show clothes, etc. are under "hobbies". Makes it hard to quantify that area of my life.
"Shopping" and its sub-categories don't make any sense to me Appropriate maybe for kids who hang out at the mall, who "shop" for fun. Seems like a catch-all for things that didn't have a place.
#2 Let me name and categorize things that haven't cleared yet. User story: I'm sitting here on a Sunday night looking at 9 transactions. My memory of what all they were is fresh in my mind. I have some receipts right here, and I have few free minutes. But I can't do anything with them.
#3 The "Cancel" button on the Search field: It doesn't make any sense when you're viewing all (why would I cancel the search I just entered - like clearing a form I just filled out). I'd remove it, in that situation. When showing filtered search results "Cancel" still isn't clear. If it means "show me all of my transactions, not just these from the search" then consider calling it "View All Transactions".
#4 What are labels for? Are they like tags? What can I do with them? Maybe there's some reporting I haven't discovered yet. I'd hope that I could label my pet food, education, and hobby expenses (above) as "Equestrian", then see what I'm spending in that area. If that kind of functionality is available, then my suggestion is to make it easier to find.
Well, OK, that's only 4 things. :-) You're doing a great job. Maybe you could tweet (on Twitter) more often. There's 5.

OK, here's another one: I just got a yellow warning exclamation point next to each of my accounts in the overview, and no hint of what it means. No ALT text, nothing at the bottom of the screen, an it's not clickable.
Suggestion: If you sound an alarm, tell me what it is I'm supposed to be alarmed about.

Pie chart colors. I'm a relatively "new" Mint user and over the course of the month the color of a particular category will change. If my first payment of the month is health care where I bought some band-aids it will come up in trends as green. But later in the month when I pay rent the largest part of the pie it will also be green. I would dedicate Orange as home every month regardless of how much of the pie it took up. It would get me into a better rhythm what I spent my money on at a glance. Thanks

1) Envelope style budgeting (Mvelopes I would give up my mvelopes membership if mint had this).
2) or .. allow the current budget to coincide with your paycheck period. Monthly budgeting (for me) is difficult to track when most of my budget items are bi-weekly.. I would like to see how much of a particular budget item I have left until the next paycheck.

It's been a while since I've had the time to check on the investment tool (for Vanguard, Schwab, or any type of investment account) and I noticed that the tool is still being built. Will there be any type of interface/tool out there soon?
Thanks.

In priority order:
1. Accounts: It's critical that the connection issues be resolved (e.g. USAA Credit Card) so that I can add all of my credit cards. We MUST have this capability.
2. Investments: It's STILL a work in progress. I'd love to see some type of link to my investments (e.g. Vanguard, Schwab, Fidelity) just so I could at least see the most recent transactions and percent growth. This is the other HALF for most people (Spending & Saving)!!
3. Categories: Add a few more similar to Quicken or allow the capability of adding your own (probably less feasible). Such as Education>Tuition, Supplies; Auto>Supplies; Finance & Investment>Savings; and broaden the Shopping category to include more.
You fix ONLY these THREE and it's as good as fixing 5!!

1. Reporting: Custom reports or extracts. Let me choose the fields that are important to me.
2. Dashboard. More flexibility to add and remove 'widget' style fields.
3. Debt reduction. I want to create a debt reduction plan and track my progress. I could do that on my own if their were custom reports or extracts.
4. Dashboard. Allow 'views' or 'widgets' to be made by user contributers that can plug in to the dashboard and make them available for other users (after they pass specification).
5. API. Would solve most of this. Let me get right at my data, use some of your great tools and allow contributers to help create bolt-on's. A model like salesforce or google maps.

When you hide a credit card from Mint, it still appears on the accounts page, along with a balance. I'd like the ability to completely hide it from Mint. Ideally, I should have to add the account from scratch in order to bring it back.
Thanks, and keep up the good work!

