View Full Version : Adding Citizens Bank a No Go

Hi, I think that I have encountered an error similar with some other users. Citizens Bank asks you a security question when logging in everytime. The only thing that I find strange is that the progress bar makes it all the way to download transactions before it stops working.

Also should add.
- The login process for Citizens is on two pages first page is username and second page uses a safe with citizens image and phrase. Then you can log-in with your password.
- Again I will note that it seems to log in okay but when the data transfer initiates, there is a failure notice.

I have a bug filed for Citizens. Let's hope we can resolve it shortly!
Note: Banks that have additional login requirements are giving us the fits right now.

I too am having trouble connecting to my Citizens Bank account. For full clarity, I've summarized below my experience logging in to the citizensbankonline.com page.
--
To sign in to my Citizens Bank account @ http://www.citizensbankonline.com. Each numbered step represents a new webpage loaded.
From a *NEW* computer (i.e., w/o any preexisting cookies):
Prompt for User ID.
Text verification box that asks user to translate image based word into text box.
Identity verification challenge question (similar to "What was your first pet's name?"). I've been asked a different question when I failed the first prompt.
Prompt for Password. Also displays "Safe with Citizens" image and phrase for customer recognition.
From a computer where a user has already previously logged on (i.e., w/ preexisting cookies):
Prompt for User ID.
Prompt for Password. Also displays "Safe with Citizens" image and phrase for customer recognition.

I am posting to this thread since CharterOne is owned by Citizens and I am having the same problem as the others in setting up my bank account. If the Citizens Bank issue gets resolved, I would appreciate someone looking into CharterOne bank as well. It might be closely related since their login process is the same.
Thanks.

Having been in touch with the Mint.com support team, it's clear they're aware of the problems people are having with Citizens, but seem to be working towards a solution. I've copied a portion of his email below.
Yeah, Citizens has been giving us fits. I will try to post an update in the forums (forums.mint.com) if I have an update. If time permits...I will also try to email folks as well.
Damon

I will post updates on any Financial Institution in the Mint Announcement area (improvement, addition, ec.).
I know that it is frustrating for folks when they can't add a particular bank. But an honest answer is that these issues are complex to resolve & they don't always affect every user of that particular bank (the success rate is always higher than any failure rate).
If your bank does require additional login information, it may cause issues if they recently made a change. If you get prompted by a security box, I would recommend reviewing some of the pointers I have in the add accounts area (getting the information from your bank, etc.).

Please let us know when these issues are resolved.

Is this affecting all users? If so, you should take CB off the list.

I'd rather not have CB removed from the list... or else it won't be a priority to correct. Can the admin give us any clue regarding the time it would take to get it working? I mean, mint semi-successfully got things working for thousands of other banks, so there must be some average time to come up with an approach to get the linking to work, even if the developers were starting from scratch.

I am having same issues.
I seem to remember Citizens recently adding some security that is tracking which computer you are logging in with. If its a new one you have to register it with them. I suspect that since Mint is logging into Citizens from their servers in the background, and not my local PC that is already setup for Citizens, then its not letting them.

I'm also waiting on Citizens, but... I wanted to give some positive feedback too. I don't see any areas where people can share their experiences. Maybe I've missed it, but I feel that should definitely be added.
Anyway, I wanted to say that even though my primary bank isn't working Mint has already proved extremely useful! I added one of my credit cards and Mint showed me that my interest rate was over 22 %. It's supposed to be around 11. Apparently I had been late on a payment by a day or so a few months ago and they'd raised my interest rate to the default rate! I had called and they took off the late fee, but left the default interest rate. Wow... I'm glad I gave Mint a try if only for this reason. This had been going on for a few months.
Thank you!

Thank you for contacting Mint.
Some Mint customers have recently been receiving an error message that Mint “Can Not Connect” to their bank right now. The fix for this item should occur over the weekend of September 30, 2007. Please do try to add your accounts again at this time.
Many thanks for your patience. We also apologize for the temporary inconvenience during our beta phase.

