These are must haves. By refunds, I mean when you return something and get money put back into your account. Right now, it shows up as Transfer which is isn't.

Have you tried creating labels for these categories? It is our way of letting folks create custom categories right now.

I agree with these as must haves. Although I do see that "Returned Purchases" is now a category under income.

I'd still rather have the formal categories of "Mass Transit" and "Bars/Nightlife" because they're much different than "Travel" and "Restaurants."

Is there a way to have labels automatically applied to transactions?

Wouldn't you want a refund to go under the original category... the positive amount should reduce the negative amount spent on that category.

I don't want my spending on clothes to be $300 if i actually returned half of them... am i crazy here?

Agreed...labels are not the perfect solution. We're looking to see what we can do categorization wise...so suggestions are always welcome in the suggestion forum...

I definitely agree, your "returned purchases" should go back to the category that they came out of. Then your spending for that category will be accurate.

Note: Filing a bug (http://forums.mint.com/showthread.php?t=1540) helps us identify these issues.

I agree 100%. These are very basic, frequent categories for me. I find Mass transit especially problematic. This is a basic monthly expense, there's no way around it; unlike travel or auto or even some utilities, it is not something I can economize on. I ended up sticking it under the general category "Bills and Utilities," which seemed closer than "auto" and much closer than "Travel" (which is essentially entertainment/leisure). Labels don't help items show up in appropriate wedges on trends and they aren't automatic.

These are actually the very two I've been hurting for the most since I started using mint. Both are big expenses for me as I think they are for many people that fit awkwardly in more general categories.