I just joined today, but in setting things up I discovered several things I would like to see.
1. When modifying the budget items it would be nice to be able to modify several different entries/categories at once. I had to click on a category to open the editor window, modify one number, save it, (the window then closes), click on another category to reopen the editor, etc. It would be nice if it could remember all the numbers you entered at once. Or at least make it so that the save button saves what you just entered but does not close the window so that you can modify another budget item. There could then be a "close" button to close the window.
2. In the transactions list have some kind of shortcut button on the entry line to modify the name and category of a transaction. It is cumbersome to select and then scroll to the top or bottom of the list to click the "Name & Categorize" button.
3. Have a budget category for debts, such as credit card balances or miscellaneous loans. Similarly it would be nice to have a budget category for savings, as I automatically transfer a set amount from my checking account to my savings account every month. I suppose this could go under "Finance & Investment" but I see it as something different. Both of the above could be solved by having customizable categories, which I see has been suggested a lot.
4. It would be nice to be able to see a pie chart of your budget to visually see where you have set up your money to go, and if that is how you would like your budget to be.
I only have 4 suggestions thus far. Maybe after I use the site more I can think up another one... Otherwise this looks like a great site that I am looking forward to using!

1) Need to be able to put in email reminders for bills that are only due every 6 months (like insurance) or the ability to spread this out over the 6 months so it's not over budget(preferably both)
2) Also need the reminder because insurance and auto loan accounts for USAA and VystarCu will not load with the rest of my accounts(savings and checking). So if possible- get those to load.
3)Be able to set account minimums on an account by account basis instead of $500 for all...
4)Need a Mad Money and Other incidentals categories for things outside of the original budgets....

1 I would like to see an annual budgeting option with the ability to print reports (others have mentioned this)
2 The ability to set up a privately held asset or debt that can be manually updated
3 Ability to enter note to myself - post-its, perhaps
4 Some more subcatagories -- i.e. Insurance is under health, I would also like to put in life insurance, home insurance, etc.
5 An automated Paycheck fill in that lets you put your gross, then deduct out the taxed, disabilty, etc.
Great start

I'm sure these have been mentioned somewhere in this thread. I would just like to add support for them.
1) Associating an asset (house, car) with it's corresponding loan, so as to get a more accurate net worth.
2) Allow for manual entry and updating of accounts. My primary bank is not supported, and according to the email I received from mint, it will probably not be supported in the future.
Other than that, I love the site!

I just lost months of data because I had to delete then re-add an account in order to get it to update. Since these were my core banking accounts, the loss of data affected everything else in the system. There was nothing that warned me that the data would be lost. Since most banks don't keep historical data very long, I think it's imperative that an archive or image of all accounts be kept for a period of time (ie, rolling 12 months) and that any account that is re-added be given the option of merging with the old data or deleting it.
I was on the verge of just shutting it all down!

1. If i hit backbutton in browser and then forward again, trend forgets what breakdown i was looking at. Some way for it to remember last state would be great.
2. The pie chart looks awesome as the pies change as i look at different time frames. Would be great if the colors were consistent... e.g. may-june orange=auto, then if i drag timeline to june-july, keep orange=auto rather than reallocate auto to a different color.

First off, you guys have put together an awesome site. As someone who used to work for the online division of a bank that rhymes with Smells Bargo, these are the features that we would have built if we were a small, smart company.
1. It is really annoying that my mortgage throws off my net worth so much. I would really like the option to leave it out of the net worth calculation.
2. CSS skinning? Maybe a blue mint option? Cinna-mint?
3. Mint.com t-shirts and hat?
4. I think five things are too many to make us think of.
5. A mint.com reality show?
Anyway, keep up the good work.

5. Dreamhost has a great feature that allows members to spend 5 points on a master list of desired improvements. When DH adds a desired improvement you get a point back to spend. This might be something to consider since you will always upgrade request and only so much time.
Good luck in taking down Quicken and Money - I will not miss them.