Citizens not working for me either, and I have two accounts with them.
However - I worked with the Wesabe.com team for a while on this problem as they had the same issue. Citizens doesn't allow computer connections with your online bank credentials - you need to call them and get a different username and password (tell them you want to connect with Quicken).
Of course, I can't find mine anywhere, and never got it working with Wesabe either, but perhaps this information helps the administrator team fix this - so far, I'm more impressed with mint.com than Wesabe, however Wesabe do offer manual uploads, so at least I can get my information into their system, even if by hand. I just upload my statements as a .ofx

I just got off the phone with Citizens to try the above suggestion and the customer rep told me that they do not support Mint or any other kind of software that requires a direct connection. The least we could hope for is a way that Mint would allow us to manually upload our info to our accounts.

i emailed support with comments specifically about what web server(s) etc. one logs onto, have received no response...
mint's okay for the credit card tracking etc., but not for the lack of support for citizens bank...if all the other banks etc. work with mint, there's no real reason other than small-minded proprietariness that citizens can't work with mint.

Citizens has historically been a problem for us. Our Product and Engineering folks are looking into the matter & I will post an update when I know this specific bank is better. While I realize it is tempting to contact support about Citizens right now, please don't do so if you're aware of the problem & are posting about it in the forums. We're tracking failure rates with banks & trying to address then with our provider & our engineering team as fast as we can.
I know folks are frustrated that I can't just press a button to fix these issues. I also know that folks are frustrated because they can't add their accounts. I just need to remind people that we're still in a beta phase & we're fixing these issues as quickly as we can. If I could provide an alternative to get your accounts working, I would.

As prospective Mint.com users and current Citizens Bank customers, are their any complaints, suggestions, or questions we can contact Citizens about to reinforce Mint's efforts to work with them on the other side of things?

Yes, my Citizens bank login doesn't seem to connect either. I happen to be a developer for a company that deals with these big banks everyday and I know for a fact that most of them(BofA, Wachovia, RBS, HSBC, etc.) are moving to this type of security model due to the recent buzz of accounts being hacked into and such and account numbers being published.
I also know from experience, that working with the banks on these security restrictions is nearly impossible to change. Your best bet may be to have the account holder to request a monthly e-statement from them and then have feature to upload the file.
Good luck Mint, if you can pull this off, i will be very impressed.
I will check back in a few weeks to see if this gets figured out.
BT, thanks for this really slick service.

Citizens isn't even an option anymore on mint. If other banks are moving toward similar security models, mint is doomed. Unfortunately without citizens it's a waste for me. Maybe I'll give it another try in a year. It would be nice if mint gave some indication of progress other than telling us "citizens has historically had problems". Maybe citizens is ahead of the game when it comes to security. Thumbs down for Mint.

Mint is a great concept, but Banks shouldn't back peddle when it comes to security. This is the financial industry, and I would honestly be disappointed if Citizens rolled back their latest security improvements just for some new money management tool that happens to be popular this month. With that said, there has to be away for Mint to resolve the issue on their own. Does anyone here use Quicken? Is Quickens auto update feature stumbling over Citizens? If not, then I would think the problem is solvable.
Mint Staff, is the problem fixed yet? Any estimates?

10-12-2007, 03:14 PM
I don't disagree at all with your statement on security. Banks need to continue to offer a secure environment, but that doesn't prevent them from also offering an API by which third parties can access their services, as long as they authenticate correctly. One might say that this opens Citizens up to hacking, but I don't think so. If they place a "lock out" on an account after a limited number of retries (e.g. five) they can ensure that brute force hacking will still be prevented.
David.

Please give us an update about your provider. If the bank is holding things up, there's got to be a way to get them to cooperate, even if it means getting users like me to email them/call them. i know that is not the solution you want to hear, but as an end user we feel pretty helpless here and would like to feel at least some semblance of usefulness trying to get something done.

Same here... is there anything we as customers can do to help out with this? I want to 'start fresh' with my personal finances in the new year, and if I can't add my accounts to Mint in the next week or two to start getting a feel for it, I'll be using something else. ...My E*trade account doesn't work on mint, and does for quicken online. I've been waiting long enough to start considering a $3/month paid service. Folks, lay off of poor Mint for a while, huh? It's not my intent to be condescending or rude, but everyone sees the "beta" off of the logo, don't they? Has anyone been charged a cent for using the service?
I think Mint has a great idea here, let's give them time to implement. The problem is not with Mint, it's with <em>their</em> service provider, Yodlee. Yodlee is the account aggregator for Mint, and it's their responsibility to provide a path for Mint to tread.
While it's great that other services that people use are able to access their Citizens Bank account, Mint has some smart folks at the helm. I'm willing to bet money that if there were a way to get it to work and keep it secure, they already would have done it.
I'd like to see Citizens added just as much as the next guy. It's more than half of my financial picture. I eagerly await the day when it comes around. But until then, add your Amex/Visa/MC/Discover cards to your account. It's useful even for that alone.
Just needed someone to give props to Mint. My $.02.

