Hello. I use one bank for almost all of my financial needs. While it makes things really simple for using their online banking site it seems to create problems while I am using Mint. For example:

I have $70 that is auto deducted from my checking account every 2 weeks for my car insurance. At around the same time every 2 weeks I have $50 auto deducted from the same account that goes into my IRA. Mint wants to categorize both of these under the same heading. I tried to fix it by setting a rule but when I change one of them and click "apply to similar transactions" it applies it to all of them. I need to know if there is a way to show Mint that I want the $50 every month to go under "Financial and Invest" and the $70 to go under "Auto Insurance." Is there a way to do this by setting additional rules or changing the name of my accounts or anything like this? Any help is much appreciated. Thank you.

Yeah I am having the same problem, except mine puts everything I bought on the same street as the same merchant, even though they have different addresses and descriptions. Its even labeling some merchants as the city I bought them in, so merchants that are across town are coming up as the same merchant. You should be able to "apply to similar transactions" to the unique data of the transaction and not to what mint designates what the same merchant is. Does no one else have this problem? This is happening on my citibank account by the way.

I'm having that same issue. About 5 different stores - which would fall under different categories - all come under the same name (the road name) and I have to split them out manually by Googling the address to see which one belongs to each transaction.

I did email Mint about this, but received a generic and useless reply. Nothing useful yet.

Hi all,
This is poor categorization on our part. The good news is that we can clean it up rather quickly. Can you please send me some examples? I need the bank name and some transaction descriptions (i.e. the raw description, not the mint version).