First off, I LOVE this site. Can't wait to see where you guys take it over the next couple of years. Thank you!
1. Virtual Savings Goals
Why do people use Mint? To get out of debt? Of course. To save more money? Yes. But all of that primarily points to users making smart decisions to reach their rewards. Spending that money on something. It might be a boat, a vacation, or retirement, but that is what motivates most people to watch their finances. If Mint had Virtual Savings Goals (or something like it) as a feature as easy to use as the rest of the site, that would be amazing. Example: I am saving up for a trip to Italy, I'm saving to pay off a lease on a car and I am saving in my retirement 401K for... retirement. If Mint had a category that let me pair a certain amount of money I put into my accounts with a Savings Goal, and easily visualize that money reaching that goal, that would be so attractive.
A chart that looks very similar to YOUR BUDGET on the overview page. A custom uploaded picture of Venice sits on the end of the line that says "ITALY". When I mouse over, it let's me know that I am $1400 away from my goal, and to reach it by June 1, 2009, I need to be putting away X amount of $ each month to this Virtual Goal. Another line gives me stats of how much I need to continue saving to reach my lease goal. All the savings are going into the same boring account, but now, I have a much better gauge of why.
Another line has a picture of a sunset somewhere. When moused over, Mint informs me that with the amount I am contributing and the annual percentage I have acquired the past X years, I will be able to retire (Whatever goal I put in) in X years.
And so on and so forth.
2. Comparison of APR of all debts and savings/assets with specific fiscal outlook instructions.
If Mint could suggest which debts to pay off first, that would be great. In addition, (probably not feasible, with the third party problems) but an advanced function would be Mint recognizing how much goes to principal and interest each month for each debt (Or have a field the user can fill in the terms), and from that, blazes a path towards the easiest way to pay everything off in which order. Mint could crunch the numbers and alert you with Outlook alerts: (EXAMPLE) If you pay $100 extra each month towards the principal on your student loan, you will pay it off x months early and save x$ in the process. More ways to use your money intelligently.
3. A quick click button on every transaction to mark it for Tax Deductions. Then, come Feb or March during tax prep time, Mint can give the user a estimated amount of tax deductions marked for the year. Overtime join forces with Turbo Tax, Taxact, etc, and have an import feature to import/export the data to be used for online filing.
4. More Detailed Breakdown of Earned vs. Spent.
Examples: A graph that visually showcases each month's spending in comparison to each month's earnings. The graph that exists now works, but if your income isn't always the same, like freelancers, those with multiple incomes, etc, it's hard to easily tell (visually) if you saved more or just made more money. Or something as simple as a spent/earned ratio percentage.
This could easily carry over from the OVERVIEW page and take you to the TRENDS page. Keep the existing pie-graph with only spending, but have a button that will switch the pie-graph to income, so you can break down where the money came from this month/3 month/all time, etc etc. Example: Client A has created 33% of my income this year, Client B 12%, and Mom 1% with a birthday check.
5. Updating the Spend Space function.
This feature is amazing and has some really insane potential.
I wish all users had to specify whether this mint.com if for an individual or a joint shared account, family of four, etc. My wife and I use this account, and our spending seems way off the charts in comparison to averages, but we might be comparing it to individuals.
A COMPARE ALL tab would be awesome. That way, you could see the average total spent, not just sub-categorized.
A DEFAULT LOCATION CITY would be great too. Hate scrolling down every time.
Using the existing data, it would be great to see a map of the USA and see percentages represented by color, to see what states spend more or less on everything. (Cost of living breakdown) This could even translate to individual places, like what part of the country spent more at Walmart, etc etc. And going even deeper, you could chart what parts of the country save the best and the worst, by looking at their saving to income ratio. All kinds of options with this.
Also, if you could compare monthly incomes in areas, that would be cool, and the data is already there.
6. *Bonus :) - A Huge and probably impossible idea: Show a balance between inflation, the worth of the dollar, and interest rates to show whether the amount of interest one is obtaining in savings is only keeping up with inflation, falling behind, or actually beating it.