I do think Mint is great, but I think there should at least be something that comes up when you try to add Citizens Bank (or any other major bank that does not currently work) that informs people of this issue.
Yes, its great that Mint does not charge for this service, but neither does Wesabe and they are able to connect to Citizens Bank.
This site is only as good as its weakest link. If the provider cannot connect to Citizens Bank, then it doesn't matter how good the Mint website is--its still a problem with Mint. I don't know how many 'providers' are out there, but certainly there must be more than 1. Of course, with business contracts and the like, I am not about to speculate the ease of Mint switching service providers. But at the end of the day, it still reflects upon Mint, for better or worse.
I have no doubt smart people are working this, as well as all the other banks that it cannot connect to at this time. But since there is no estimate as to when this will be fixed, we are left hanging, wondering when we can finally utilize Mint the way it was meant to be used.
(I'm also confused about the "Beta" part--the forums still have the "beta" logo but the main website doesn't. I would think they should have the entire site be "Beta" until every big-name major bank in the US is on thier site)

I should be able to use that info in one business day (Monday). I'll report back then and see if I can use Wesabe.

I am very surprised that mint.com doesn't support Citizens Bank. Come on! It was the bank in The Departed! It's my bank!
They have a really nice and clean online banking system. Please add support for Citizens Bank. I see no point in using this seemingly great service otherwise.

Adding another bump - I need Citizen's bank!
What makes things even MORE strange, is that the "Citizens Bank - Retirement Web Site" account option actually links to the Citizen's Bank web site...
Why won't it work?

I realize that the double-login screen and computer approval is probably a challenge to your software, but Citizens is a HUGE bank in the northeast.
I am really enjoying playing around with mint, but until I can get my primary account up and running on it, it's effectively useless to me.
And of course, more bumping.
I actually left Mint for several months due to the Citizens bank problem, and started using Quicken Online which *does* connect to Citizens, extremely well in fact.
But having seen more and more rave reviews about Mint, I came back to try it again - and am extremely dissapointed that not only does Citizens not show up, but now it looks like we're being ignored when we ask for time lines, status updates.
I understand mint is free, and Quicken Online is not. Frankly, Quicken doesn't do half the things mint does, and they charge me. However, I happily pay them, because they play nice with Citizens.
It's obviously possible.
I'll give it another week to see if any of my support requests are answered, or there is an update in here, then I'll cancel my account again, and go back to Quicken Online, or see if I can get Wesabe working, per a previous poster.

I was excited to start using Mint in my quest to save money and watch where it goes. I tried to add Citizens Bank a few days ago and sent in an inquiry with no response. So I tried adding it again tonight and sent in another inquiry. I decided to check the threads for Citizens Bank and I am shocked to see that the first post was 4/07 and the last is 6/08. I cant believe nothing has been resolved in over a year! At least in the first few posts, an Admin is posting updates, apparently there are no updates lately.
Come on, Mint, add Citizens Bank!

While Mint connects to over 5,000 US banks and credit unions, credit card, brokerage, and mutual fund companies, it still lacks support for CitizensBank.com (The primary Citizens Bank website). Many users have tried to communicate their efforts, and frustrations to Mint’s staff about supporting Citizens bank, yet still, over a span of one year, we have failed to see support for Citizens Bank. Thousands are left stranded trying to use other personal financial organization tools, but we all know deep down that we all just want to use mint, forever.
The following petition will show Mint staff how sincere we are about using Mint. Please show your support as we, Citizens’ bankers, have been waiting patiently for a very long time, and will continue to wait, as long as we know Mint’s staff even notices that...
We REALLY, REALLY, REALLY want to use mint...
Please show your support!

