I keep having to "try again" to log-in to ING. This is getting a little bit old...
I have to answer ALL six or seven log-in questions to get the ING to update

These tips *might* help...
ING Direct currently causes the Mint system some problems when some customers try to add try to add an ING account. The information below might help you add the information to your Mint account.
To get ING to possibly work:
Go to www.ingdirect.com (http://www.ingdirect.com/) <http://www.ingdirect.com (http://www.ingdirect.com/)/> and login
Go to the "My Info" tab
Under "Login Options" at the bottom, click "Change"
Look at the answers to your security questions. You need to answer
those questions identically on Mint.
Notes:
Answers may be case sensitive
You should leave the answer to all other security questions blank. Only answer the ones listed at ING | My Info | Login Options

I keep messing around with the security questions etc., but can't seem to log in. Is this on the fix list?

Pretty much all customers have luck adding the account based on those tips. Are you following them exactly?

The questions listed are different than the current ING questions. http://forums.mint.com/showthread.php?t=3525&highlight=ING+Direct has a post that lists all of the current ING questions.
I also cannot login to my ING account - it was fine (but the balances weren't being updated) and then today I went to update and it redirected me to the screen to reenter the login information and I went back to my ING account to get the questions and they were different.

It appears that ING Direct has changed its security questions, so they no longer match with the security questions needed to add an account.
can this be resolved?

I submitted a bug ticket to Mint and they told me that their provider (who handles all of their login stuff) is working on the problem and that I should keep an eye on these forums (presumably this one) for updates.
I have my ING account set up with the old questions, using 5 out of the 10 possible questions. I confirmed the questions and responses with ING, and left the rest of the items blank as instructed above, and still no luck logging in (I've also tried it with all the questions answered, just in case, and that didn't work either). So, it seems there is something wrong with the ING connection besides just the new questions. Is this being checked into? I've been trying to connect for several days at various times in the day.

I just signed up for a mint.com account two days ago and I can't get ING to work either. I have no problems logging into my account at ingdirect.com, just can't login via mint. My girlfriend who turned me on to mint is also having the same issue.

This is happening to me too. I called ING, they said they had changed the security questions about a month ago. I guess it's possible Mint.com just hasn't updated what to look for in the security questions? Either way, that's where I spend most of my money, and I really wish I could get that information here...

same problem for me, i've contact Mint with the update below but there is no ETA on when this will be fixed....
my troubles with logging into my ING DIRECT Bank account are:
The security questions listed on Mint still do not match the options provided by ING DIRET Bank. The ING DIRECT Banks question options are:
1. In what city was your mother born?
2. What is the name of your mother's mother?
3. What is the first name of your oldest neice?
4. In what city was your father born?
5. What is the name of your fathers mother?
6. What is your mother's middle name?
7. In what city was your first job located?
8. What is the name of your father's father?
9. What is the first name of your oldest nephew?
10. What is your father's middle name?
These do not match at all with the options provided by Mint under the ING DIRECT Bank section. On Mint, under ING DIRECT Investments, there are only 2 questions that match:
4. In what city was your father born?
8. What is the name of your father's father?
I tried to log in with these 2 matches, just to see if it would work, even though I'm sure that I have a ING DIRECT Bank acct. It did not work.
So Mint needs to update their fields with the ING questions, otherwise it appears almost no ING users can log in via Mint.

Don't lie, there is no way that mint is actively working to fix the problem. How could it take over a month to change the mint security questions. Lol, what a joke. Tons of people use ING. I for one will have to find a new site to manage my money.

Totally agree. I'd really like to use mint, but they can't even get the stupid questions updated. I'm getting sick of checking back every few days. I doubt the fact that i went through the effort of registering a forum account to post this even matters. It's completely unacceptable to be taking this long.

I signed up for the forum just for this reason as well. It is sad because I love mint, but there is no point in using it if I cannot use my ING account. It isn't like ING is some rare bank account. It is one of the more popular and well known online banks.

The biggest issue? No Information! An update once per week would only take about 20 minutes. Thanks!

My time is worth more than this. I signed up for a 60-day free trial of Quicken Online http://quicken.intuit.com and after that it's $2.99 / month. Waiting for bug fixes from a free SaaS vendor isn't worth $30/year, I'll spend more than that in Tylenol to get rid of the headache.

One thing I noticed about the current security questions at ING is that they're the same ones being used at ezcardinfo.com. Exactly the same.
Is it possible that ING and other financial services use the same infrastructure company behind the scenes and that service has done some changes?
Just an observation.