I just joined yesterday, and I have concern that large numbers of users have been complaining for almost a year about the limitations on categories. I can understand how adding a custom categories feature might be tough, but one would think that by now the standard categories list could have been significantly beefed up over what is currently there.
A couple that come to mind after my minimal usage are:
- Dry Cleaning or Clothing Maintenance
- Capital Improvements (as a sub-category of "Home")
- Miscellaneous
Also, one thing I have not been able to check because Mint currently has no connectivity with Citibank (where my primary checking and savings accounts are) is the ability to have advance alerts of scheduled monthly automatic withdrawals (e.g., for payments of mortgage, auto insurance or homeowners insurance) and the ability to enter handwritten checks before they clear (i.e., as you would in a Quicken checking account register).

So after holding out a long time, I finally freed myself from the clutches of B of A. My Portfolio was the only thing that kept me there for awhile, but thanks to Mint I've moved on.
So a few of these features I would like to see in Mint are My Portfolio features that I am missing....
1. Auto-login or at least a LINK(can't be that hard right?) to accounts.
2. Bill due date and amount due listed at the top of the credit card page (right now just shows balance, APR, credit line)
3. Rewards accounts (credit card points, airline miles, and eRewards were all accounts I could add and view with My Portfolio).
4. Joint budgeting. My boyfriend and I live together and we both have mint accounts. But sometimes I'll pay for eating out more often than he pays for groceries so as a result our separate budgets aren't helpful. A customizable joint budget feature would be awesome!
5. Free iphone app!

Overall, i don't want much to change, as this is the best online financial software I have found to date. But since you asked:
I think the overview page needs to make use of the real estate it provides. The "Cash vs. Credit Card Debt" should be selectively hidden and "Save More Than You Spend" should be a line graph in the center of the page. In fact, both data sets could be displayed on the same graph, further saving space. The overview could sum up the account totals in less space, like when they are "minimalized", all the time. It is just an overview, and this information is duplicated in the accounts tab.
The accounts tab should be configurable, so I can manage in what order the accounts show up (drag and drop the accounts window).
If I had to change anything right now, it would be the way transactions are categorized. it shouldn't require 2 screens. look at quicken online, this is done very well (although not much else!). A pull down menu for each transaction is the way to go, although this will prob limit the number of transaction you can show per page...

Love the functionality and continual improvements. Here are a few that I would like to see.
Recurring Split Transactions. Maybe I am missing something (please let me know), but I would like to categorize my ACH paycheck each week for all the taxes, 401k, etc. I can see how to do this manually, but it is pretty much the same every week and it would be nice to have Mint remember the splits.
Internal Security. I appreciate the discussions and policies of Mint's security efforts but still have some questions about how my data is stored/accessed at Yodlee from Mint. Is it possible for Mint employees, contractors, or any others with access to Mint's databases or network (think packet sniffer) to see my bank, credit card, investment account logins, passwords, and/or PINs? I would like some public information on the data flow process internally and externally.
Login Security. I am still a bit uncomfortable with using a single login/password to provide access all of my accounts' data. I think this is an area of improvement since my Mint username and password is now a single point of entry to vast financial information and spending habits. I would like to see an option like PayPal provides to use a SecurID token (https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=xpt/cps/securitycenter/general/PPSecurityKey-outside) (I will pay for this as I did with PayPal!) to reduce the chance that someone can obtain my username/password and reuse it later.
Username Security. I decided to use a different email address than the one I originally used when I signed up, so I changed it while logged in as my old username. It immediately allowed the change and did not notify my old address that a change had been requested or had taken place. I find this to be unacceptable! Consider that if your login somehow be compromised and someone changes from your email address to theirs, you would not be notified of the change nor would you be able to access or find your account again (without Mint's involvement). Email notification requiring acceptance of the change would help. Using a SecurID token along with a PIN would be a step further to protect against unauthorized access.
Keep up the good work and functionality but don't forget that the more well known Mint becomes the more it will become a target for abuse. For me, security is always more important than new functionality.
Thanks,
Doug

At first I was disappointed that I couldn't create custom categories, something I was used to doing in other finance programs. Now I'm learning they're too rigid.
Now, I'd prefer NO categories. Using tags instead is an easier, more flexible solution (not just in Mint either - Gmail, Flickr, and other archival applications offer tags... and it's easier there too).
One transaction could exist in multiple categories. Tags allow me to be MORE organized by piling on as many as I want - making any transaction more findable.

