View Full Version : Transactions Not Saving

After I edit my transaction categories and click to a different page, once I return to Transactions, the changes I made have disappeared.
It is not saving my categories, renames, or anything.

Here's what would help me:
1. Steps/transactions you recategorized.
2. A screenshot.
3. Browser/OS used.
4. Build information (in the header; reads as phlxxx)
Please feel free to send it to me at feedback@mint.com

I've got the same thing happening. I sent the information via email this morning.
It's not really usable at all for me without being able to change the categories. :(

I think I figured this one out.
Clicking anywhere in the row will highlight the transaction. From there you can hit "Rename" or "Categorize" and it will bring up the dialog for you to perform that action. Hitting save or choosing a category then properly updates the browser to say the new name, but doesn't update the backend.
If you specifically hit the checkbox and then perform the same actions, it gets updated on the backend as well.
It also brings to light an inconsistency... I can select a row by clicking anywhere in it, then click the checkbox in another row and I'll be editing the one with the checkbox, but the first one stays selected. (I can send some screenshots if that's not clear)

Hmmm...I haven't had the issue with my account (IE7 and Win XP). What browser and OS are you using?

I've tried it on Safari 2 (mac), Firefox 2 (mac), and IE6 (XP) (the beauty of an intel mac).
Acts the same way on all of them, if I don't specifically select the checkbox, it doesn't update.

This seems to be working properly now.
Except, interface wise, it's still doesn't make sense that you can select one with a check box, then select another by clicking on the row, but when you hit rename it wants to rename the checkbox one.
It's just inconsistent

I think the UI can be a little confusing, notably for users that may not me as web-savvy as you folks are.

Whoops, sorry, wasn't subscribed to the replies!
I'm using Safari 2.0. Still no luck with the category saving. I'm checking the check box.
Suggestions?

It works for me on OS X 10.4.10 & Safari 2.0.4
Actually works both ways... checking the checkbox or just clicking on the row...

I get the same results, with or without checkbox, using Firefox 1.0.4 on XP, firefox 2.0.0.11 on xubuntu 7.10, and Opera 9.50 Beta 1 on xubuntu 7.10. I've tried with and without making a rule, also.
I'd like to make a budget, and with some 40% of my purchases consistantly coming in as not a catagory, this feature would come in real handy.

Im having this problem as well. Using latest version of firefox, and cookies and junk ARE enabled.
no matter how I edit the category, it will appear saved and the screen text greys out, click somewhere else, and then click back, and it will be like it never changed.
Look; unless there's a hidden SAVE BUTTON when you are finishing changing a category, something else is seriously wrong with the interface.

I'm having this same problem. In the past, when I would visit Mint, my new transactions were already cleaned up and categorized. Now, all new transactions have 'No Category' and the description is the default mess that comes from my bank.
If I try to rename or recategorize transactions they won't stick if I leave the page and come back.
I'm using Firefox 3.0.1 on Mac OS X 10.5.4, but I don't think it's a browser problem as automatic categorization and cleanup is not working at all.
To Damon, not sure what my 'Build' is. When you say it's in the header, do you mean in the page source code? If so, I see a 'ph645.37' in the lines calling up the style sheet.
Hope this gets fixed soon, because without it, Mint.com is virtually useless.
Thanks.

One more comment to add to this discussion.
It seems that all the transactions on or before July 30 are unaffected by this problem. They are automatically categorized and cleaned up, and if I edit the Merchant or Category, it sticks, even after going to another page and coming back.
All transactions on July 31 and after are problematic. I have, somehow, managed to get 3 transactions to hold their edits after that date, but I don't see any pattern.
Hope that helps a little more.
Thanks.

Hello,
I'm having a similar problem with the categories. For the past couple of weeks, Mint no longer even attempts to categorize my credit card purchases. (I've been using the service daily since December so I pretty much know how it works.) I'm using Explorer 6 and 7 depending on the computer I use to access Mint.
Even the most obvious transactions like "ATM Withdrawal suchandsuch branch" are listed as "no category" which means I have to put everything in manually.
Starting today, it's not even saving my manual entries, so I had to put everything in twice.
This lack of categorization is across the board for credit (USBANK) as well as debit (WFB) transactions. Any time estimate for a fix? Thanks!

I have been playing with this a little more and found a way to get changes to the Merchant and Category to stick.
The trick is to *not* select the check box entitled "Apply these changes to XX similar transactions".
If I'm in the screen to edit the Merchant and Category, and select the 'Apply these changes . . .' check box, hit save, once that window disappears the screen is grayed. It never clears up. Then if refresh the page, my edits are lost.
If I don't select the 'Apply these changes . . .' check box, once I hit save and the windows disappears, the screen returns to normal (not grayed) and if I refresh my edits stick.
This still doesn't fix the problem of automatic Merchant cleanup and category assignment, which still seems to be broken.
Hope this info helps.
Thanks.