I am dealing with the same issue. Luckily, I don't have a ton of assets at ING and the account is new.
I did notice that the Mint security questions for the ING - Investments login are identical to the ING - Direct questions that we need. I tried adding an ING - Investments account to see if it would add my ING savings accounts, but no luck.
Just thought I'd point that out.

Is the issue really the security questions, or the fact that your login PIN is not directly entered in when logging in on ING's website? You have to either click the digital keypad or type in the letters that correspond, which change randomly each time you login.

Just received this email from Mint (Jim Villanueva):
...Note: It looks like the API issue should be resolved this Thursday (late at night). This should mean that the forms will finally update with the new questions that are required at ING now. This fix should hopefully resolve some of the other outstanding incorrect form issues as well (with any luck).
ING Direct currently causes the Mint system some problems when some customers try to add try to add an ING account. The information below might help you add the information to your Mint account....

Hi Everyone -
Figured it out after one hour of trial and error.
If you have ing direct (orange savings), it'll keep saying error, wrong username/pw.
These are the steps I tried to finally get it to work:
1. I logged into my ing account > my info > edit login options
a) entered all 10 security questions and answers
b) "clear all registered computers" at the bottom
2. ing > my info > edit privacy info
a) share my info w/ ing and partners
3) entered my "customer id" (not account number) and pin into mint.com new account add
4) answered all 10 security questions, in the order that i answered within ing > my info > edit login options
Voila! finally, it worked.
I think it's the clearing all registered computers part that did the trick; hope this helps...

I've been able to log into my ing account through Mint just fine lately (I get past the "authenticating" status)... that's something.
But then it just hangs on the "downloading transactions" status, and I invariably get the "This seems to be taking too long. Trying again should do the trick" message. Well, trying again never seems to do the trick.
As always, I can log in and view my balance on the ING site just fine.
Anyone been having this isue?
Update: Ugh, after about six attempts at downloading, now it's telling me my login and password failed. Which means I have to re-enter everything again, even though I know it's already correct. Good times.

I notice it still doesn't work.
Its funny i signed up for Mint a year ago and the ING part and not being able to manually alter categories and i wanted a cash category as well i could do manually.
Was the #1 reason i stayed away. Now that they have the iphone app i was going to revisit it.
Notice ing STILL doesnt work.
I will say what i find VERY interesting is Mint blaming it on the "provider". If memory serves the provider they use is yodlee or whomever they use. and yodlee's money center (https://moneycenter.yodlee.com/) while a horrible looking app DOES WORK WITH ING. And has consistently. It's actually a much better app in many ways just not as pretty.

Thanks this worked out perfectly after I was having trouble trying to add my ING accounts and it worked perfectly but I had to first add my five questions since I hadn't added them before.
After you add them, then follow the instructions above since the ING site will re-order your questions and the order you enter them into Mint counts too.

Okay, so I deleted my ING Direct Account off my mint profile...because it was originally messing up. Now I recreated it and ran into the same issues. I fixed this by doing the following:
My Info, change security questions. There is a link that says "Add more security questions" Click on that button.
Make sure all 10 questions are answered and in the same order on the mint website.
Now mine works again. So I went from that authentication "Fix it" error to working again!

I'm so close, but one of the questions I am required to answer on ING has 6 options, and NONE of them are the security questions on mint. Can you guys please add these? They are:
1) What was the name of your childhood best friend?
2) What color was your first vehicle?
3) What was your childhood nickname?
4) What school did you attend for sixth grade?
5) What was the make (Chevy, Ford, Honda, etc) of your first vehicle?
6) Where did you go on your honeymoon?
I had Mint/ING working for about a day and it was fantastic. I hope they can get this resolved...

Mint has these 4 already. The wording might be slightly different so you might want to just go thru and update them all:
What is your mother's middle name?
What year did you graduate High School?
In what town was your first job?
What year was your father born?
Please add to Mint these other questions:
What was your childhood nickname?
What school did you attend for sixth grade?
What was the first name of your childhood best friend?
Where did you go on your honeymoon?
What color was your first vehicle?
What was the make (Chevy, Ford, Honda, etc) of your first vehicle?
I've spent hours on this already. Please Please help us!

I would think if Mint were serious about staying in business they would fix issues like this. The types of customer that would use Mint are also the type that would have an online savings account at a bank like ING. To have a connection problem to ING for soooooo long is very poor customer service and makes them look like they either don't know what they're doing or don't care. Not good.