1. Bi-Monthly bill budgeting:
i have one recurring bill that happens every TWO months, not every one. That bill is electricity. It runs about 80 dollars every two months, therefore my MONTHLY budget is 40 per month. currently it looks like i'm over 40 dollars one month, and the next month it will show i am under 40 - for utilities.
any way to account for this would be fantastic.

My suggestions are mainly for the budgeting aspect.
1. More categories (or create your own) -- I want to budget for my credit card payments, external loans, utility breakdown (electricity, water, etc). These are some of the items that are missing.
2. Bill Calendar -- This would allow one to put in when bills are due and it would be nice if Mint could then predict (based on solely bills or spending trends) what the balance of the accounts would be.
I know that Mint is built on Yodlee software which can do these sorts of things (along with Quicken and Money)

- Running balances on bank and credit card accounts
- Manual (credit, debit, and transfer) transactions that prompt user to reconcile when downloads occur (similar to MS Money). Transfers are essentially a paired credit and debit from account to account and would be reconciled separately.
- Add OFX and QFX exports of account transactions. You don't have to think of this only as competition for MS Money and Quicken. It can be a good companion.
- Allow each category to be tied to major tax forms and lines (like "Schedule A - Tax preparation fees"). Then provide an export of these tax summaries to give to accountants.
- Adding frequent flier accounts like Yodlee has.

1. Ability to create an account with personal assets (private investments or accounts that do not have a web interface). For example I work for a company with their own 401k plan. I would like the ability to put the total asset amount in manually to keep track of my total assets. Also have private stock investments. This could be just a manual fill in option.
2. Customize Categories
3. Customize Weekly Reports
4. IPhone interface - This is my number one priority
Thats all I can think of. Your sight is great and would be willing to pay a small fee for it. I also have Quicken and don't like their look and feel as much. They charge 2.99 a month. Assume at some point you will start charging.

1: Manual upload. Without this Mint is only a toy for me and my accounts at 'small' institutions.
2: Bill due date calendar
3: Split transactions and/or multiple categories per transaction
4: More categories or even better, manual categories.
5: manual upload, manual upload and manual upload.
thanks and keep up the good work.

A simple solution to better budgeting would be to have two bars, or, two different views. One that shows my monthly spending in a category compared to my budget, and one that is from the beginning of the year. That way those months I don't spend in a category balance out the months where I overspent. For instance my water bill comes every three months and costs about $130, so I budget $45 per month for that bill, but it doesn't show that way in Mint. Having a broader picture of budgeting would be greatly appreciated!

Damon,
I know you've seen this one over and over, but my wife and I recently left Mint to try out Mvelopes only to come back after a horrible experience (i.e., slow UI, written in all Flash, steep learning curve, etc). They seem to be the only game in town right now doing an envelope system/savings plan type budgeting system. I know many people are requesting this feature, so is there a timeframe you could provide to indicate when something like this would be added? I really believe with Mint's vision and philosophy and user interface, they could really knock this one out of the park. Thanks!

I am new here to the forums, but I have been using the site for about three months now. Personally it is a great idea, but it does need a little work. And I mean that in the nicest way possible.
First suggestion, I should be able to add a URL that links to the account I want to track. For instance, I have two cell phone accounts, one with Verizon and one with AT&T and both sites provided through Mint are for different services then what I need to log in to. So those are two accounts I cannot track.
Second suggestion, there should be a section for utilities, mortgage/rent payments, and other general household stuff that is separate from the credit cards. Also, the investments should be separate from those two mentioned previously. It makes for better organization. I like to look at similarly grouped items to track my expenses.
Third suggestion, there needs to be a solution for websites that change the order of security questions presented. For instance, I have a few accounts with Juniper (through Apple) and they hit me with a random security question each time a log on. Mint on the other hand, lists them in the order I filled them out originally. Even though I have the correct answers, Juniper does not present them that way, and I cannot have Mint access my account because of this. Additionally, there is no way to bypass the question, so this account does not show up on my accounts page.
Fourth suggestion, there should be an option to change the account log in information for each account on the accounts page. For instance, my 401k forces me to change my password every 90 days or so. I need to be able to quickly change the password on the accounts page so I can continue tracking the account. Currently, I have to delete the account and re-add it from scratch for it to accept the changed password.
Aside from those four things listed, I am very pleased with the website and have told numerous people about it. Keep up the good work.

