Can it be changed to "Database (automatic forum marking)"?
I assume right now it's set to Inactivity/Cookie.
This way it will properly keep track of read/unread posts. For instance I logged in before heading to work and now that I'm at work, everything that was previously unread has now been automarked as "read" so I don't know where I was or what I've missed.
Thanks!

Can this please please please be changed?
I had unread threads, which are now lost, just because I logged in earlier today.

I will work on this...just give me a little time....the customer service load is heavy right now & we're working on trying to address that issue first. I am going to make some changes to the forums, including new categories, as soon as I can free some time up.

I think I've got it set now...
I might have to change it if it creates too much of a drag on the database.

Thank you!!
It should be fine on the database. Technically it uses more db resources than the cookie method, but almost all high traffic vbulletin sites use this setting as it's the most useful for users so it should be fine.

Oh...
one of the side effects of changing this setting after having used the board is that most of the threads will suddenly be marked as "new" or "unread" because it's basically starting over.
If you suddenly see everything as a new thread, just select "Mark Forums Read" under "Quick Links" and you'll be all set going forward. Think of it as the "reset" button :)