And yet if I cannot add an ING account I will be forced to use another product. This thread has been viewed > twenty thousand times. I would think that warrants a response from mint.

ING Direct only works/updates outside of 9am - 6pm (eastern time I think).
It never updates when I check between 9am and 6pm but works like a charm before 9am and after 6pm.

Hey guys,
After watching this thing for the past couple of weeks, i have found that it only works on the weekends. Sat & Sunday. It always works like a charm for me on those days. As soon as monday rolls around... "Temporary Connection Issues".
Hey Mint.com,
I think you might want to just let people know that the ING is limited to updates on the weekend or have a chat with ING about that. People are getting frustrated and the more info they have the easier things are on them. We love the mint service and want to continue using it.

I had it working at one point, but not now. I went and changed all my questions on ING (5 of them) and everything on Mint matches exactly, but still nothing.
You'd think that with ING's popularity, Mint would want to get this fixed (actually I can't imagine any other issue that could possibly be more important), but I guess they are happy to lose their customers.
I'm close to forgetting about Mint. It's a shame, really, because I do really like many other features of it.

I have the exact same problem.
I will login, it won't connect to ING.
Then the next day, all of a sudden it has updated overnight (sometimes, not all the time).
It hasn't updated in 4 days for me now, and I just tried deleting and readding 3 times.
I have FIVE accounts through ING, one of which is my primary checking.
Come on folks at Mint - GET THIS FIXED PLEASE OR I WILL FIND SOMETHING ELSE TO USE.

Anyone notice now, that when you go to fill in the info to connect to ING, there are no longer 10 question / answer fields? Question #1: is followed by Answer #3: ....
This is seriously annoying.
Verified to be the case in both IE and FFX.

I saw that as well. I have no idea how to add answers now.
I wonder if this is a problem with Yodlee (ie. something Mint can't fix) or if they're just being slow about offering a fix or not.
It's not a deal breaker for me - they'll likely fix it eventually - but it'd be nice if I could see my savings in Mint.
On this, though: Has anyone had any success with the out of order questions? I don't want to spend hours experimenting with this to see if I can trick it into working, but having the questions/answers mismatched and all doesn't bode well for ING. Anybody?

Can we can an update on this problem and is anything being done?

I think there are probably two issues at hand.
First, ING keeps changing their system. STOP IT ING! Second, the challenge questions aren't entered properly.
For example, my 10th question on ING is "What is the middle name of your oldest brother". That's my only option, I can choose no other option. Mint doesn't even show this question for me. I can get "What is the middle name of your oldest sister?" Maybe it was a different question or maybe it was entered wrong?

Mine successfully connected today.
It didn't work until after 6 pm (that time period people have waxed poetic about).
I only have 5 security questions, and I put them in in the exact same order.
mint's been a little flaky of late service-wise, but that may also be my spectacularly awful cable connection. ING worked though.

Hi Minters,
The form issue (Question 1/Answer 3) was around for about 40 hours and was resolved just a few hours ago. Sorry about that.
We highly recommend only attempting to add or update ING accounts *before* 9am EDT or *after* 6pm EDT. ING doesn't play well during those hours for third parties.
Also, we are working on a more streamlined approach for ING that we hope to have implemented soon. Right now, their dynamic multi-factor authentication is a real challenge and one of the reasons ING and Mint.com are like "oil and water" a user so eloquently states in an above post. Believe me, I want this resolved as much as anyone. Thanks for your patience.
So, the two take-aways...
1) Make sure your challenge questions and answers match up exactly like they do in ING
2) Don't try to add or update between 9am EDT and 6pm EDT. Not the best user experience and certainly not Minty but we're working on it.

Still having major problems also. It always says "temporary issue". I really wish it didn't say that because it has been this way for a long time. It usually updates every 1-2 days and I was use to that, but it has been about 4 days now. I know, I'm just beating a dead horse. :(

Awesome! I did all of the security questions on ING Direct carefully and then matched it all on MINT and then waited until after 6 PM and it all worked very well!
I can live with a 1-time per day update for ING. It would be nice if I could tell Mint to do an update at something like 6 am each morning though.
Thanks again!
Hmmm..... I am looking foward to a once a day update but this will be impossible as I have a mismatch in my security questions between ING Direct and Mind.
Key issue: 'middle name oldest brother' vs 'middle name olders sister'. I guess I have to wait until Mint creates this option in its drop down menu?