1. Custom Categories
2. Custom Categories
3. Really the only thing that this would mess up is the averages that you can compare to other people in your city/state/whatever but who uses that anyway?
4. Custom Categories
5. Please!
everything works great for me here except I cant be specific with what I purchase, especially under the entertainment category. "Amusement" just doesnt cut it for me. Lets go for Bar/Club. And for Gifts, can we have partner gifts, family gifts, birthday presents....
Theres a million other ones, but really... just make it custom in addition to what you already have listed as options and we can figure it out to meet what each individual needs to make their budget/money management work best for them.

My password isn't working, but I've been using mint.com for about a month now.
Income: Need to compare my income vs. expenses (crucial)
Budget: Want to add category for credit card payment - This is a big part of my budget
Budget: Savings - can't figure out how to add savings item to my budget either (another big monthly figure)
Thanks!

I don't understand why this isn't a request that Mint receives daily a hundred times over...PLEASE give us the ability to see Annual views as well as to be able to spread expense across many months...I am sure many of us pay lump sums for things that cover a whole year...like car insurance etc.
You should also have a Home Maint category for things like grass cutting etc, small repairs
Another would be work related but will be reimbursed for things like travel that will be paid back by one's work.

A way to add manual transactions or accounts, both of my mortgage accounts do not have online access so there is no way to add it in and I'd really like to see that as part of my "picture"
Calendar view to show transactions posted and also to schedule future transactions.
Mint not logging me out approx every two minutes claiming I have been inactive for 10.
More categories or customizable categories
Instead of credit card suggestions/offers debt calculators/goals and timelines/scenarios on how to reach them?
Hmmm one more thing, pay off my mortgage so I can just stay home with my baby :p

I have been a member for about a month and I've used Mint enough to know that while it's nice for a snapshot, it's far from the tool I need it to be. With that said, here are my top 5 in descending order of importance:
1. gotta add my voice to the desperate plea for CUSTOM CATEGORIES...please. I hate having to work around the limited categories offered. I use some of the non-important (for me) categories to re-categorize things that I would create a custom category for. Trying to remember all of those is a nightmare.
2. Envelope style budgeting, please. for the love of pete. The budget feature is completely useless right now since you cannot spread payments out over time (once yearly/quarterly transactions, eg car insurance) and especially because it does not have an "all else" category that dumps in all the other expenses that are not explicitly sorted out above and because it resets at the beginning of the month...sure wish some of my accounts could do that, too! I will most likely stop using Mint if envelope style budgeting is not added soon. Damon, please at least comment on this in one of the envelope style budgeting threads. please. I'm begging you.
3. Advanced Search. 'nuff said.
4. Manual transaction/account entry - again, essential since some of my (and many of your) accounts are not linked.
5. Better transactions screen and Transaction - Trends integration. This needs an overhaul. Cosmetically, I have no comments for or against, but the back end needs some work. Why? 1) All of the transactions I make over the weekend show up in duplicate on Monday. If I forget just once to go in and mark them as duplicates, I get, well, duplicates. There ought to be a way for Mint to see that a weekend transaction has occurred, it's listed as POS (with no other info), compare it against the real transaction (for the same amount, on the same day) and at the very least ask me if it's a duplicate, rather than having to hunt them down myself. Or better yet, why not have Mint know it's a duplicate and not even post it? 2) I would also like to see pie charts that reflect cash flow as well as transactions - this way I can see how much of my pie is devoted to credit card payments. Alternately, like in transactions, I'd like to be able to click an account and see that specific account's pie. 3) Keep the Pie drilled down when clicking between Trends and Transactions so I don't have to remember what level I was at when I click off the Trends tab. 4) Also, allow for automatic labeling in the same pop-up that allows for automatic naming and categorizing.
I know, I cheated and included a lot more than 5 things...sorry 'bout that.

