View Full Version : Modifying Dates?

I really like Mint, but it isn't very useful for me because I cannot change the date of transactions. This is really only an issue at the end of months because my bank doesn't date the transaction when it occurs but rather when it posts. So a transaction on 12/27/07 could show up in Mint as 1/2/08. Some transactions post really fast and some are delayed up to a week (Wells Fargo). It really throws off the budget and organization when my budget is half used on the 2nd of the month because of late-posting transactions.

Any way to do this that I'm not seeing?

Thanks.

Sorry, I don't think there is yet. I could use this as well.

a handful of my transactions from last year seem to ahev pulled in to this year and are listed at the top of the transactions page for the new year. I hope they can fix this, it is really messing me up.

I would appreciate this feature as well.

This might be kind of tricky because our system would only register it when the transaction actually posts/clears. I will mention it at as a possible product improvement.

I am also looking for this feature. It really screws with my budget with I buy something two before before month end only to have it show up on the next month budget.

That has happened to me a couple of time already.

Absolutely ESSENTIAL! Having end-of-month purchases show up the next month is horribly disruptive to budgeting information.

This is my only major complaint/feature request.

This would be great

agreed - would be nice to be able to change the date of transactions. if nothing else be able to toggle which month it belongs to for budgeting purposes.

I also find this to be a problem, especially when writing checks. I consider the money spent as soon as I write a check; however, usually, the check is not cashed immediately and therefore, oftentimes will become part of the following month's spending.

I understand that I would need to wait for the check to post and clear through the bank, but would love to manually change the date or month once it has posted, so that my spending trends are reflected more accurately.

When transactions are downloaded the date does not reflect the year. This causes transactions to be grouped by month incorrectly. I have transactions from Feb 2007 grouped with Feb 2008.

Any solution?

Yes -- this is necessary. Spending trends and budgets are completely useless when my rent check clears at the end of the month instead of the next month. I am surprised this was overlooked... great job w/ everything else, however!

I have been only for 2 days and im absolutely in love with the possibilities of this website. But truly the only downfall i have already noticed is the topic of this thread, the dates of my rent checks. 2 of them fall on the same month and have doubled my budget for rent for that month.

Its hard to gauge a budget when the months can be so accidentally lopsided. Everything else seems to be working out perfectly for what i need.

If we were able to change the date i would definitely recommend this site to all my friends.

thanks for all the hard work so far and i look forward to the progress ahead.

I have to agree with everyone else, two mortgage payments in one month throw everything off. Please add an alternate date field. IT doesn't need to change actual transaction date from bank, just here in mint. give a choice to use actual transaction date and adjusted date. PLEEEEASE.

We will add 'editable dates' the feature list for consideration.

Yes, I went on a last minute shopping spree over the holiday weekend. All my charges showed up in September, even though they were purchased in August. This blows my budget for September 3 days in. Editable date!!! I'd rather have editable dates than any other single improvement. The longer you wait to do this the less useful mint becomes to myself and others.

I agree completely. This should be the single most important improvement that must be made to mint. Without this feature, things like spending trends and setting budgets are rendered nearly useless in the event that transaction dates differ from posted dates.

Here's another problem that might be solved with editable dates: I've been splitting ATM withdrawls as much as possible into what I'm spending the cash on. Problem is, I don't spend the cash all in the same month.

I just started appending the date of the ATM withdrawl split on to the name of the payee, such as 'Kid-who-cuts-Grass 08-26', 'Kid-who-cuts-Grass 09-02'. This is not great, since the 'merchant' is being split up. I suppose I could put the date in a note.

No matter what I do, it doesn't align nicely with reality...I don't pay the kid all at once or on the day I go to the bank!

just want to add my support for this feature. I can't use any of the budgeting or management features without being able to change the dates.

has to be made a feature.

It's the one sore spot mint has for me.

I would like to see two dates on a transaction. the first date is not editable and reflects the actual posting date for the transaction. this is what we see today on the transaction. The second date is a date the user can change to relfect the date the transaction was released but not cleared so that it is posed tot he budget properly.