I'm in the same boat as y'all are... No ING for a month here, which sucks because it really screws up the picture for the rest of my finances. :( The number of times I've had to re-enter the secret question answers on mint.com is only surpassed by the number of times I've been annoyed at ING that they make you re-enter your questions and answers each time, rather than updating or making sure they're all still good. Argh!

I gotta say, I've had ING as a bank (savings, mostly) for 4+ years and it's clear they really stink as far as these things go.
I recently switched to FNBO Direct and gotta say I love their website, it's awesome! and no 7 days waiting for my money to transfer. it was instantaneous, even the first time.
I still have my ING account, but barely touch it. and the "no updates" thing is super annoying on here.

FYI, for anyone having the issue with a question not matching up, you simply leave that question out on ING and blank on Mint. Only select five (5) questions on ING that you can answer and match (in the same order) on Mint. And do these changes after 6pm PST and you should be set.
Also (important) on ING make sure you select the "CHANGE" button right next to the question answers before you select "DONE" at the bottom. This will lock the questions in order and keep all of the fields populated for viewing whenever you return.

I was experiencing problems with ING not updating, so I just did the following:
Opened ING and Mint:
Used the following questions:
Color of first car.
Name of first pet.
Oldest brother's middle name.
Year you graduated high school.
Year your mother was born.
It seemed to me that the wording of these questions matched exactly between Mint and ING, so I chose them. Made sure to press Change in ING.
It seems to work fine, but I will update if it again starts to have problems.

We know it is frustrating. We are actively working on improving this multi-factor authentication challenge that such online banking sites like ING present. Unfortunately it will be several weeks before this is rolled out. At this time I don't know if we'll ever be able to get around the time of day block (9am-6pm Eastern Time), but the update experience out of that time will significantly improve. My ING direct savings account has 10 challenge questions for which I have the same answer.
ING's challenge question: What IS your high school mascot?
Mint's challenge question: What WAS your high school mascot?
I don't think it should matter since my answers on both sites are the same, yet I cannot connect. In fact the errors i get have nothing to do with challenge questions. they are always "Temoprary issues connecting" "User id and password incorrect"

Newbie here, heard Mint was fantastic, but I am not feeling the love. My ING has not updated in over 24 hours, I know the account is set up correctly, it retrieved the ING transactions at one time and I haven't changed my security questions I keep hitting refresh and nothing. How long is "temporary"? Also, my TIAA CREF is in the same limbo, it uploaded transactions and account info last week, but for the past 48 hours, nothing. Very disappointing experience.

I'm not sure whether this has been mentioned (I didn't bother to read back) but I was having the same exact problem with my ING Direct account. That is, until I read the answer to the second question on this page carefully: https://wwws.mint.com/contact.event. Particularly this part:
"For some financial institutions, the questions and answers need to be in the exact same order as they are listed on your banking site."
I had not in fact been putting them in the same exact order. As soon as I did, INGDirect was fixed and I haven't had a problem since.

UPDATE: Oh! One other thing. At one point in the beginning of the process, I kept re-entering the security questions on ING Direct to make sure I had the right Q&As. I was frustrated that ING Direct didn't SHOW you what you had previously chosen. Then I realized that their UI geniuses put submit buttons next to each of the sections on that page and that they were NOT all the same. Once I clicked the Submit button next to the security questions, they persisted. It was later after that I found out about the ordering...

I have to say, as a first time poster and potential new user it is discomforting to see a thread dating back to 2007 detailing an issue that is still unresolved.
Granted I am judging and jumping to conclusions based on what little I have seen... I would suspect Mint has managed to get ING working over this 2 year period for times until it is broken again...
So please tell me Mint, Why should I give you a chance with all of the account problems people are having?

Mine finally updated this morning. I'm sure the problem has to do with ING randomizing its questions. Even if you make the questions and answers on both sites match in correct order, the next time you go into ING the order is completely different. I'm sure this is done on purpose to make it very hard for third parties to verify.
I'm thinking the times it does actually update are the rare times when the randomized order on ING matches the static order on Mint.

I spoke with a customer service person who confirmed that they were actively denying all aggregators. I calmly and politely let them know that I will cancel my INGDirect account and stop recommending them to others if they can't figure out a way to work with Mint. I recommend that others with trouble do the same as soon as possible, just to signal to INGDirect that we like them, but we like Mint more.
I mean all that's required is access to transactions, not access to the whole system. In fact it is ING (and the other banks) who make Mint have to impersonate us to get this information. I'd far prefer a way to authorize Mint (and others) to get my transaction information than I would share my login information. Why can't they make that available through a separate username and authcode that we give to Mint. It's not rocket science.

