a) Login to your Mint account.
b) Click on the “Transactions” tab.
c) Locate the transaction you want to categorize & check the box. Now click on the “categorize” button.
d) A screen will pop open with a variety of popular categories for you to choose from. Click the appropriate category & then scroll down to the save button at the bottom of the screen.
Special note: If you would like that merchant to always be categorized that way, simply check the “always categorize” option above the save button. This will save you categorization time down the road, as all transactions from that merchant will now be put into that category.

I have been able to recategorize transactions in the past but today, I do not see the Category button & nothing happens when I click on a transaction. Is there a problem with the application or am I just missing something?

I am new to the site and have been trying to re-categorize my transactions.
I am able to click on the transaction, then i mark transaction, and click categorize. after this nothing happens. the categorize button is highlighted but no category screen pops up..
I have a few items on my register that were put into the wrong category so i hope to fix them.

What version of browser are you using. I was using firefox for a while and had problems therefore I reverted back to IE. You may want to check the forums about the broser that you use.

When you say categorize button, do you mean the category pull down. I see no save option?

This must be a new bug or a redesign, because now I can't seem to create any category rules. I've done so in the past and it is very helpful. However, now I don't see any category option, all I can do is "edit details" of a transaction, or if I "edit rules" all I can do is edit or delete existing rules: I cannot add to the rules. I've tried both IE and Firefox and get the same issue. This is very frustrating, feel like I must either be blind or there is a bug.

Same here. I have a situation where "Vons", a large grocery chain, is being categorized as "Restaurants" - not good. Yet the mechanism described described above for fixing this is not to be found.
A little help, please!

I don't see the Category button in Firefox 3.09 or Safari 3.2.1 on Mac OS 10.5.6.
Am I missing something too?
These are both supported browsers according to other info on these forums. This is a deal-breaker for me if I cannot update the categorization.

Yes, if you go to the transaction tab and click on the specific transaction you are able to edit the description and category. When you click on the category you will get a list box to choose from.

You can add to the rules only by going into a transaction. Go to the specific transaction and click on Edit Details. Then if you change the description or category on the transaction, a line will appear that will begin to create a rule. Check mark the box in front of the rule after making the changes to the description and category. This will save the rule.

Thanks for the quick response.
I have created a weekly Budget to transfer money from my checking to savings accts, which I called "Transfer to Savings". However, I am unable to make my 'budget bars' (I'm not sure what they are called) to recognize what I've done.
When my bank performs the transfer, my 'budget bar' on the "Overview" page does not move along and show that I am increasing the percentage of my budget.
Is there a way to set this up?
Thank you in advance for your help!

I think I figured it out! I have to go into Transactions and label it how I want, then tell it to always recognize that label.
