Since Cash & ATM is under "No Category", it doesn't appear as an option when creating a budget. I think it is common for people to track how much money they withdraw in Cash.

This is a big missing feature.

I agree. This is quite frustrating. Please, Mint, add a Cash category to the budget.

I wanted to suggest a workaround given that Mint, today, consider cash a transfer. One way that people have used the service is to split and categorize their ATM transactions. For example, a trip to the ATM where $100 was withdrawn could be split into $20 on groceries and $80 on gas (quite realistic these days). By doing this users are able to better track cash spending.

Does this sound like a reasonable work around to you?

While this workaround is reasonable, my husband and I have decided that we don't want to spend the time tracking our cash spending. We buy very little using cash, so it's not worth it to us. However, we do need to see on our budget that the money has been spent. So we would prefer a Cash category in the budget. We can call it something else for now, but we hope you will still work to create a category for Cash. Thanks.

I understand the workaround, but even if I did decide to track where each dollar went I'd still like to see exactly how much I've taken out from ATM withdrawals.

You can currently budget for ATM fees, why not ATM withdrawals?

I also spend very little cash. Here's what I did to solve the same problem you have.

I made a rule that categorized all my cash withdrawals to 'Pets' (we don't have any Pets). Then I can see at a glance that I've spent the money. Also, if I have the time and I know what I spent the cash on, I can go in and split some of those transactions and allocate them accordingly.

Hope this helps.

I did the same. But I Used ATM Fee as the budget line item. I don't pay ATM Fees, so same idea.

Even in quicken we assigned all cash to entertainment. My wife has a habit of taking lots of $100 transactions and I have no idea where that money is going. So we made a rule to alway take out of the entertainment budget.

I have to say that I do a lot of my daily things by cash. Taxi, going out, afternoon coffee ect.

I would really like to track this unless this is really complicated, which I don't understand why. I think getting all my credit card informations and putting that into the system should be more complicated for the developers of this site.

I added a Cash & ATM category to my budget, and it is catching ATM withdrawals, and reflecting them in the budget.

I joined Mint last month and was instantly able to create a budget item for Cash & ATM. Not sure how new this feature is though. Even if some people can't do this, can't you create you own customized budget items? Just create a Withdraws budget.

I agree with Mint on this issue. Cash is another currency medium. Until you spend the cash you cannot catgorize it. At the end of period you should have nothing in cash but in a catagory. Until you spend the cash there is no catagory. When you take cash out of bank it is just a transfer.

In addition to the need for Cash & ATM to be moved out of Uncategorized (a completely useless category that cannot even be reported on), there's a need for more advanced categorization rules, based on spend.

For example, I regularly withdraw $60 from the ATM for Food purchases (Chinatowns never take cards...). I'd like to base a rule for all $60 ATM withdrawals to be categorized as Restaurants, while leaving all other ATM withdrawals as Cash.