I'm new to Mint, and would LOVE to start using it; however all of my checking/savings accounts are with CitizensBankOnline.com and i'm mildly upset that Citizens has not been more helpful in having personal finance service providers such as Mint provide read-only service features to its customers.
I know the most popular Intuit products allow pulling information from Citizens; there must be a way for Mint to do it...
i'm really looking forward to using Mint on my iPhone too.

i have been wanting to use mint, but cant because it doesnt support citizens... yet it supports citizens retirement and loan??? how much sense does that make?
and i am really frustrated with the admins for not even giving periodic updates. it is not only poor customer service, but rude.
The thing that bugs me about this is that sites such as www.geezeo.com have NO problems loging into citizens bank account.
Talk to them maybe they can fill you in on the tricks :D
Mint seems much more polished at the moment, but until you guys add citizens i'll be sticking with your compettion.

In the past we supported Citizens Bank. They have since implemented security policies that prevent Mint from getting access. We are working on restoring access.
This morning we turned the option back on with in Mint. This will allow Citizens Bank users to try to add their accounts. This is not a guarantee that it will work, but we wanted to give it a shot as part of our steps to regain access.

It works for me!!! :D It took a few times, because I setup my 3 security questions a long time ago and wasn't sure which ones I needed to choose. I worked around it by going directly to Citizens' site and "guessing wrong" to the questions there, so I would see the other questions. I got two right away, but by the time I got to the third I denied (security at it's best :)) but after I hit refresh a few times it showed me the final question.
Thank you so much!!

Ok, mint. Here is my scenario:
I added citizens bank back in the day when it was suppported. Then it when off the supported list and wasn't working. I never removed it from my accounts list.
About 5 months ago, presumably when Yodllee added support for it, it started working again. I love it, Mint worked great for me and all my account even though citizens wasn't officially supported.
Six days ago it stopped working. This is presumably when you 'flipped some switch' to allow citizens?
Is there some event that caused you to make this decision or was it just an arbitrary judgement by someone at Mint? I am curious becaue I want my Citizens to work again!!

OK, f'real, what's the deal with Citizens? Searching just "Citizens" says there's too many banks with names like that, searching the URL (www.citizensbankonline.com) gets nothing, searching Citizens Bank gets a buncha things that aren't the right bank (although the Loan and Retirement options come up). Anybody know what the current deal is?
It's really disappointing it's taken this long, since Yodlee started supporting Citizens quite a while ago and this hasn't resulted in any changes at Mint. . .

As far as I can tell (and this just recently happened with my bank) is that your bank wants to be as secure as possible and they see allowing mint as a chink in the armor as it were. If I am not mistaken mint does not go through your computer to connect to your banks/credit companies/or anything. This makes it easy for a large bank to see a lot of incoming traffic from one or a handful of IPs accessing a lot of different accounts. If you were citizens bank what would you think about that? Its not like they want to provide unfettered access to everyone. Just the people that it KNOWS are its own customers.
Quicken of course comes straight from your personal computer. Its not like you ping quicken's server that then pings your bank. You ping your bank directly. That way there are millions of IPs for millions of accounts, which doesn't raise any red flags.
I understand everyone's frustration. I am in the same boat. Except that mine did work until my bank upgraded its security. I just wonder exactly whats going on (and I am sure mint can't really tell us exactly).
I do agree that an update would be nice but it is always really hard coming back to a lot of people and saying, "Nope, we were trying but right now we are at an impasse with your bank."
I wish the best of luck to everyone on this thread, citizens bank members, and mint.

I personally know of two people who dropped Citizens because Mint couldn't connect to their accounts. I may end up being the third if this continues. Managing my finances in my "Super Spreadsheet" is getting tiresome and Quicken Online is Old and Busted.

I wrote them a detailed email explaining the new regulated login process and the security questions, that not only they but every other financial institution is required to have today, and asked them how are they different, and how come other sites like geezeo are supported, and even their loans and retirement sites that have the same level of security are supported, This is after their default response that everyone here gets explaining how this is a feature and that they don't support personal accounts.
Below is the response stating that if mint asks the personal questions like they do for retirement and loans, then there is no reason why mint can't do the same for personal accounts. Mint.com you have A LOT of explaining to do.