I was able to get my ING account working again by following the above instructions. I only answered the first 5 questions. After you've selected your answers...click on "Change" to the right of the answers on the ING security page. This was where I was screwing up. Hi ING Mint users,
ING continues to cause problems for third party aggregators. Along with the weekday blackouts there is also the dynamic multi-factor authentication challenge. While we have no control over their blocking of Mint during weekday hours, we are working to make both adding and refreshing ING data less painful for you. We're still several weeks out from going live with the improvements but please hang in there until early August, our current date for improvements with ING and other dynamic MFA sites that we support.

Does it only work during non-working hours? Like, after 5pm or something like that.
I understand the need for security but if other banks can allow it why not ING? Treasury Direct has a more rigorous authentication system and it works just fine. I hope Mint and ING can reach some sort of agreement like, access during evening hours or once a day or something like that.

It does kinda undermine the purpose of Mint if these new security measures keep blocking major accounts, like INGDirect and JP Morgan retirement.

I've checked your Mint account information through our database tools I believe that your issue with ING has been resolved as it is already added to your Mint account.
I've just confirmed from ING that they are actively blocking Mint access to ING data. It may work now and then, the support person told me, but that is a fluke. ING means to have Mint not able to access ING. They told me to try MSMoney or Quicken. I have more details on this thread (http://forums.mint.com/showthread.php?t=8309).

I like my ING Direct accounts, but have a terrible time tracking spending and reserve funds so I use Mint.com. It's a fantastic free service and allows me to view my spending and savings on a public computer without risking true access to my real money. I chose ING Direct because of automated savings plans and great rates, but am having to reconsider due to the inability to see my balances via Mint.com during the day. Every other bank I have had works beautifully with Mint.com and I will have to consider switching back if you guys continue to make it difficult for me to view my balances on Mint.com.

Our data partner is actively engaging with ING for a solution. Our only suggestion is to try outside of normal business hours... in the evening and on the weekend. Far from ideal but ING continues to block intermittenly.

4 days with no ability to update here. :(
I hadn't been able to update all week, but then today (Sunday), it seems to have worked. I guess "intermittent" is better than nothing at all, but still very frustrating. Fortunately for me it's not my primary bank.

My account only updated this Sunday after trying different times all week long (6am, 9am, 11,am, 2pm, 5pm, 9pm). Yes ING Direct is being a pain, but Mint doesn't have any way of having the account update automatically without logging in.
Mint Notifications are completely useless because they only happen after you have logged in and updated.

According to an Interview on the Website Consumerism Commentary with ING Direct COO... they are coming out with an 'Aggregator PIN' to be able to access just the transactional information only 'before the end of this year'.

Howdy ING Minters,
We have made significant improvement with instant refreshes to ING Direct, also known as a hard refresh when you log in to Mint.com, any time of day. However, we are only running nightly refreshes for ING Direct Bank once every five nights. So, if you log in to Mint.com fairly regularly you should see more frequent data updates. However, if you go more than a day but less than five without logging in, you may have data update delays from ING Direct and discrepancies with your ING Direct transactions on your banking site. Also, your alerts from Mint.com may not be 100% accurate.
We still have issues with Multi-Factor Authentication with ING Direct and we plan on having the fix for this very, very soon. This means you may still have to input all security questions, in exact order as they appear on ingdirect.com , for a refresh to occur.
While ING is still blocking third parties, we are doing our best to work around it. ING has also stated they are working on viable third party solution that works for them sometime at the end of 2009. We look forward to this as much as anyone. Thanks for your patience while we continue to improve the data refresh experience for ING Direct and thanks for using Mint.com!!!

I've been having trouble for a while now... I'm starting to worry that I'll miss out on some of the data in my ING accounts. If connectivity is ever restored, will Mint download as much history as necessary, or just the standard 30 days? This could leave gaps in my account history.
This is all yet another reason a manual upload or data import would be nice... Then I could bring my data in while ING figures out how to support Mint.

Hey folks. While mint probably has some responsibility here, I think the primary cause of the mess is with ING. Like others I've called ING to complain and have received the "we don't work with third party aggregators" line.
The only way they'll change their minds is if people start to leave as a result. Call or email ING and let them know how unhappy you are.

I have several accounts on Mint and ING is definitely the worse. It is the bank account we actively use and I am willing to close it if it continues to have problems updating.

