FirstMerit www.firstmerit.com
We can't connect right now!
FirstMerit may be down for maintenance
The connection may be too slow
Problems like these are usually resolved in 24 hours.
I have been getting this error all day?

have you previously been able to log in to your First Merit account? I am new and tried to link my account and keep getting the same message since last Friday.

Do you notice if there's a difference on the forms on our site? For example, does your bank require additional information when logging in from a different computer & we're missing fields?

Damon,
I know they store cookies on computers because I had to label home and office, but if you turn off cookies or log on from a different pc it will ask you your 3 security questions, which i enter on the form when trying to set the account up. i emailed the bank and got a generic response from them on the issue of not allowing websites to connect. I can post that here for you..

Dear Sarah,
Thank you for your recent e-mail. We appreciate hearing from you. The FirstMerit’s website is not associated with Mint.com, and with the advanced security features of our website, no other system or program will be able to automatically login or sync with the FirstMerit Online Banking website. However, customers are able to manually download their account transaction detail into such programs as Microsoft Money, Quicken and Quickbooks.
If you would like additional information on FirstMerit’s products or services, please call us at 1.888.554.4362 during the hours listed below.
Thank you for contacting FirstMerit. We look forward to serving your banking needs.
Sincerely,
Kiki

Does the First Merit website allow services such as Mint.com to access our accounts? I tried to enroll my First Merit account at Mint.com, but it is never able to connect with your website. Please advise.

Mint actually connects via Yodlee...so the bank may not be aware of that.
And you're answering the questions on the form correctly?

Damon,
I am logging in with the security questions and answers in the same order as they are on my firstmerit profile. do you guys have the ability to 'take over' computers when troubleshooting? I know ADP does this when I have problems here at work. If you were to see exactly what I was doing and the info on the bank's site it could help figure out why it wont connect.

Taking over the computer wouldn't help (connectivity issues are actually an entirely different beast).
Anything else that the bank requires? If not, I will have to file a bug.

I get the same thing when I try to connect to FirstMerit. It's been happening for a couple of days now. The only thing I can think of is that when I go to their site (firstmerit.com) to log in, after clicking on "Online Banking" the site where you log in is actually firstmeritib.com

Bump.
This is happening for me too. I can confirm that the site is not down as I am able to log in directly to the FirstMerit website. I never bothered to use cookies with them so I have to answer the three questions everytime and can confirm those are correct.

I assume the lack of input from Mint folks means this isn't being fixed? I really would like to use mint but if I can't get my info in it's going to be impossible to use.
Thanks,
Wags

Disclaimer: This may or may not work for you. It's not my fault if it does not as it is only an observation. If you attempt this, you do at your own risk.
Now, it's worked off the bat about 75%. The other 25%, I've changed my login creds for Firstmerit on Mint to not have anything for the three questions let it fail once and add them again.
Login to FirstMerit IB (https://www.firstmeritib.com/)
Create cookie upon login
Open new tab/window, go to mint.com
Let it update FirstMerit account, if fails continue
Remove questions from Mint account for FirstMerit
Let it fail, add in questions.
Should work now, if not wait about 10min and update account.

I have over 20 different accounts and they all work successfully (!) except my First Merit account (which I'm not sure has *ever* connected). I can successfully login via the bank's website. The questions/answers are the same, and I've double/triple checked the user/pass combo. The only thing I noticed is that the firstmerit homepage is at firstmerit.com but when I login, I'm redirected to firstmeritib.com.
