View Full Version : Rounding of Account Balances

I have finally got all my accounts entered into Mint, but it appears that balances are rounded. One account has a balance of $107.69 but it shows a balance of $108. Dear God, you are not purposely rounding the balance are you? Tell me I, please, that I am doing something wrong, or this is a preference or something.

I'm experiencing the same rounding issue as well. I've searched everywhere in the tool and haven't been able to find a preference to change this.

In transactions it shows the actual amount, not sure why it's rounding total balances.

I agree - I'm hoping this is a bug and not an intended feature - I'd MUCH rather see exact amounts.

It rounds so it looks prettier I think.

yea, i agree with Eric. I've noticed it starts rounding the numbers on the overview page if the numbers are over about $50. This seems like something they programmed just to cut down on clutter.

The way I see it, there's two possible solutions:
1) Make the amount where it starts rounding higher. (Possibly $100, $500, or $1000).
2) Make this an optional feature so people who don't want it rounded can turn it off.

I personally don't mind that it rounds high numbers on the overview page. Does it really matter that it says 108 when it's really 107.69? The important thing is that the bank has it accurate (and so does the transactions page). After all, the overview page is just meant to give you a general idea of your finances.

I have seen this too and it annoys me. Hopefully it is a setting that is wrong somewhere

I believe it is a design choice. After all, Mint, by design, is very intuitive and has a clean interface (which is why it is so much better than Quicken), so to keep it clean and clear on the home page, they round the info. Like Bryan said, it is an overview. Honestly, how much could it possibly be rounding? It is either "adding" or "removing" at most$0.50 per account, so if you have 3 accounts, the most that could be gained/lost in the overview is $1.50. If you have more accounts than that, chances are that you are well enough off that you won't really care if your overall balance is off by a few dollars on the overview page while it is completely accurate when looking at the details.

has anyone received official word on this? Is there a setting somewhere to turn off rounding when displaying account balances?

I would really like it if there were an option to turn off the rounding feature. With rounding off, I could know the exact amount I need to pay through my bank's electronic bill payment system. As it is now, I either have to add a dollar to the total, to make sure the entire amount is paid, or go to my CC's website to look up the exact amount, which sort of defeats the purpose of Mint. Please give us the option to turn off rounding!

I concur with your post.