ING was working fine for me until last week. Now my account hasn't updated in 6 days! What has changed? Anything I can do to try to get it to update?
By the way, as far as contacting ING, you can use sales@ingdirect.com and someone will contact you back. Also, if you have the "grade us" survey link on your account page, take that and give them a 6 or less and write your complaint in (I think it disappears for a while after you've taken it). I know the measurement they are taking and that score will get their attention.

ING Direct has always been a pain, ebbing and flowing. But lately I've wondered what Mint is doing. ING always had the questions, had to have them in order, etc. But lately when I had an issue I found that the questions were no longer part of Mint's bank information profile.
And since that omission I've no longer been able to login to ING Direct. There seems a pretty direct correlation - no five questions in the Mint bank information screens for ING Direct and then no success in logging into ING.
What's going on Mint? Just a month ago it was noted that improvements were coming but that questions would still be there - the five that needed to be in order from ING. Now they are gone. Why? And is that related to my inability to login?

Here is a response I received from ING regarding Mint.
I understand that you recently had an issue trying to connect to our website using Mint.com. This service is commonly referred to as an account aggregator. While this service may have worked in the past, most users are finding that their aggregator does not work with our New Sign In Process.
The security of your information is very important to us. Once your personal information leaves ING DIRECT, we have no control over your information or how it is used by third parties. Because we have no way of monitoring how account aggregators address security, privacy or the use of cookies we are unable to support the use of these services.
To best protect your personal information and your funds, we recommend that you do not share your personal information (including your Customer Number and PIN) with any third party.
Howdy ING Minters,

Since this issue is on going, can we please add a feature, just like you can do for a home value, to allow changing the current balance on a credit card and/or bank?
That way I could still login to ING myself, look at my balance, and update MINT so I can see where I am on cash-debt ratio.
Granted, transactions will not be downloaded (why can't we add manual transactions anyway?) but it will make it easy to look at your current cash holdings at least until this issue is fixed.

I suspect that this is not merely a technical matter at this stage. I wonder if ING has informed mint.com that they are violating terms of use with the way they access ing systems on behalf of the customer.
I can live without the access for a couple of months if ing is indeed developing a read-only interface. And in fact, I would prefer that a read-only interface were available with different authentication than the standard customer web site authentication.
I too will switch from ing if a good solution is not forthcoming. What concerns me most is the lack of insight into the process and what is going on. I think that ing and/or mint.com should provide up to date, clear, and comprehensive information regarding what is going on. This should include a timeline. I would hate to wait for three months and still be in the same situation.

This is getting VERY tiring. What good is Mint unless I have my transactions updated daily? My budget is useless if my primary checking account transactions are not available. All my other accounts,(secondary Chase checking and investment accounts) have no troubles with Mint, why does ING. ING Allpont ATM network is bogus so if it wasn't such a hassle I would think about swapping my checking accounts. Just work damnit!!

I just spent 17 minutes talking to a very polite ING support person about this issue and here are a couple of things they told me:
1) Their policy is to block all financial aggregators
2) Sometimes an aggregator request will get past their blocking software, usually when the account is first opened.
3) This policy was officially adopted in March
4) They currently do not have any plans to change this policy
5) If enough people contact them either through the phone or the help area on the website, they will see it as an important issue.
This person told me that I was the first person to call her about it. Let's flood ING with requests that this policy be changed. Their stance is that they are protecting our data. The key word there is OUR data. Ask them to create an option that allows individual accounts to indicate that they wish to allow aggregators. That keeps the protections in place for the masses, and allows us to use our data the way we want. Remember to be polite and to the point. The phone number to call is (888) 464-0727.
Yodlee works fine. Sounds like Buxfer works fine. So is this really an ING problem?

I just did the fix and re-enter my info and it's working for me as well. That's not a long term solution though. ING's stated policy is to block all 3rd party aggregators. The reason it works sometimes is that their blocking is not good enough, or the aggregators are better at spoofing real users. The only way to make this more reliable is to get them to change their policy. In the meantime, I'm going to look at Alliant, thanks for the tip.

I just called ING to get some info about closing my account because I still cannot get my savings account information to update.
Apparently they are very aware of the situation as the CSR asked me, "what is it that you guys like about Mint.com so much?" I told them the standard line about being able to see all of our accounts in one spot and he immediately started to bash Mint because he was convinced Mint was going to be hacked and all of my passwords would be for the world to see!
He then said that ING or B of A, etc., are safer because if they were hacked only 1(!) password would be lost. I explained to him that Mint.com is perfectly reputable (just as much as ING) but he wouldn't have any of it. Apparently losing *some* of my money to "hacking" via ING is better than losing all of money via Mint.com.
Wow....I closed the account.