Today I tried to add Citizens Bank (Loans) and it worked! I tried in Yodlee as well, and works there too. Something got fixed apparently, but I saw no mention of it, either on Yodlee or Mint. Funny thing is at Yodlee I submitted a service request about this bank, and it said (and see my previous post on this thread) that it wasn't gonna happen...
UPDATE:
After the initial successful connection that downloaded the loan balance, etc. it began failing again. Because it was successful in Yodlee before too, I tried there and Citizens Loan also failed, saying "Bad user/password?" so I tested on the Citizens website and it worked fine.
Why Why Why???
UPDATE2:
I double checked my 3 "security questions" they require for this site, and sure enough, I had one of them wrong in Mint. After I updated the Mint account info, it started working again.
I wonder why it worked initially, in both Yodlee and Mint? Oh well, I don't care now because it works!

I'd just like to revive this request: www.citizensbank.com personal accounts needs to be added. Their online login doesn't require security questions anymore. Can we make this happen please?
So I logged in again from another machine and it did have a security question. It was a cookie that prevented it last time. My bad there. But I'd still really like to get it added to mint. There are plenty of configurations that do have security questions, in any case. So I can't believe that was the difficulty.
Could you provide us with some insight on what's limiting this progress? You've acknowledged high demand, so I don't expect it's time/resources/interest. Is there an issue parsing their data? Do you require site samples? Will they not work with you on specific needs to make this possible?
joe-g
11-18-2008, 01:50 AM
Afterthought: Can we create a solution that would allow uploading data for this (and other) sites if the current, direct communication method is not possible. They do provide users the ability to download transaction data for specified date ranges from their site in the following formats:
Quicken 98 (Mac & Win 98)
Quicken 99 (Win 98/2K/XP)
Quicken using WebConnect
QuickBooks using WebConnect
Intuit Interchange Format
Microsoft Money Active Statement
OFX
Comma Delimited
Worst case, you take the comma delimited data from our uploads as opposed to a direct server update. The only concern I could see you having would be the potential loss of data integrity in the event that someone was purposefully uploading incorrect information. I'm not sure of the likelihood of this happening since there seems to be little to gain from someone doing that. As far as I'm aware, you're not currently selling this data and it is used for internal trending and value-added comparisons. If the sale of this data is in future plans you could initiate a feature like the one I'm suggesting now. This will give you the opportunity to evaluate any trend gaps between data coming directly from financial institutions and that being uploaded. If there is a large gap during this time, then you could easily separate it out as needed and possibly discontinue the feature.
To further combat the potential for misuse of a feature like this, perhaps you only make it available to users who have connected a minimum number of other "traditional" accounts to mint. This way you know that a portion of the data their account has is accurate and this reduces the potential for fake accounts/data. Personally, I have 7 accounts linked now, but citizensbank (PA) is, and will continue to be, my primary bank I do business with. You have access to tons of other sources to confirm activity, but my paychecks and 95% of my financial activity goes through citizens. We know I'm not alone in this either - and there are other banks out there this could certainly work for as well.
Just trying to find solutions.. but I guess I still don't know what we need to solve for. So I digress and go back to my request for insights again, or input on this proposed feature.
Thanks!

Without getting into the details of the technical issues behind why we can't flip a switch and support Citizens Bank today, I wanted to let you all know that we should be able to support Citizens sometime within the first few months of 2009. With that, I'd say March is more likely than January but it will be added. We are aware of the demand for Citizens and thank you all for your feedback and patience. Thanks!!

Charter One Works!!
Citizens bought Charter One in 2004 -- Citizens is known as Charter One in some places in PA. They are the same bank...so try it, it resolves the Citizens Banks Log-in issue some how :)
I'm in CT and charterone.com didn't work for my citizensbank.com account:
I tried the following:
1.) Logging in through firefox (on my mac) and setting the cookie to say "I'll be logging in through this workstation and this is not a one time login" question.
2.) Changing my online login name and password, re-trying charterone.com
3.) I tried the same as above in safari.
4.) I tried clearing all my cookies and using mint.com before logging in through the actual charterone.com website.
The error I consistently get on the "add accounts" page says "Wrong username or password?" I'm sure I'm using the correct username and password. Another thing worth noting is that it takes some time to actually get this error message... mint.com stays on the "Authenticating" step for quite a while before it reports this.
Any help appreciated.

