View Full Version : Save Data from canceled accounts?

I had some trouble recently with a checking account at my bank, and as a result we had to close my old one and open a new one. So I added my new account with my new username and password, but I would like for my old account's data to stay on mint (so I know how much I'm spending on groceries/entertainment/bills now vs. before, on my old account). However, there doesn't seem to be a graceful way to tell mint that it shouldn't update that account any more. Now every time I update all of my accounts mint tells me I need to re-enter my login info or contact my bank.
Can there be an option to keep data on closed accounts, but instruct mint to no longer attempt login on an account?
Sorry if this is an old suggestion, I was unable to find anything using the search or by browsing the FAQ. Keep up the great work, mint is awesome!

You could use the export transactions' feature on the transactions' page. The primary limitation is that it currently doesn't export categories & isn't as robust as some would like (working on it).
Note: Changing the account would still mean the same login, correct? I am reading this as you only changed the account number.

I want to keep my closed credit card account in mint, so it shows in the graphs and things
there should be a way to freeze (turn off updating) the account so i can keep the data in mint, but not have it keep pesting me

For my credit union my login is my member number, which also changed when I changed my account, unfortunately.
And yes, the basic functionality I'd like is what amazonv described. I don't need it to do anything fancy, all I want is for the "can't login, fix this account!" warnings to go away. All of my account data that I want in mint is already in mint, I just want mint to stop bugging me about fixing my account on the account page, and on the lefthand side of the Overview page.

I've moved from California to Idaho, and as such, although I still bank with the same bank, they're two seperate corporations in each state. The problem is I want to keep my account history in mint for my old (soon to be closed) accounts, even if they'll never be updated from here on out. The only way I could figure on doing that is to change my password at the bank level, so mint never removes the accounts, but then it complains that it can't login.
Is there a way to mark an account as closed in mint and keep it's history?
Thanks,
Michael

We need this too -- our credit card was cancelled due to suspected fraud, and now we have a new number/online login, and want to add the new card but keep all the old card's history.
How can we tell Mint to "archive" our old credit card account?

From the accounts tab...on the bank that is in error....click edit. The dialog should allow you to select a status for the account. select 'closed' and the following will happen:
1. Balance will be set to 0. This is because existing balance is typically migrated to the new account.
2. Account will still appear in the account list, and transactions will continue to be included in trends, etc.
3. Mint will stop trying to update the account nightly.
Hope that helps.

I closed my old checking (and savings) account today. I had 2 checking accounts at BofA (a fee one and a free one, I closed the fee one). It never occurred to me that I would lose all the data from that account. It's just gone from Mint. There's no error or anything, it's not listed. All the transactions from that account are gone.
So I had one set of credentials that worked on both accounts. But now just the one account shows up and I've lost *all* the historical transaction records for the previous year. Surely these are still around in the Mint database somewhere? I am so wishing I had been exporting....:(

I recently refinanced a loan and I want my old loan transactions to stay in Mint, but I want the account to be marked as "closed". I saw the suggestion to click the "edit" button in the accounts section and select "closed". However, I can't find a way to do this because the account is listed as being in error and thus it only gives me two options: "Cancel" (to delete the account completely) and "Okay" (to have me re-enter my login information that is no longer valid because the account has been closed). How do I get to a screen where I can mark this account as closed?

I am having similar issues. I closed a Wachovia account and as a result no longer have internet access to the account. Mint seems to be frozen with the remaining balance from the last time it accessed it.
On the account tab for Wachovia it says "Your accounts here seem to be closed. Click okay to try and resolve" There is no OK button :(
I would like to keep the transactions from this account, just set the balance to zero. I did this once before but I can't seem to find a way to do it now.

I have been having similar issues since ~June 2008. I've sent multiple help request emails with detailed info on what problem I'm having (account is closed and thus get account error when Mint tries to update account on login). The only response I get is generic boilerplate about clicking 'edit' and marking it as closed. If it were that easy I'd have figured it out myself! The 'edit' button does not exist, and that is the bug!
Here's the options I'm given:
- Log in to Mint
- Mint tries to auto update account, it obviously errors because it does not exist.
- 'We could not find your account' error screen gives two buttons, 'Cancel' and 'Try Again'
- Hitting 'Cancel' asks me to delete all my account data -- NO THANKS
- Hitting 'Try Again' takes me to Add an Account -- NOT USEFUL SINCE ACCT DOESN'T EXIST
All we want is for the 'edit' button to appear so we can mark the account as closed. Please oh please??

I wouldn't hold your breath. I've been waiting since October and to top it off I'm still missing transactions which were once there.
I think adding new features to Mint is great but when the core product is flawed what's the point. As a result, I've had to look elsewhere for my budgeting needs. How can I budget here when week's of data going missing each month?
