Mint is in great need of a public transportation category. I don't even own a car--I rely completely on public transportation. But there's no good place to categorize this.
Likewise, there's no good category for bars. Currently I'm putting these sorts of things under restaurants... but it's a very different thing and I'd like to see it categorized differently.
I second this! I was just going to post that I'd like to see a public transportation category and a bar/nightlife category. :)

I third that! Anyone in a big city is going to find a separation of those categories completely essential to their budget management!

What is the big deal with adding a public transit category anyway? Why have we been waiting more than a year for this? Are Mint employees all car drivers working in some suburb? Do they secretly hate buses and subways? I just don't get it...:(

These will be added in the next release (early October), along with the ability to create your own custom categories. Thanks for your patience!

That's cool about the custom categories, but I'd still like to see budgets based on labels. I know it sounds like it'd amount to the same thing, but it's not...for instance, I'd still like to be able to categorize my Netflix bill as Movies & DVDs, but label it "Netflix" so that I could set that amount as a budget. Otherwise, I would go over budget every time I bought a DVD. I could make a budget that was greater than the amount of the Netflix bill to allow for going to the theater and buying movies, but I'd really like to have a way to account for Netflix being a set amount every month.
Furthermore, I have a large medical bill I'm paying off over several months. Right now it is categorized as "Credit Card Payment", but I can't budget for it as a set expense because obviously I have other credit card payments. I could make a custom category for it, but then it would be as if it were a new transaction every month, not a transfer of funds between accounts as it is categorized now. If I could still categorize it as a credit card payment and yet make a budget for the label "medical bill", that would solve the problem.
If we could make custom categories that were subcategories of existing subcategories (such as Entertainment->Movies & DVDs -> Netflix), that would also solve the problem nicely.