I've been a member for a number of months now (eight? nine?) and I just deleted my account. Thought Mint might like to know why.
The big deal for me is that there is simply no ability to add accounts from unlisted banks. I live in a rural area and there aren't any local/regional banks in my area that are currently listed - and they probably never will be. I've been considering dropping my only checking account at a major bank which would leave me with one measly account (a credit card, on which I rarely if ever carry a balance anyway) that Mint is able to track. People have been asking for this feature for the last year - I've personally been waiting since the day I signed up - and Mint appears to be completely uninterested in implementing it. So I'm leaving for greener pastures.
Conveniently, the other service provides iPhone support too.

I'd like some way to "blur" or mask my account balances when I want to show how cool Mint is to my friends.
A cool blur would be nice but a CIA-ish black redaction box would work or even just "$XXX.xx" or "$123.45"
I'd like to show Mint to friends and co workers and the demo pages are cool but I think it's more impressive to show actual graphs of my data and accounts but I'd like to hide my finances a bit...
Thanks

There does need to be a good way to import old account data, otherwise during a multi-month "transition phase," folks have to use two finance systems. This is what I'm doing now, with both Quicken and with Mint.
Also, on the custom categories -- how about a voting/popularity system for new categories that let you walk the line between rapidly expanding lists of unique categories that can't be used for comparisons, and folks' need for finer tracking of their spending?

1. Allow custom budget categories
2. Make the "Home (all)" line (and others like it) automatically add all the amounts under the "home" category. I shouldn't have to do this manually
3. Allow me to check a box or highlight an item once I've reconciled it with my receipts
4. Highlight new transactions, ones that have posted since the last time I've logged-in or updated
5. Be able to delete, completely, certain transactions, not exclude from Mint

Great app...soon to be KILLER, if:
1. Expand the Budget tracking function. For each budget category I need to see Year to Date spending totals compared to both YTD budget and annual budget. This would allow better tracking of irregular expenses (property tax, vacations, etc.) I would much prefer this to envelope budgeting.
2. Allow custom budget categories.
3. Transactions: Click the name (or maybe a pencil icon next to the magnifying glass) to rename. Click the category (or an icon) to re-categorize. I stole this from another post
4. ability to split transactions among multiple categories
5. Same as #1. PLEASE PLEASE expand your monthly transaction tracking to display YTD transactions against YTD and annual budget figures. Might be good to let each user select their own beginning month for YTD for those with odd fiscal years.

1. Transactions: add import from OFX, QIF, QDF.
2. Reports: add year end tax report.
3. Ways to save: add a home/car loan calculator.
4. Ways to save: add a 401k calculator (to determine how much to contribute per week/month to retire in X number of years with X amount of money given average investment returns of X%) calculator.
5. Website: fix mint.com so it is compatible with the Opera browser (adding accounts does not work).

#1 Reconcile! Ability to manually enter transaction from receipt and have that transaction reconcile either automagically or manually against my bank's reported transactions.
#2 Future or recurring transactions (ie-- mortgage)
I love every aspect about mint, but how can I possibly get off M$ Money w/o the ability to reconcile? The way it's setup now I have to "trust" that what the bank sez and tells Mint is correct. Maybe mint wasn't designed to be used to reconcile accounts, but that's the primary reason I use money. Until this feature is implemented on mint I'm confined to money... and there's certainly not enough time in my life for two money management apps.

