If I get a credit, return or deposit for a specific category, like Home Furnishings, it seems to be showing as an expense for that category, and not a deduction for the total amount.

I would guess if you have a $1000 charge for a category, and a $500 credit against that category, that your overall amount spent on that category would be $500.

Am I missing something here?

I also have this question. Say I have a charge for "Shopping/Hobbies" of $100. I take back some items and get $50 credit back.

So I could make the transaction as "Income/Returned Purchase", but can I mark it as a credit to the "Shopping/Hobbies category?

This way my trends reflect the correct total in each category and not over-inflating my income.

The system isn't currently capturing credits properly in some cases. My *hope* is that we will devise something that will allow customers to edit an item for a +/-.

Wow.. This is huge....

Not only is it overestimating my expenditures because of returns, but I can't split out my paycheck properly to take advantage of taxes.

Is there any time frame to get this fixed. I can't accurately do a budget if returns count against a category. I'm basically getting double charged in my budget.

Very disappointing. Other items were small but this is huge.

Is there any update for this?

Methinks this is the root cause of everyone's budget totals being hundreds of dollars off.

This is the only sticking point for me at the moment. I can't accurately capture data.

Is this a concern at all to the Mint staff? I haven't seen a reply from anyone with the power to make a change since 10/5. Does anyone else find this strange? How can you accurately keep track of items if your reports don't take into account credits?

I just recently signed up for Mint and I can't figure out how to do this either. I actually have two purchases from a store that were then returned at one time. I want to be able to link these purchases to the return so it doesn't show that I spent money at that store when I actually didn't. Is there any way to do this or is this in the works for the future?

It would be great if we could get a reply on this? Not knowing about problems with the service has caused me to start looking elsewhere.

If you're going to start forums and ask for user input then it makes sense to respond to those requests when people solicit them.

Thank You

Josh

I am having the same problem. Mint, please address this issue!

Same Problem here!!! My solution so far is to add both the expenditure and the return into the "Exclude From Mint" category.

I'm not sure if that is a good solution though!

I wouldn't consider that a solution as you still can't track expenditures then. I've stopped using Mint till they get this fixed. I use Mint to track my spending habits and without this it makes it useless. On top of that, not getting a response to the thread is the same, to me, as saying "we just don't care".

Hello. This issue of credits or collecting rent has been raised since October 2007 and not been resolved. What is going on Mint Guys? This is huge, it screws up your budget, makes your trend charts unusable. And it shows that you are not responding to forum issues. How about an update on this? When are you going to fix this, or do we go Bye Bye?

Hi Josh and Co.

I have been tracking this issue too and found this thread (http://forums.mint.com/showthread.php?t=3567)that has a recent update from a mint employee.

Not very useful but looks like mint is on verge of a fix. Keep your fingers crossed or go use quicken (http://quicken.intuit.com/quicken-online-start.jsp?_requestid=44802)

Thanks, I appreciate the update.. I've already written off Mint until the time comes when they can fix such a silly mistake. If I can't track my finances properly with a tool then there is no sense in me using it.