I don't understand how an entire company could be that unaware of the value of something like Mint or Quicken or Wesabe. It's not like there are only a couple hundred of us using it. I think I'll be switching to Alliant from ING. Too bad. There were a lot of things I liked about ING.

To whom it may concern,
Hello! My name is <redacted>. I have been a customer of yours for two years. I love your service -- you're the best online bank around and I have had zero problems with my account until recently.
My problem is that you are, or seem to be, blocking interoperability with Mint.com. Now, I understand the risks of allowing Mint access to my account and I accept those risks. Do you, as a company, plan to continue blocking Mint indefinitely? Or do you plan to allow access in the future.
I like your service, but I will consider taking my assets elsewhere if you do not plan to support Mint in the (near) future.
Thanks,

I really hesitate to make an ING/Mint is working for me post, but it's now been working for me for a couple of weeks. Here is what I did and what I currently do.
1. Log into ING
2. Click My Info
3. Edit Sign In Options
4. Create only 5 Security Questions with the same response to every question. I suggest using good password security for these responses just in case someone tries to request access to your account via the forgotten password function.
4a. If you currently have more than 5, change the extra questions to None and blank out the answer field. You'll notice that you can't have less than 5 security questions.. this is fine.
5. Click Save Questions
6. Click My Info again
7. Edit Privacy Status
8. Click radio button for Share my information with other ING companies and ING DIRECT financial partners.
9. Click Accept
Log into Mint
1. Click the Fix It portion of your ING account under Your Accounts.
2. Click Edit my Bank Info
3. Input your Customer and Login Pin
4. When I did this, the security questions popped up into this window and I was able to put the new security answers into this field.
At this point, everything worked.
It still doesn't update during normal people hours, but I get up at 4:00am and am usually able to update it at that time. I remember seeing somewhere on this forum what the available hours are, but I haven't been about to find it again. I think it may be 11pm - 7am though.

The way I did it since mint took away the security questions is that I simultaneously logged into ingdirect at the same time it was updating. Make sure you click register this computer for the security questions.
I'm not sure why that works because in my head the authentication would happen from Mint's servers and not mine. Anyways, I just updated it. It was glorious.

5. I followed the directions exactly, mint just won't ask me for my security questions no matter what I do.
ETA: I take it back, when I clicked back to the window it had popped up the security question window! Hooray, I hope this works.

Oh BLAST. I put in the pluralized form of my password when mint asked for it. Now all of my ING accounts have completely disappeared from mint. BAH!!!
Logged out and logged back in and the ING accounts are back.

So I have about a dozen savings accounts with ING. I got very annoyed with the non-updates. Called and emailed ING about the problem and they basically shrugged their shoulders, even after I threatened to leave.
So I go through the huge hassle of opening up accounts at Ally and moving all my money over there. I'm not kidding, the day after I moved all my money over to Ally, ING began updating and has updated every day since then, regardless of the time of day.
It's been working about a week for me now. It will be interesting to see if it continues. I wonder if it is a fluke or if enough people complained that ING opened the pipeline back up.

Mine still wasn't working until 4 days ago when I implemented Shibby's workaround, then it worked immediately.

I think it may be 11pm - 7am though.
yeah, not working for me. 6 weeks or so now ....

Me neither, i tried the supposedly working thing above (which sounds like voodoo to me) and it did nothing..
Mint never asks me the security questions after doing 'fix it' and putting the login/pin in there.

I don't get it, yodlee is updating my ING accounts. It's an ugly interface compared to mint, but it may have to do. My ING accounts here update about once a week if I'm lucky. Every so often I'll have a week where it works and I forget about these issues, but most of my accounts are with ING so this is a big issue... :(

I figured it out.
Follow shibby's instructions BUT:
Instead of answering only 5 questions, answer all 10 questions. You should probably answer all of them with the same answer. The reason? to avoid the whole "in-order" questions thing.
I also did the "unregister all computers" in the sign in options.
When I did this, mint finally asked me for "answers" to my questions. Once I answered correctly, it refreshed!!!!
thank god it's working now.

It worked! Answering all 10 questions with the same answer triggered Mint to re ask the questions. Thanks everyone for the advice!

Yeah, it doesn't do anything for either. This is getting very frustrating Mint! There has to be something you can do! Fire up random Amazon EC2 instances to check accounts so you get different IP addresses every time or something like that :-)

Shibby's advice worked, but as my ING accounts haven't updated since early September, Mint only downloaded my transactions for October, so I'm still missing a month's worth of transactions. :(

I've been having the same issue for weeks where I entered my login and pin, but never got the security questions. Tonight I entered my user name in all CAPS and it came back and asked me 2 security questions which after answering it actually updated!
Worth a try I guess.