Here are a couple suggestions that would be helpful for me.
1. Income tracking - I would like the ability to see income vs. expenses somewhere for budgeting purposes. I would also like to be able to categorize my income streams with my own custom categories.
2. Adding Custom Transactions - It would be nice to be able to add my own transactions that are either cash or in an account that Mint.com cannot access.
3. Creating my own categories - I know you are working on this, but I wanted to add it to my list too.
4. Manually add my own account - I think this would be nice for the smaller banks, personal loans (individual to individual), student loans etc. (that are not part of the Mint.com download yet). I would like to have the ability to keep track (manually) of my balance.
I am fairly new to Mint.com, so, if these features are currently available, then great! If not, I think they would be great additions.

1. Inline editing of transaction name and categories
2. Custom Categories
3. When splitting a transaction, treat as sub-transactions to the main one, rather than separate new transactions.
4. A section on new features by release date and upcoming features.
5. Include any text from notes in the search facility.

1. How about not taking a week to move my Wachovia transactions from pending to active so that I can categorize them?
2. How about replying to the posts in this forum and bugs reports entered on the form?
3. Not dropping a bunch of transactions like happened in May...

Transactions:
Ability to log an upcoming transaction in order to monitor cash flow. Also the ability to mark a transaction as a regularly recurring event, e.g. a monthly mortgage payment or a credit card payment.
Without the ability to do this Mint will never be a truly viable product.

1. Custom Categories.
2. Split into different categories (20% food, 80% gas)
3. Font for transaction amounts are sometimes hard to read
4. Some sort of report for income - would be great for eBay sellers / people with variable income - have custom categories for income
5. More support for lesser banks. Citizen Bank of Mukwonago works, but I have my loan on the same net-teller account, and it will not add my loan, only checking and savings.
6. More accurate categories & names. Can't you look up the name of the place by an ID number in the transaction?
7. My bank holds data since I started the account, but only shows the last 3 months. Someway to look deeper into net-teller would be awesome, or have a way to import data from the bank's site, with out it making duplicates and screwing up.
1 -- This is a big deal for me, and a reason why I won't use Mint. I have two very different gas bills, one for travel (motorcycle trips) and one for work. I can't manage my budget for gas when it varies so much between work and travel. Also, I have a gas guzzling truck, and a gas sipping motorcycle, if I can't separate them, then I can't accurately budget for it. I also would like to see separate categories for repair on either the truck or the motorcycle, along with accessories for each.
2 -- Often times I will pay for the entire bill and a friend will pay me back for something, so it is not accurate. Hotels are a great example. Or, it would be nice to have an option to track what people owe you.
5 -- I also won't use it because I can't see my loan through Citizen bank - so I can't track it.

-Allow for Trends to be per account: I would like to be able to see the trend for my checking account only.
- Manual account input: If I can't input a third party account, e.g. my car loan account won't work, I would like to be able to input it manually by knowing the APR, balance, etc and update it myself.

The kind folks at Mint asked the question "Top 5 things you would like to see changed?" in April '07 and received *many* excellent suggestions. I'm torn between Yodlee and Mint and would feel more comfortable choosing Mint if I knew that they were actually incorporating user feedback into their development plans.
Is anyone at Mint listening? What "Top 5" requests came up most often and were these incorporated into the latest release?

Currently, we have to provide usernames/passwords/security questions about each of the accounts that we want mint.com to be aware of. While this was easy and fast to implement, it creates several security concerns. Currently, if some outside person obtained that login info (a hacker, or a mint.com employee), they could easily log into our various accounts and initiate transactions.
I would like to see mint.com form a committee, along with other banks, investment firms, etc, to come up with a secure, read-only method to log into these 3rd party accounts.
One way to do this would be to have these 3rd party web sites give us a way to generate a secure key (a text string). We could then plug that secure key into mint.com to allow it to access our account information on the 3rd party site, without the worry that someone could potentially break into our accounts and initiate transactions. Ultimately, this would be a feature you could advertise to the security conscious folks out there.
I may also post this in a separate thread to keep it from getting lost in this long thread. If anyone has already suggested this, please point me to their thread.
Thanks!
