View Full Version : "Sort" anomaly?

Something I've noticed that I think is somewhat unusual is how Mint sorts. From the perspective of a checking account, you have debits (deposits), and credits (checks, ATM withdrawals, etc.). Positive and negative values.

If you sort a list in excel of financial transacations with positive and negative values, the negative numbers are the smallest, and the positive are the largest.

However, Mint seems to sort items as absolute values. For example, a credit card purchase of $250.00 will be shown in the sorted list right next to an entry of -$250.00. Imagine you bought something and returned it for a refund.

Is this what people expect? It would be nice if there were an option of sorting by absolute value or by true positive/negative.

It's nice having the sort the way it is, so I can reconcile payments or refunds. However, sometimes it would be nice to have them the other way. Let me see the largest withdrawals by themselves, the largest deposits, by themselves.

Does this make sense? Curious as to what others think.

I got kinda lost there. Is there another way to explain it?

I think I understand what the poster wants. They want to be able to sort by category, debit, credit, etc.