Okay so, what you want to do Yeoj is this.
Add charteroneonline.com and it'll say like "charter bank"
now login and make sure you have the proper 3 security questions (proper questiona nd proper answer) copied in there. You can find those when you log in under...customer service (on the charter/RSNB website). Once you do so (with the proper username and password), it should work.
This is for checking/savings accounts. I've found my charter account works on citizensbank as well, so maybe it will go both ways? Literally I just got it to work today for the first time.

That worked for me also. One change I had to make was to make sure that my Charter One security questions showed up in mint's Charter One login...only a handful of them are common to both.

WOW, just wow. I've been waiting so long, and the "Charter One Bank" solution worked for both of my Citizens business accounts.
I'm the dude who started the petition (http://www.devnuts.com/supportcitizens/) for Citizens Bank + Mint, so you can see how much I went through to try to get a little cooperation..
And all along, the solution was there the whole time. As we can see, the problem wasn't a technical one...It was simply coming to a realization, which the mint team did not yet come about, which is truly ashame.
I am overwhelmed with happyness...
FINALLY, MINT + CITIZENS = <3

The Charter One workaround worked for me as well, except this weekend. For some reason I wasn't able to authenticate this entire weekend. Not that it really mattered, but I had to re-enter my login info this morning since i got a wrong login/password error this weekend. Not sure if anyone else got this and if this is going to happen every weekend.

Mine worked fine over the weekend, on both of my Citizen accounts.

Thanks so much, this worked like a charm. My problem was my security questions didn't perfectly match the security questions setup in the "Customer Service" area on charterone.com.
Thanks again!

I just started with Mint today, and Citizens is my primary bank.
I tried the CharterOne approach and keep getting the "it should work if you try again later" message. Disappointing. It still works for other people though?

Yeah, I'm getting the same thing... And of course mint doesn't "remember" what I entered before so I have to look up my security questions again to make sure I have them in the right order. I've tried at least a dozen times today between from work and home. Same thing: "We’re having issues right now
Trying again a bit later should do the trick!"
I'd hate to leave just for this... I mean heck, it works with Wells Fargo (mortgage), Toyota Financial (truck payment), Sallie Mae and Direct Loans (student loans), my lowes card (lowe's CC website SUCKS!!), both our orchard bank cards, and even a "small" local credit union!
I can do damn near everything to budget my wife and I EXCEPT account for citizens!! (and that's 2 checking, 1 savings, and 2 ODP accounts!)

Ok, well Citizen's started working this morning when I added it as Charter One like mentioned earlier. Didn't work last night after numerous attempts, but this morning I logged into Mint and it just worked. No need to re-enter login info. It just synced right up!

Hello patient Citizens Bank users,
We have some good news. Citizens Bank is now supported on Mint.com !!!!! In the add account process, search Citizensbank (no spaces) and add your credentials. Let us know in a reply post if you have any problems. Again, thanks for being patient.
With regards to access via Charter One, Citizens acquired Charter One in 2004 and some Citizens users were able to access via the Charter One log-in authentication. Since this workaround does not work for all Citizens Bank users we could not, in good faith, promote it.
Happy Minting!

Log into online banking and then go to the Customer Service tab and then you'll find the security questions under "Change your security information"

I can not log in to Citizens Bank.
I read through the thread here. Is it just not working?
Or should I try something?

Sometimes it's a little quirky, you should try again in an hour or so. Or you can try using Charter One, mentioned here http://forums.mint.com/showpost.php?p=20902&postcount=161

Finally got it to work.
Problems are that Mint asks to search for the login website URI, which is http://www.citizensbankonline.com ...but is in Mint's database as http://www.citizensbank.com
There are three security questions, from a pool of ten. If you give Mint the correct answer to a question which you are not using... you cannot log in.
For Credit Cards, the 'proper' URI for accessing Citizens Bank credit cards is http://www.accessmycardonline.com. Mint has nothing resembling that, however using http://www.rbsnb.com will work, but show a different bank.
Technically, the Royal Bank of Scotland issues "credit cards for RBS, Citizens Bank, Charter One Bank and People’s United Bank", so RSBNB.COM should work for any of those institutions.

