The Mechanics Bank Login Problem

I am unable to add The Mechanics Bank due to the authentication challenge:

* Bank Name
The Mechanics Bank

* URL you use to login to the bank
Start by going here:
http://mechanicsbank.com/mechbank/TMBwebsite.nsf/personal/index
Then you are forwarded to:
https://www.mechdirect.com
after logging in

* If the bank requires additional login information (challenge questions, etc.).
The bank requires a challenge question if you access it from a new computer (or if the config changes on your computer) It either emails or sends an SMS with a code which you must enter.

I'd love to be able to get started using mint.com to track this account.

Mechanics Bank web interface hasn't substantially changed since they initially rolled it out in late 90s(?). Years, in any case. My account is now down to the automatic debits, and I will be closing it completely.

I am now locked out of my account completely.

I don't much care about my credit rating (cash on the barrelhead kind of guy myself), but it's too many accounts to bounce. What a pain in the butt.

They need to get with the program.

I am now completely locked out of my Mechanics Bank account, which is playing havoc with my bookkeeping. I'll adjust my bookkeeping procedure and close the account of course, but it's still a hassle until I can find time to do it. It's the automatic debiting that's killing me here.

The time difference between internet time and face time is staggeringly difficult to reconcile.

If you change your settings for their security to use the question and answers, mint seems to work fine. You just have to set up your user name and password, and then fill out the answers to your security questions. Hopefully they'll continue to improve their systems...

Mechanics bank is fantastic in every way, unfortunately the customer service agent I called about the Mint problem didn't know the answer. But I'm glad there is an answer and I am still a devoted fan of Mechanics Bank.