...is it still only working during certain hours. I've tried every trick listed here (including the one above), and tried during all hours of the day/night. I still can't get past the "Enter Saver ID and PIN" screen. No additional questions. I was having sporadic luck until late September, and haven't been able to get in since.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

"Added" a duplicate of my existing ING account (the one that has been frustrating me by not updating) and the NEW account logged-in and imported without a hitch (asked me the two verification questions on the first try). However, it only imported the past 3 weeks worth of transactions. So.... now I have two identical ING accounts in Mint. One has all of my past transactions (up to September), but I can not log in/update. The other, updates just fine, but only has 3 weeks worth of data. None of my log-in information changed, so I can't understand why my original account won't update (or ask me security questions) when I was able to add a new account with no issues. By the way, I added the new account in the middle of the day (~12pm my time). I'm even more frustrated now than I was before!!!

From ING's Facebook page, in response to a user post regarding Mint.com; "We are working on a secure, read-only solution for 3rd party aggregators that should be available around the end of the year. Thanks!".

Yes I've been having the same problem. I did everything in the solution above.
Simple Login and Pin. No security questions.
They need to make it so that we can import our transactions. This way if we get far behind like me, now 3weeks w/o an update we can upload the data from ing's page manually.

For whatever reason, if I just keep putting in my user ID and pin, it eventually refreshes. But it never refreshes in between logins anymore. I have to login to mint to get it to refresh and I have to keep retrying. It also seems to help if I'm logged into ING in another window, but I haven't really tested to verify it's helping versus I'm just going through that same motion each time and it coincidentally works. Pretty frustrated with ING at this point. I feel like they are going to have to come out of the dark ages on this one at some point. Microsoft Money is going away and Mint has been bought by Quicken. Online aggregation is where this is all moving. They have to find a way to support it.

In my case I figured out that I was answering the challenge question (name of first pet) incorrectly. I was using the answer I had logged with a different bank.
So if you can't get connected, one option is to log in directly from a registered computer (that doesn't ask challenge questions), then select the "my info" tab, then to the right of "sign in options" select "edit information" and reset all your challenge questions. You might also want to click "clear all registered computers" under the challenge questions text box and click "unregister". Then go back to Mint and try again. You should then get new challenge questions and hopefully it will work.

oddly enough, I think for me, logging in with yodlee is somehow fixing whatever is wrong. I'm going to test a few more times and see if it's consistent. But I tried last night, and could not get it to work. Tonight I tried again, and also tried with yodlee. The first few tries on Mint, no luck. The first try after Yodlee finished downloading (yodlee is ugly but always works for some reason), Mint miraculously worked.
I guess if I had to I could log in to yodlee just to make Mint function...
I'm unable to add an ING Orange Savings account right now. It's had trouble connecting since yesterday morning. Is anyone else able to add or update from ING right now?

Hi ING Minters,
There is a known issue connecting to ING that started about 18 hours ago. We are actively working to resolution. For whatever reason, ING is blocking access again. We are working on it. Thanks for your patience.

Thanks for the update and I do hope it will get straightened out soon. INGdirect accounts have been a pain for a while now! Every time I contact them, they hide behind the excuse of security and that they're working on a very "innovative way to aggregate in a secure fashion". Not sure what they mean by the latter.

Called INGdirect customer service again and they seem pretty firm on their "We have security concerns regarding mint.com and don't support it" position.
Mint: Any comments on that? Should we anticipate INGdirect not being supported anymore soon? Please let us know if that is the case so I can look for an alternative to INGdirect (sad though, since their website and feature set totally rocks).

I recently joined the Quickenonline Community and found a post by an ING account holder. He apparently contacted ING about his frustration with downloading his account data to his Quickenonline account. Here is ING's response from his post:
ING sent this response.
We received your email and wanted to follow up with you. Quicken and Microsoft Money are known as account aggregators. We do not support the ability to use an external source to download transactions from our website, since we do not encourage our Customers to share their ING DIRECT sign in information with any third party. We believe this poses a risk to our Customers. As a result, we are unable to offer assistance with any difficulties you are encountering. It is unfortunate this issue may lead you to bank elsewhere.
Sincerely,
Rick Roberts

Sounds like ING doesn't care if we all quit them over this. Jerks!