I'm having a similar problem to those described above - the first time I set up my Citizens' Bank account, it pulled the data just fine, but now it tells me it can't log in. I've checked my account settings several times, and I'm absolutely sure it's all correct. Has anyone found a solution to this issue yet? I'm hesitant to try the Charter One solution, because it seems like a security risk.

I have been attempting to add a new account and will enter all of my information and it will pop back up saying

However it will never even attempt to authorize the account like it did my others. Anyone know how to get this to work ?

I have been having the same issue. Citizens Bank worked fine for me for several months then stopped updating a few days ago. Mint then asked me to recheck my account details, which I did to no luck. So I attempted to delete the account and start fresh and now I'm getting the same thing as Tucker.
I've just opened a Citizens Bank account & was really looking forward to integrating it with Mint so as to see everything in one place.
Unfortunately, Mint is unable to load my account information - not even once. Just like the complaints above, there's no evidence that it's actually trying to connect to Citizen's Bank. I have read through this thread & tried over and over again, but it's just not working.
I did sign up for the 'extra-super-secure' Citizens service when I set up the online banking (it wouldn't let me not sign up, and certainly I appreciate any extra security) - could this be the problem? What I don't understand is why some Citizens Bank customers are able to fully integrate their accounts with Mint and some are not.
I really like the services that Mint provides (not to mention the pretty colors, yes), but I'd also like the Citizens accounts to be my primary checking & savings.

I'm having the exact same issue. Tried to add info, Mint.com reports that the account is being added. No evidence of it being added; no progress bar.
The main problem here is Citizens Bank. They have NEVER played well with aggregators like Mint.com, at least in my experience. I'm literally about to close my accounts due to this issue.
They used to work with Vanguard's, but it's almost always broken now. I've given up waiting. They don't work with Yodlee.
I think they worked with Quicken... if you like that kind of thing. :)

Same here. Trying to add a CCO Mortgage loan account (part of RBS Citizens) and, after carefully filling out name, password and all three password questions it just hangs, telling me that its connecting but doing nothing.
Reading through the multi-year history of this thread seems to indicate that this will never be solved.... pretty much a deal breaker for me if this isn't working! Too bad- looked cool

I know - CB has caused me to abandon several otherwise great aggregators. I think it's a game of cat and mouse, where CB introduces another "security scheme" that breaks the link to the aggregator in a way that is not easy to fix.
This time I've actually opened up a small account at the bank down the street to see if they are more "minty" than CB.

The only service I have been able to use consistantly and successfully with Citizens Bank is Quicken Online. I would prefer to use Mint if possible, however it is mostly useless to me with my main bank (citizens) integration.
At least for the moment, I guess. I tried to add the account (again) just for the heck of it, and somehow the tech stars aligned and everything worked. Anyway, I'm pleased about the whole thing, because I really enjoy the convenience of Mint, and I wasn't looking forward to dealing with a whole new set-up just to be able to see my Citizens information. So thank you, tech stars - what stars you are!

I thought that I had found the solution; answer different security questions in hopes they'd match up with whatever authentication process is there. It worked for a day, then died

I've tried the citizens bank (www.citizensbank.com / www.citizensbankonline.com) and I don't even get a place in which to put verification information. I know I've clicked the right one, and Citizens bank has just done some major online updates recently.
Long thread... They must be troublesome. Like most people, I have the majority of accounts under citizens.

I actually spoke to a few people I know that work at Citizens, and although the major upgrades happened already, they tell me that all the month of August no one, including mint, should plan on solidifying any connection process because they're going to be testing, modifying and locking things down all month, and a process in place today, may not be tomorrow. Until Sept, we are... out of luck!
I know Mint is trying their best, but if they got the same advice I got, they may be waiting off until Sept so they don't have to spend hours creating a process that might not work tomorrow!

My problem account is with Charter One, which is related in some way to Citizens Bank. I got a message from the bank that they were changing their online banking, and Mint hasn't been able to connect since. When the change came, Quicken Online also failed to connect. However, Quicken can now retrieve the information, but Mint still fails.

okay, so it's been a few weeks. Update? how about honest technical answers, as those are appreciated too. "We are having problems authenticating with charter's SSL" or something for example (although I doubt my example is the case).
We aren't looking for blame, but actual info makes people less hostile towards the "well, it's not fixed yet - we'll tell you when we find out" (with no update).
